MEN’S BIBLE STUDY Gospel of Luke Saturdays at 8:30 am Holiday Inn (860 W Irving Park Rd, Itasca, IL 60143) The Men’s Bible Study on Saturday mornings is studying the Gospel of Luke. The Gospel of Luke is the longest book in the New Testament and the most comprehensive of the four Gospels. It presents the works and teachings of Jesus that are especially important for understanding the way of salvation. Its scope is complete from the birth of Christ to his ascension, its arrangement is orderly, and it appeals to both Jews and Gentiles. Please come join us as we examine the major themes and teachings found in this fascinating book. ADULT BIBLE STUDY Sunday Morning Bible Class June 30th to August 4 Study of the Book of Proverbs Instructor: Pastor McReynolds The wisdom of the Lord underlies and supports the universe. Wisdom is more precious than any worldly wealth. God wants to give it to all. Proverbs seeks to teach us that the foundation of wisdom is the fear of the Lord. Proverbs seeks to teach us wise living through righteousness and justice. In Proverbs God wants us to learn wisdom in family life and how to deal wisely with all people. It is as relevant today as in the days of King Solomon. Please come join us as we learn more and more about the wisdom of the Lord that guides us. SENIOR HIGH BIBLE STUDY Sundays at 9:30 am Instructor: Allyssa Guynes Youth are invited to join us every Sunday morning, from 9:30-10:30 in the youth room upstairs. Each week, students will explore how God is actively at work in their lives as they engage in activities, dig deeper into Scripture, and enjoy

fellowship time with one another. We look forward to saving you a seat!

LIFT (LADIES IN FAITH TOGETHER) Tuesday’s at 9:30am Our women’s Bible Study is reading Mended: Pieces of a Life Made Whole by Angie Smith. We are currently meeting in homes, please contact Gwen Liska to join us! [email protected] 630-935-2297. MONDAY NIGHT SMALL GROUP Instructor: Peggy Schoenfuhs Monday Night Small Group will be taking a break from meeting during the summer months. We enjoyed our time together studying and bonding in God’s word. Monday, September 9th is when we will begin our next study. The first 2 weeks we will focus on the book of Philemon. Then, on the 23rd, we will begin a yet to be determined longer study. If you have suggestions for what you would like to study please contact Peggy Schoenfuhs at 630-422-5098, email: [email protected] or speak to me at church.

Have a Blessed Summer!

1000 Eyeglasses for Ethiopia!

There is a short-term mission trip to Ethiopia that

is scheduled November 1st to the 15th. While there the

mission team will be conducting several eyeglass clinics in

different areas of the country and especially focusing on

two different schools for the deaf (children through young

adult). The team will be bringing 3000 pairs of eyeglasses

for distribution. To support that ministry, St. Luke is

collecting used eyeglasses (in good condition). We have

set a goal of 1000 eyeglasses by October 31st. We accept

adult glasses, children’s glasses, over-the counter reading

glasses, non-prescription sunglasses, etc. – as long as they

are in good condition! (We cannot accept frames or lenses

by themselves.) A box has been placed in the back. And

check out the thermometer on the Mission Board by

Pastor’s office to see our progress!

Please bring in your eyeglasses and encourage

others to do the same. And please pray for Walt

Schoenfuhs and the team as they prepare for this important

mission trip. (P.S. If you have any questions or if you’d

like more information about this mission trip, please

contact Walt at [email protected].)

MINISTRY & SCHOOL NEWS BLESSING OF THE BACKPACKS & ICE CREAM SOCIAL Calling all students and their backpacks!

On Sunday, August 18, as the “school

season” is starting, we would like to offer

a blessing to all of our students,

symbolized in the blessing of their

backpacks. Students should bring their backpacks to

either of the services that day. During the service, we

will ask the students to bring their backpacks to the front

of the church. The backpacks go back and forth to

school filled with all the needed supplies for the students

to carry out the work required of them. As the students

commit themselves to study and learning for another

year, we want to offer a blessing to remind

them that they never carry their backpack

alone as God also goes with them wherever

they go. Following the 10:30am service,

there will be an ice-cream social and the

school will be open for classroom visits.

BACK TO SCHOOL The beginning of the 134th academic year of Saint Luke

Lutheran School will be on Wednesday, August 21, for

Kindergarten through 8th Grade. Preschool and

PreKindergarten will start on Wednesday, August 28.

Two Littles program will start on Wednesday,

September 4.

THE LIVES OF THE TWELVE DISCIPLES

CONFIRMATION CLASSES TO BEGIN IN SEPTEMBER We welcome all 6th - 8th grade students into our

confirmation program. Confirmation is a fundamental

stepping stone for children as they become young adults.

This study of the Christian faith is essential to providing

children with the solid Biblical foundation they need in

life. Confirmation instruction leads students to a

Confirmation Day in their 8th grade year. It’s on that

day, after their review of the basic foundation of the

Christian faith, that the students publicly confess the

faith in which they were baptized. After this statement

of belief the students are welcomed as communicant

members of Saint Luke Church invited to participate in

Holy Communion. Parents please listen for

announcements or information in Connections. First

meeting for parents and youth will be September 5th.

DIG INTO GOD’S WORD AT SUNDAY SCHOOL! Beginning Sunday, September 15th

at 9:15 AM.

"Dig In" is the name of our weekly

Sunday School program where

children have the opportunity to

"dig in" to God's Word! Our goal is

to continually encourage kids in

their growing relationship with Jesus! Each week during

Education Hour, kids will learn Bible stories and key

verses by experiencing their faith woven into their lives

through music, craft projects, games, and more! Every

Sunday, children PK-5th grade will meet at 9:15 AM in

the Music Room (Room 101) before moving with their

teachers to their individual classrooms. Children can then

be picked up outside of their classrooms at 10:15 AM.

Visit our website to register.

CAN YOU READ? If so, try enhancing your worship experience by reading aloud the scripture lessons

at a Sunday service. It’s a quick, easy and fulfilling way to be an active participant in

the weekly praise we bring to our God.

We will set a schedule to your preference of service time and frequency.

Fill out this form and leave it with an usher or contact Pastor McReynolds, the parish

office or Randy Pyde at [email protected]. A sign-up sheet is also posted

outside the Pastor’s office.

P.S. It’s public reading not public speaking!
