T imes NIE is all set to organise its much- awaited event Colour Splash 2019-20, the biggest painting competition of the year, in association with Hyderabad Next Galleria Malls. Colour Splash is an annu- al event which invites students from schools across the city to unleash their creativity and imagination on the canvas without any inhibi- tions. The event aims at encouraging budding artists to showcase their talent on a grand scale. Children not only get a chance to meet with fel- low students from other schools but also expe- rience an atmosphere of healthy competition. Colour Splash also tests the creativity of the par- ticipants to a large level as the theme for the competition is announced on the spot. The com- petition will be held in two categories, Juniors (from classes IV to VII) and Seniors (from class- es VIII to XII). The Junior category will have two sub-categories of Crayons and Watercolours while the Senior category will have the sub-cat- egories of Abstract and Watercolours. Considering the enormous participation of students in previous years, Times NIE Colour Splash is being organised at all four Hyderabad Next Galleria Malls this year on January 21, 23 and 24. TIMES NIE COLOUR SPLASH AND HYDERABAD NEXT GALLERIA MALLS ORGANISE COLOUR SPLASH 2020 C lass VII students present- ed a very entertaining and informative skit recently on the need to stop using plas- tic. The skit "Say No to Plastic" was the brainchild of Physics teacher Alok Ranjan. It narrates how a mother and son go to a kirana store, a tiffin centre and juice stall and find the use of plastic everywhere. At this point, a plastic man, played by Kareem, enters and urges every one to use more and more plas- tic which would help him thrive in the world. People gather in the market to find solutions to get rid of the plastic man. When one suggests that they burn all the plastic, the plastic man de- clares that he would not die but instead pollute the air that would eventually kill all. When another suggests dumping it in ground, the plastic man replies that he would pollute the soil which would make food grain toxic. If thrown in the gutters, the plastic man said he would would block the sewerage caus- ing floods. Finally comes the suggestion that the best way out would be to stop using plastic that would eventually see the end of plastic man. S tudents from class III and IV of Jain Heritage a Cambridge School, Kon- dapur visited the Birla Planetarium recently. It was in- deed a flight through the universe. This dome-shaped planetarium was developed with the techno- logical help from Japan. The place presents its visitors with latest information about the universe and various invention and theo- ries related to it. The students watched a 35- minute long "The Sky Show" which is the most attractive fea- ture of the Planetarium. As the lights dimmed and the journey through the vast universe began, the excitement among the stu- dents was palpable. The skies came alive on the massive dome theatre. The dome theatre is in the form of a semi-circle which displays the movie, explaining dif- ferent types of constellations, planets, galaxies, satel- lites, meteorites, asteroids and fac- tual knowledge in astronomy. The students also watched a 3D movie about underwater crea- tures like whales, sea urchins, snakes, sting ray, their feeding habits and their dependency on each other. The trip proved to be an enjoyable learning experience for the students. Journey through the universe Anunidhi Sharma, NIE Coordinator, Jain Heritage a Cambridge School Kondapur O n the occasion of the birth anniver- sary of Sir Isaac Newton, one of the most gifted scientists of all time, the student mem- bers of the Newton House at DRS Interna- tional School focused on the life, achievements and accomplishments of Newton in several fields through a Special As- sembly. The students per- formed a mime comedy and highlighted inci- dents that led to the var- ious inventions and dis- coveries in his life leav- ing a lasting impression about Newton in the minds of everyone. His contributions to Science and Mathemat- ics such as the very im- portant principles of Physics including laws of gravitation, laws of motion and law of cool- ing and also for develop- ing essential theories of Calculus were presented very well through this creative presentation. They also shared few in- teresting facts about Sir Isaac Newton - the father of modern science. Overall, remember- ing this fascinating fig- ure from the 17th centu- ry, who was the quintes- sential Renaissance man and reflecting on how he revolutionised the un- derstanding of the world was not only informative but also inspirational to one and all. F ables are the ever-green stories handed down for generations to inculcate in people important values and lifeskills. Springfields Inter- national School celebrated 'Eu- phoria', its annual cultural show recently, on the theme ‘Fables for Global Citizenship.’ It was a tableau of fables and songs from countries such as Greece, UK, Italy, Thailand and India presented by the stu- dents of Pre-primary and Pri- mary classes as part of the International School Award project. Every scene and dance de- picted the essential values for being a global citizen and was linked to a Sustainable Devel- opment Goal. Some of the SDGs that were emphasised were 'Life on Land', 'Peace, Jus- tice and Strong Institutions', 'Reduced Inequalities', 'Climate Action', and 'Partnerships for the goals'. The role-play and spright- ly dances enthralled the audi- ence who were overjoyed to see their children perform on the stage. Chief guest Anwar Parvez, a musician, appreci- ated the enthusiasm of the per- formers. The toppers were fe- licitated for their excellence in academics followed by the school report by headmistress Caroline Ross. Fables for Global Citizenship DRS International School M adina High School, Himayatnagar cele- brated its Annual Sports Meet UDAAN 2019-20 at LB Stadium to evoke the spirit of championship among the Madinites under the guidance of secretary K M Arifuddin and director Maria Tabassum. The occasion was graced by A K Khan, former commissioner and advisor to Telangana state on mi- nority affairs, Manendra Rao, sr lecturer, programme director, Govt PG College of Physical Education, grand- master M Jayanth Reddy, Madhavi Bhandari, Pro- Kabaddi commentator, Physical Education Direc- tor, golden girl of Telangana Syeda Falak and Syeda Sal- wa Fatima, first Muslim lady pilot from Telangana, who motivated students to be at their best. They felici- tated the winners of various competitions held on the oc- casion.
