BULLETIN ID: 2004005300, Rev 1PUBLISHED: 2004-11-12

STATUS: RetiredREGION: All

PRIORITY: MajorTYPE: Warning

Background:With the introduction of PCR 6.1, a new option is available to set the maxFrameSize setting of ethernet interfaces. ForRFC2547 and VLAN support, the value can now exceed 1518 bytes. All 4pGigE cards and the new 4p/8p100BaseT FPsare affected.

Analysis:In PCR6.1 changing the maxFrameSize setting on a port of the 4pGigE and new 4p/8p100BaseT FPs does not takeunless the LanApplication it is linked to is newly added or under goes a critical change.

Recommendations:To avoid a service affecting condition and to have the maximum frame size (maxFrameSize) attribute of an ethernet FPport take effect, the value must be configured prior to initial provisioning of the linked LanApplication component. If this isnot done, the the port needs to be linked to a new LanApplication for the change to take effect or the FP can be reset.
