1 Central Administration Tool

1.1 NetAct Administration of Measurements

Use the Administration of Measurements tool to get an overview about the measurement situation and as well to create, start and stop measurements in the RNC.

Include the following aspects:

Understand the difference between a measurement and a measurement plan.Solution: A measurement plan contains usually one or several measurements and schedule definitions

Upload the measurement plans from the RNC named by the trainer. Please coordinate this task with the other exercise teams of the course.

What happens if the Administration of Measurements application finds during the upload an active measurement in the NE, which is not already defined in a plan? Solution: A new plan is created. Check if newly created measurements are active in the RNC as well. What is needed for that? Solution: A measurement plan containing the measurements must not only be created in NetAct, but also be started from NetAct into the RNC. Modify your running measurement plan. What do you have to do as a first step before you can change your measurement plan? Stop the plan first, then modification is possible. Finally check which measurement plans are active in the network elements. How can you perform this task? What do you see in the displayed window?Solution .

2 Reporting Tools

2.1 Report Builder2.1.1 Create a report using Report Wizard

Use the Report Wizard to create a new report containing the counters average_load and peak_load of the RNC Load Measurement.

Hint! The RNC Load measurement should already be running. If not, start it right now.

Include the following aspects:

Select your TEAMx folder in the TRAINING/OSSREP report folder. (If the folder is not yet created, create it now).

Find the RNC PIs average_load and peak_load in the tree of the available performance indicators. Be sure that these are RNC counters (not MGW)!

The report should end at the current time and include all weekdays and hours. Reporting time shall be two weeks, the summary level daily.

Reported object shall be your RNC (ask the trainer which RNC should be used). Solution .

Generate the graphical report and analyse the result. Reload the chart by choosing Enforce Query. What is the difference between Enforce Query and Show Chart?Solution Result

With Show Chart a report, which is already available in the cache, is displayed. You can also reload reports by enforcing the query on them. Scheduled reports are overwritten in the cache.

2.1.2 KPI Creation using Formula Wizard

Use the Formula Wizard to create a new formula. Choose appropriate counters of your own interest. Example: the ratio of peak load to average load in percent taken from the RNC Load Measurement.

Check if the RNC measurement of which you take the counters from is already running in the RNC. If not, start it right now.

Include the following aspects:

Create a KPI folder named TRAINING within the Root-folder if not already existing.

Create a KPI folder named TEAMx reflecting your team number (ask the trainer!) within the TRAINING folder if not already existing. Use the following arithmetical symbols: + , - , * , / , avg , min , max, sum, (, ) Please note, that KPIs must be written between $-signs, e.g. $_nokran.peak_load$. The minimum arithmetical operation is sum( ) , e.g. sum ($_nokran.peak_load$).

Example format of a valid formula: sum($_nokran.peak_load$)/sum($_nokran.period_duration Unit Load$)*100Solution .

Create a report in Report Builder, which contains your own just created formula.

SolutionProceed as in section 2. Create a report using Report Wizard.

2.2 Report BrowserUse the Report Browser to browse different reports.

Include the following aspects:

Search for the report(s) you created previously with Report Builder. Is there a Time Period Selection window visible in the upper part of the Report Tree? Why is it visible/not visible? Solution: If the time frame has been defined to be relative in the time dimension window, the Time Period Selection is visible. If the time frame is absolute for the corresponding report, Time Period Selection it is not visible. Find and generally understand the report description of the displayed reports.

Solution .

2.3 KPI BrowserUse the KPI Browser to browse data of counters and formulas.

Include the following aspects:

How can you select all KPI/PIs of the Cell Resource folder in one step? Note: (The limit is 50 counters.) Solution: Click the Cell Resource folder icon Which step is necessary to get the other dimensions beside the KPI-tree displayed? Solution: First the counter(s) have to be selected, because the other dimensions depend on this selection. Modify your KPI report without drilling and with drilling. Compare both.

Create a bookmark for your KPI query. Verify the result.
