Holy way of sacrifice

How?

Priests offeredsubstitutionary sacrifices

Hebrews 9:22 In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

Genesis 3:21 The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.

Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."

The Ultimate Sacrifice was

anticipated by the very first sacrifice

Genesis 4:3 In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD.

Genesis 4:5 The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor.

Hebrews 11:4 By faith Abel offered God a

better sacrifice than Cain did.

Genesis 4:4 But Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock.

give to get

thank you

Through sacrifice God and mankind met

Genesis 8:20 Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it.

Through sacrifice

God reassured

Noah

Exodus 10:24-25 Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and said, "Go, worship the LORD. Even your women and children may go with you; only leave your flocks and herds behind." But Moses said, "You must allow us to have sacrifices and burnt offerings to present to the LORD our God.

Moses left Egypt in order to sacrifice

Exodus 24:7,8 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, "We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.“ Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and said, "This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words."

The Sinai Covenant was

sealed with blood

Deuteronomy 12:5,7 But you are to seek the place the LORD your God will choose from among all your tribes to put his Name there for his dwelling. To that place you must go. There, in the presence of the LORD your God, you and your families shall eat and shall rejoice in everything you have put your hand to, because the LORD your God has blessed you. Sacrifice was central to

the form of worship established by the LORD

for Israel at Mt. Sinai

Numbers 15:22, 24-25 Now if you unintentionally fail to keep any of these commands the LORD gave and if this is done unintentionally without the community being aware of it, then the whole community is to offer … a burnt (100%) offering as an aroma pleasing to the LORD, along with its prescribed grain offering and drink offering and … a sin offering. The priest is to make atonement for the whole Israelite community, and they will be forgiven…

for "OOPS"

sins

Numbers 15:30,31 But anyone who sins defiantly, (literally “with a high hand”) whether native-born or alien, blasphemes the LORD, and that person must be cut off from his people. Because he has despised the LORD's word and broken his commands, that person must surely be cut off; his guilt remains on him.

Sacrifice was meant for

believers, not for

unbelievers ! ! !

! ! ! never for hard hearts

Sacrifices could be…

PRIVATE

or PUBLIC

Numbers 28:2 Give this command tothe Israelites: See that

you present to me at the appointed time my

offerings made by fire, as an aroma pleasing to me.'

for a sinner desiring forgiveness at any time

for the weakness of the nation at appointed times

!morning & evening! on the sabbath! on the first of the month ! on the pilgrim festivals ! on New Year’s Day ! on the Day of Atonements

Leviticus 4:1,2 Say to the Israelites: When any-

one sins unintentionally and does what is forbidden

in any of the Lord’s commands [THEN] . . .

[sacrifice.]

Leviticus 17:11 For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life.

Numbers 19:2,3,6,9 Tell the Israelites to bring you a red heifer without defect or blemish and that has never been under a yoke. Give it to Eleazar the priest; it is to be taken outside the camp and slaughtered in his presence… The priest is to take some cedar wood, hyssop and scarlet wool and throw them onto the burning heifer… "A man who is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer and put them in a ceremonially clean place outside the camp. They shall be kept by the Israelite community for use in the water of cleansing; it is for purification from sin.

Hebrews 9:13,14 The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

Amos 5:21,22 "I hate, I despise your religious feasts; I cannot stand your assemblies. Though you bring choice fellowship offerings I will have no regard for them. Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them.

Israel's sins robbed sacrifices of their significance and worth

Hebrews 10 8-10 First he said, "Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire… Then he said, "Here I am, I have come to do your will." He sets aside the first to establish the second. And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Psalm 40: 4,7,8 Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust …Sacrifice and offering you did not desire… burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require. Then I said, "Here I am, I have come-- it is written about me in the scroll.

1 Peter 1:1,2 Peter…to God's elect…who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.

Revelation 1:5,6 To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father-- to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

Romans 8:3,4 For what the law was powerless to do …God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us…

Solomon’s Temple

1 Kings 8:22,27 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the whole assembly of Israel, spread out his hands toward heaven and said:. . . "But will God really dwell on earth? The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built!"

John1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory. . .

. . .the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 2:19,21 Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days." . . . But the temple he had spoken of was his body.

耶穌又⼤大聲喊叫,氣就斷了。 忽然,殿裡的幔⼦子從上到下裂為兩半,地也震動,磐⽯石也崩裂 . . . And when Jesus had cried out again

1 Corinthians 6:19,20 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price.

Ephesians 2:21,22 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.

2 Corinthians 6:16 For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.“

1 Peter 2:5,6 You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to

God through Jesus Christ.

Revelation 21:22,23
