CHAPLAIN'S CORNER By Larry Baker

Psalm 6:6-7 (NRSV) - 6: I am weary with my moaning; every night I flood my bed with tears; I drench my couch with my weeping. 7; My eyes waste away because of grief; they grow weak because of all my foes.

Psalm 10: 14a (NRSV) - 14: But you do see! Indeed you note trouble and grief, that you may take it into your hands; the helpless com- mit themselves to you.. . .

Chaplain Ingram and I deal with grief on a regular basis; so do you all. Many times 4 Unit members remind me of the number of deaths we experience as well as the other "losses" we encounter as we age. The Bible too has much

f l say about grief. A common experience is that in our grief God is absent and does not care. Psalm 10 reminds us that is but a passing emotion; God does take note of our grief and does indeed care about us. Perhaps Job is a prime example of grief and mourning. Yet in the end God is there for Job as well.

Thinking of Job reminds us of our part in the ief of others. Job's three friends are to be \ nded that they sat with Job but are not to

be comm ed for the flawed theology they spoke of. We bo. are called to be present with our brother and sis'tmijrefighters when they are on the grief journey. s1hply being present is often enough. But at any rate we should not try to "fix" the grief. Grief is a journey we must all travel through and we traverse it in our own time and fashion, but it sure helps to have a shoulder to cry on and a hand to support us. Continue to serve as we are called to do and

Presidents Report January 2,2020

Greetings to all, I hope everyone got thru the hectic holiday

season alright. Hard to believe that its been 20 years since Y2K, when the world was going to fall apart. Sure, glad we made it.

on the Pension Board was at our December meeting and Steve Corvi who holds the active members position on the Pension board attended our January meeting. Both members are from Central Ohio and seem to be truly working to make things better. Both shared their thoughts and goals for the upcoming year. It is great to finally have a voice from Central Ohio on the Pension Board.

The Health Insurance issues seem to have set- tled down some. I know we still have a way to go for the Pre-65 members, and I hope that being able to shop outside of the Aon Network will help. The contract with Aon expires next year and I would hope that the Board would look to find a replacement if things aren't resolved in this second year.

I would like to thank all the members of 4 Unit that gave their time to help at the Firefight- ers for Kids this year. They worked in some very tight conditions in a building that was smaller than normal. Many have been involved for dec- ades and should all be commended for their hard work.

Myron Ingram is one of our Co-chaplains who will be attending the Save a Warrior Program in Licking County. It is designed to help those members of Police, Fire, EMS and the Military that are dealing with PSTD and other issues that cause stress to those that are working and those that have retired. It is a ranch like setting where members will live for 5 days and attend work- shops. There are plans to open another facility in southern Ohio dedicated to men and the Licking County location would be for women. Currently the programs are alternated between the two gen- ders. Local 67 has had several members attend and believe it to be very beneficial. Myron will report back to the Executive Board at the next month's meeting.

The 4 Unit dues are collected late October thru the end of January. If you have not paid your dues yet, please do. I will be sending out past due reminders starting at the end of January.

We still have a few positions that need to be filled. We are still in need of a cook. Someone to bring in some simple firehouse meals. We are also looking to bring in some lunches from local vendors. This person would need to coordinate that as well. We are trying to not overload this

person and keep this as simple as possible. Any- one interested, please contact an Executive Board member. The other position is to replace Keith Bruno. Keith is the always smiling face that collects the money for our 50/50 drawing. This would require someone that would be able to attend most meetings. Lastly still looking for a replacement for the President's position. I stat- ed at the December meeting that I will be leav- ing in June. Anyone interested, please contact me or anyone on the Board. Captain Lee Curry The book talks about how the Fire Depart-

ment was ran; different fires and rescues; training; histories of fires, past and present; and the danger of the job, along with a of fun- ny stories in and around the Fire Department.

Captain Lee Curry had more than thirty- five years in the fire service. He has made nu- merous rescues and saved a lot of lives. He served on one of the busiest rescues and was on the bomb squad for twenty-five years. He has done about every job in the fire depart- ment.

Captain Curry started as crash rescue crew member in the USAF. After discharge, he was a firefighter on the Newark and Columbus (Ohio) Fire Departments. When he started in the old fire department, the equipment was a lot different than it is today and has now moved on to a more modern department. Look for: Rescue and Firehouse Memories

MEN ARE JUST HAPPY PEOPLE What do you expect fi-om such simple creatures?

Your last name stays put. The garage is all yours. Wed- ding plans take care of themselves. Chocolate is just an- other snack. You can never be pregnant. You can wear a white T-shirt to a water park. You can wear NO shirt to a water park.

Car mechanics tell you the truth. The world is your urinal. You never have to drive to another gas station restroom because this one is just too icky. You don't have to stop and think of which way to turn a nut on a bolt. Wrinkles add character. Wedding dress $5,000. Tux rental is $100. People never stare at your chest when you're talking to them. New shoes don't cut, blister or mangle your feet. One mood all the time. Phone conver- sations are over in 30 seconds flat. You know stuff about tanks.

A five day vacation requires only one suitcase. You can open all your own jars. You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness. If someone forgets to in- vite you, he or she can still be your friend. You under- wear is $8.95 for a 3 pack. Two pairs of shoes are more

than enough. You almost never have a strap problems in public. You are able to see wrinkles in your clothes. Eve- rything on your face stays its original color. The same hairstyles lasts for years, maybe decades. You only have to shave your face and neck. You can play with toys all your life. One wallet and one pair of shoes one color for all seasons. You can wear shorts no matter how your legs look. You can 'do' your nails with a pocket knife. You have freedom of choice concerning growing a mus- tache ... You can do Christmas shopping for 25 relatives on December 24th in 25 minutes. No wonder men are happier. Knick Names: If Laura, Kate and Sarah go out for lunch, they call each other Laura, Kate and Sarah. If Mike, Dave and John go out, they will affectionately refer to each other as Fat Boy, Bubba and Wildman. Money: A man will pay $2 for a $1 item he needs. A woman will pay $1 for a $2 item that she doesn't need but it's on sale. Bathrooms: A man has six items in his bathroom: tooth- brush, toothpaste, shaving cream, razor, a bar of soap and a towel. The average number of items in the typical wom- an's bathroom is 337. A man would not be able to identify more than 20 of these items.
