Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, the largest Health Science University in the country started in 1996 to ensure quality teaching, training and research in contemporary and Indian systems of medicine. On 1st June 2020 silver jubilee celebrations was inaugurated by Honorable Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi, where a clarion call “Think bigger & do better” was put out. Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara (SDM) Institutes of Ayurveda at Bangalore, Hassan and Udupi a�liated to RGUHS, were established by Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Educational [SDME] Society, Ujire with the vision of providing Ayurveda education, health care service and research to the community. Today, these institutions have reached par excellence in terms of both infrastructure and quality under the leadership of the visionary Padma Vibhushan Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari, Shri KshetraDharmasthala. These institutes o�er Under Graduation, Post-Graduation courses in 15 specialties, Phd. program, short term courses and health care services with state-of-the-art infrastructure. Being completely facilitative institutions for formal learning as well as professional exposure, these institutes enable the enthusiasts to spread the message of Ayurveda on multiple levels. Graduates & specialists produced from theseinstitutions are constantly involved in improving the health status of the nation & globe. SDM College of Ayurveda, Udupi started in the year 1958 has unique features like SDM Centre for Research in Ayurveda and Allied Sciences has a full-�edged faculty carrying out inter disciplinary andtransdisciplinary research. SDM Ayurveda Pharmacy, produces 360 unique Ayurveda formulations designed on fundamental principles of Ayurveda and tailor made to suit the requirements of present-day clinicalpractices. SDM College of Ayurveda and Hospital, Hassan was established in the year 1992 has a uniquewellness unit “Yogakshema Ayurveda Center” that aims at promotion of health. It o�ers authentic Ayurveda care and spirituality with advanced technology. Over 35 research projects funded by various Govt. & NGOs are carried out by the faculty and 1400 research publications are published in peer reviewed National & International journals. The constant demand from the masses and the experience of success by these institutes led to the conception of SDM Institute of Ayurveda & Hospital, Bengaluru established in the year 2010, with newer facilities and infrastructure for easy access to the seekers of Ayurvedahealthcare and education. Prime aim of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala, to promote the health ofindividual and society, the AYUSH health care organizations at Bangalore, Hassan, Udupi,Chimagalore, Mangalore, Ujire & Parika are serving more than 5 lakhs health seekers at out-patient care department and over 60,000 in-patient department annually. Heggadeji’s vision on garnering rich resources from across the globe to facilitate continuouslearning has led to the inception of SHARAYU, a day’s symposium of Sharngadhara Samhita on 8th January 2021 at SDM College of Ayurveda and Hospital, Hassan, Karnataka, as a part of silver jubilee celebrations of RGUHS (Hassan zone), in association with National Sushruta Association (NSA) and Karnataka StateAyurveda Colleges Principal’s Forum. NSA, is a non-commercial and non-pro�t making national body of practicing surgical specialists focusing on education, research and skill development in the �eld of surgical techniques of Ayurveda. Karnataka State Ayurveda Colleges Principal’s Forum constitutes more than 80 colleges of Ayurveda making it a second highest state with Ayurveda colleges. The forum is being led for two decades under the able leadership to concentrate on issues regarding academia, research & healthcare in Ayurveda. Sharngadhara Samhita is an ancient treatise (13th century AD) of Ayurveda with many salient features like de�nitions for Ayurveda Terminology, description of anatomy and physiology, principles, andpractices of Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics, Nadi Vijnana and Therapeutics recorded in 32 chapters into three sections with 2600 verses, Description of mechanism of respiration corroborating t contemporaryunderstanding has been documented in this ancient text. Two commentaries (Deepika and Gudartha Deeepika) are available dating back to 14th and 16th century AD authored by Adhamalla and Kashiram Vaidya respectively. The literature is available in Sanskrit language restricting the access to the global seekers ofAyurveda, led to the English translation of the text and commentary named ‘Sharayu’ byProf. Vd. Shriram S Savrikar, Chairman, Scienti�c Body, PCIM & H, Govt. of India. Inspite of busy schedule, Vd Shriram S Savrikar has meticulously worked on this book for 5 years & has put in his rich experience of academia to bring the core concepts of Sharngadhara Samhita relevant to present era. This unique book would be released on the occasion of the symposium to make it reachable to enthusiasts of Ayurveda.
