The Connecticut Association of Schools (formerly the ConnecticutAssociation of Secondary Schools) was created in 1953 through themerger of the Connecticut Association of Secondary SchoolPrincipals and the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference.CAS is an organization of member schools, united to serve the needsof the students and schools of Connecticut in all areas of inter-schoolactivity.

In 1990, CAS extended membership to elementary schools, asignificant milestone since the Association had worked exclusively inthe service of secondary schools for over fifty years. CAS is charteredby the State of Connecticut as a non-profit, tax exempt educationalorganization. It is affiliated with the National Association ofSecondary School Principals, the National Association of ElementarySchool Principals, the National Federation of State High SchoolAssociations, and the National Middle School Association. TheAssociation today represents over 1000 of Connecticut’s schools.

Bob ValvanoGuest SpeakerBob Valvano is the host of the popular "V Show with BobValvano," heard nightly on ESPN Radio affiliates across thecountry. He is a color analyst for college basketball for ESPNTelevision and ESPN Regional Television, and is the radioanalyst for University of Louisville basketball. He is the authorof "The Gifts of Jimmy V. . .a Coach's Legacy," a popular-sellingbook about his brother, Jim, who coached North Carolina Stateto the 1983 NCAA Championship. He is actively involved in"The V Foundation," which has raised more than 23 milliondollars for cancer research and awarded more than150 research grants.

Prior to joining ESPN, Valvano served as analyst for University of Louisvillebasketball telecasts and sideline reporter for television coverage of Universityof Louisville football games. Valvano coached basketball for 19 seasonsbefore entering broadcasting full time. He successfully rebuilt four differentcollege programs, setting all-time records for wins in a season at threedifferent colleges. At Kutztown University his team was 16-12 during the 1983-84 season. at Catholic University his team was 20-6 (1991-92) and atSt. Mary's College his team was 14-12 (1993-94 ).

Valvano-coached teams set more than 15 college records and six NCAArecords. The NCAA records were: three-point field goals made in a season,three-point field goals attempted in a season, three point field goals made inone game (27), three point field goals attempted in one game (63), three pointfield goals made, two teams combined (32), and most players making a threepoint field goal in one game (11).

Valvano's last season on the sidelines saw him guide Bellarmine College toits 10th winningest season, and a No. 25 powerrating in Division II.

Valvano lettered in soccer, basketball and golf at Virginia Wesleyan College,named All-Conference 1st team, and soccer MVP in 1978. He was a cumlaude graduate of Wesleyan where he majored in Communications. Theyounger brother of the late Jim Valvano, Bob serves on the Board of Directorsof both the V Foundation for Cancer Research, and Kosair Childrens HospitalFoundation. Born January 29, 1957, he is married with two children.
