Students are required to write in their agenda daily, this will show you what homework they have.
For students that are tardy to school in the morning, it is required that the parent bringing the student, needs to come in and sign the student in at the office.
If your child will be absent from school, please make sure you have called the school to excuse them for the day.
If you need homework for them, leave the request with the front office, or you can call me to get that to you.

Happy New Year!!! It’s hard to believe that the first semester is already in the books. The second semester is surely to go just as fast.
Students are to report back to school on Monday January 8th. I highly encourage students to attend tutoring in Math and English this semester. Students who attended tutoring in these two subjects last semester greatly increased their grade.
As always please be on your best behavior while you are at school. If you should find yourself in the front office immediately ask for your liaison so I can ensure you are properly treated.
Lastly, I encourage the community to go out and support the Bernalillo Spartans. We have a few students on the teams which are doing very well. GO SPARTANS!!!

When many think of the New Year and what it brings, many may think of resolutions they wish to conquer. Most of you have probably set your personal resolution for this New Year, but consider taking on one more. Our children are so important and sometimes as a parent we find it easier to just do things for them, but by doing this we are not allowing them to learn and grow.
Let’s empower our children by giving them a choice and a chance by letting them learn to make their own decisions, when appropriate, and learning to trust their feelings.
Let them become more independent by walking into their classrooms and saying good bye at the door. Allow them the space they need to grow and learn to socialize without you.
Try to allow them to carry on conversations with other peers and adults without you jumping to correct them or help them. You may be surprised at what they can actually do. It is so easy for us parents to want to be at everything and do everything for our children, but truth is… we are not making them independent. We are not helping them to grow like we want them to.
You are probably thinking to yourself, my child is only 2 or 3 or maybe even 4 or 5 years old, but either way if we want them to be successful when they are grown, we need to allow them those opportunities now.
Taking a risk is the number one condition for building positive self-esteem. This comes easier for some parents than for others. I know I find myself having a hard time letting my daughter do some things on her own and in her own time, after all, our children will always be our “babies.”
When given the opportunity, you will see your child do things you never imagined they could do on their own. But let’s give it a try.
I hope you had a great
time relaxing with
family and friends.
As always, thank you for choosing us to love and care for your children. The Tamaya Learning Center would like to wish a prosperous, healthy, and Happy New Year to all our families!
Just a reminder to parents that any
child who is suffering from sickness and diarrhea must be kept home until
they have been clear of symptoms for 24 hours. This is to ensure we do not
place our other children and staff at risk of infection.
Do You Want to Build A Snowman?
This baking soda and shaving cream snow reci-
pe is super easy.
Pour one cup of baking soda in a bowl and add in shaving cream slowly un-til you get the snow con-
sistency that you like.
This snow recipe stays cool to the touch and has a powder like feel when
you touch it.

Tamaya Learning Center Infant Room
Infant Room Young Infants – Mobile Infants
0-18 months old
In the Infant Room, we are meeting new
milestones and new accomplishments every day.
Infants are beginning to learn about themselves,
learning how to control their little feet and
fingers, and are beginning to communicate with
their friends.
Activities
January Cultural Component: Newly Elected Tribal Officials
A new year brings a new beginning. January announces Tamaya’s newly
elected tribal officials. In an effort to introduce this new meaning to infants, we
will be introducing the Keres words for Governor and Lt. Governor:
“Ta-pu-pa” and “Ta-pu-pa Ti-nien-te”.
We celebrate the New Year and welcome all that it brings.
Transitions
This first month of 2018, we will begin the first week transitioning one of our
infants from the Infant Room to the Toddler Room. This transitional stage is a
smooth, gradual switch from infant care to toddler care which usually last a
couple of weeks.
We celebrate his/her new accomplishment this New Year and we await our
other infant’s accomplishments to come. As infants move onto greater
milestones, we will continue the process when other infants meet their
recommended growth standards.
What Will I Need?
Please make sure that your child has
an adequate amount of diapers, wipes,
formula, and a change of clothes that
reflects the weather. Teachers will do their
best to keep you up to date.
Thank You,
Teacher Melinda Trancosa & Staci Aguilar

Merry Christmas
Happy New Year to Everyone. First of all, We hope everyone had a
wonderful Holiday with Family and
Friends, and enjoyed their time at
Tamaya. Its amazing how the year
has flown by and that we are ready
to start the New Year.
For this month we will be working on
four different themes beginning with “Tribal Leadership”. We
plan to take a walking fieldtrip to the Administration Building to
visit the Governor's office and hopefully to meet the new Tribal
Officials. The children will be developing a picture banner of the
New Tribal Officials, so any of you New Tribal Officials PLEASE
feel free to stop by the childcare and have your picture taken.
Our next theme will be “Mad Science Week”. This week they will
have the opportunity to Explore, Discover and demonstrate
their logical reasoning and problem solving skills along with
increasing their confidence in balancing/motor control. We
plan to take a fieldtrip to the Children's Museum in Santa Fe.
The next theme is “Hero Week”. We will be learning about
community helpers, who and what makes them a hero. The children will learn that Heros
come in all different types, shapes, forms and have many different types of qualities
that make them a hero.
And our final theme is “Pet Week”. Here the children will demonstrate their
understanding of the cause and effect of relationships with pets such as caring,
providing nourishment, friendship and of course learning about “Stranger Danger Pets”.
We plan to take a fieldtrip to Clark's Pet Emporium.
The children will continue to work on recognizing and writing their names, cutting, sorting
and counting, They will also be reviewing the letters S, T & U and the sounds they make.
For our Keres component we will use words for the positions of the New Tribal Officials
and their names. The children will be learning the colors red, yellow, green, blue, and
brown. Along with learning the colors they will learn a song using these colors.
In the month of December the children went ice skating. They had an awesome time.
A couple of the children started out being scared maybe of the ice or just because of the
shoes, but the children had fun and enjoyed themselves. They also enjoyed making
Christmas decorations and singing Christmas songs.

I would like to wish everyone here in Santa Ana Pueblo a Happy New Year! I want to officially introduce myself, my name is Arnold Sena and I was recently hired as the new Facility Operations Director of The Tamaya Wellness Center. I am from New Mexico, I was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico and this coming March 2018 my beautiful wife Julie and I will be celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary. We also have two sons, a wonderful daughter in law and a delightfully amazing and beautiful Granddaughter. Our son Kendel is 20 years old and is currently at CNM studying to be a Master Mechanic. Our son Kendrick 27 years old is an Electrical Engineer working for PNM and his wife Mary Rose our daughter in law is currently working for Sandia National Laboratories as a Statistician, their daughter our beautiful granddaughter Anastasia will be 14 months old this month (January), she is such a joy and we, my wife and I are just so excited to be grandparents. You can probably tell that this is our first grandchild. I attended school in Albuquerque from kindergarten to 12th grade and graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1981. Upon graduating from high school I attended New Mexico Highlands University from 1981 through 1985 on Presidential and Athletic Scholarships. While in college I pursued a Degree in Business Administration/Management and played college basketball for the University for 4 years. I obtained my Bachelor of Business Administration/Management from New Mexico Highlands University in 2000. I currently have 35 plus years of working experience in recreation, management and administration. For 33 of those years I worked in City Government for the City of Albuquerque and in May of 2015 I retired from my position as Division Manager of the Community Recreation & Educational Initiatives Division. I thoroughly enjoyed my 33 years with the City of Albuquerque and the opportunity it gave me to work with and help people of all ages. In August of 2015 I took a job working for Youth Development Incorporation (YDI) as a Juvenile Youth Offender Case Manager, I was only there for approximately 4 months, but during my time there I found it very gratifying to be able to help young people straighten out their lives. It was definitely a hit and miss type of job, but when we were able to make a difference in a young person’s life it was a wonderful feeling. In September of 2015 Isleta Pueblo contacted me to see if I was still interested in the Parks & Recreation Department Director position that I had previously interviewed for in May of 2015, I told them that I was, so they interviewed a second time for that position and I was hired in November of 2015. From November of 2015 to December of 2017 I was employed with The Pueblo of Isleta as the Parks & Recreation Department Director for the pueblo. While working for the Pueblo of Isleta I have had the opportunity to learn more about the Native American Culture and many of their traditions. I made many friends and hopefully helped many people and the Isleta Pueblo Community while I was there and now I’m looking forward to working for and with all of you here in the Santa Ana Pueblo. I would like to take this opportunity to let all of you know that it’s a pleasure to be part of the Santa Ana Pueblo community, I truly consider myself fortunate to be part of such an amazing proud community and I am really looking forward to meeting and working with the residents of Santa Ana Pueblo and the Santa Ana Pueblo Government. I would love the opportunity to meet all of the residents of the Pueblo at some point or another. Please feel free to stop by the Tamaya Wellness Center and say Hi, I would love to meet you and hear about any ideas you may have to help make the Wellness Center better, if you are unable to stop by, please feel free to contact me .
