Andrea Bocelli,Svetlana Alexievich,Umberto Contarel-lo, Mario Isnenghi and the ‘Associazione Ville Venete,’representedbyitspresident,Alberto Passi,arethewinnersofthisyear’sMasiPrizewhich,on27 September,willcrossthefinishlineforthe33rd time!The‘bestkeptsecret’ofthethree categories of finalists of the Prizes (Civiltà del Vino, Grosso d’Oro Veneziano and Civiltà Veneta)hasbeenrevealedbytheMasiFoun-dation,originatorofthisannualrecognitionofthosepeo-ple who have distinguished themselves in their variousfieldsofdisciplinebecauseoftheircommitmenttocertainuniversalvalues.HeadingupthefivewinnersisAndrea Bocelli,chosenfortheInternational Masi Prize ‘Civiltà del Vino’.NamedbytheNewYorkTimesas“the most popular opera singer of all time”,Bocellirateswineasoneofhisthreegreatpassionsinlifealongwithmusicandhorses.Heandhisbrother,Al-berto,representthethirdgenerationofafamilysteepedinthecultureof‘thesoil’ontheirestateof120hectaresatLajatico,in theheartof theVald’Era regionnearPisa,whereeightofitshectaresaredevotedtovines.SoitisthatBocellihasearnedthisawardbecauseasaresultofhis“pre-eminenceasanartist,coupledwithhisenthusiasmasaproducerandjoy
asaconnoisseur,hehelpstobringwinealive,ashespreadsthewordthat“abottleofwineisabottleofhappiness”.The winner of the 33rd edition of the Masi Prize ‘Grosso d’Oro Veneziano’wasawarded in collaboration with the ‘Corriere della Sera’ Foundation. Journalist and writer, Svetlana Alexievich, originally from the UkraineandnowlivinginBelarus,haschronicledthemostimportanteventsinRussiaduring the secondhalf of the twentieth century.Theseeventshavebeen the inspiration forherbest-knownandinternationallyacclaimedbooks(Theunwomanlyfaceofwar;Zinkyboys;VoicesfromChernobyl)whichhavebeentranslated into numerous languages. Alexievich was nomi-nated to receive theMasiPrize2014because“theextraor-dinary research accomplished by this journalist during theSovietandPost-CommunisterasallowshertogivevoiceintheWesttotheemotionsandunresolveddramaswithinthelivesofordinarypeopleinEasternEuropeansociety.”The2014Masi‘Civiltà Veneta’ PrizebearsthesignaturesofUmberto Contarello,Mario Isnenghi andthe‘Associ-azione Ville Venete’ representedbyAlberto Passi.Padovan by birth, Umberto Contarello is claimed by crit-ics to be ‘one of the greatest scriptwriters in Italian cinema in recent years.’HehasworkedwiththebestItaliandirectors

Ingredients:
• 320 g Vialone Nano rice• 16 Gallipoli prawns• 150 g Andria stracciatella• 1 shallot (scallion)• fish stock (prepared from vegetables, and the heads and shells
from the prawns)• 1 glass “Masianco”• 1/2 lemon• 30 g extra virgin olive oil• fresh ginger• mint• salt• pepper

Preparation:Shelltheprawnsandscampi,takeoffheadsandcleanintes-tinaltract.Chopintosmallpiecesandmarinadewithextravirginoliveoil,thegratedpeelof¼lime,afewdropsoffreshpressedginger,groundblackpepperandsomemint.Gentlyfrythechoppedshallotinextravirginoliveoilwithasprigofmint;pourintherice,toastgentlyandsprinklewithwine.Take themintout.Cook the risottowith regulardosesofboilingstockandseasonwithsaltandpepper.Whenfinished,taketherisottoofftheheatandbeatinthestracciatellaandthelimepeel.Servewiththetartareofprawns,andmintleavesasagarnish.
