Fine-grained becoming finer toward lower contact; moderately magnetic; massive, but well-fractured; homogenous; lower contact lost in broken core.

Partially altered "granitized" basalt or sediment, a hybrid zone. Inhomogeneous appearance due to fracturing and irregular pale buff green to pinkish discoloration patches and lineations and fractures. Some weak epidotization; basic groundmass is fine grained and generally massive; medium to dare green in colour. Some foliated shear sections; estimate lS-20% discolouration. 14.1-14.24 Very fine-grained, pink feldspathic dyke; non-magnetic. 15.62-15.74 Pink, medium grained feldspathic dyke. Contacts irregular and at high angle ^O0 .

Medium to coarse grained "granitic" dyke. Massive texture, weakly porphyritic, pale pink with greenish interspacial grains of hornblende. Little or no observable free quartz so probably svenitic. Some volcanic inclusion material; variable ratios of feldspar to hornblende changes colour locally. Minor disseminated pyrite;

Saussuritization alorn fractures and small shears. Some pink feldspathization. Minor quartz blebs.

Minor disseminatedpyrite 1-31scattered through core.

No retained evidence of bedding.

Trace to li disseminated fine grained pyrite.

Weakly porphyritic more m-cg syenite.

ALTERED BASALT

Contacts are irregular, generally high angle orientations at 70-800 .

Similar to 13.0-16.5 in alteration and structure. More pyritic in places: 20.5-22.3 Pyritic section 20.5-21.6 Dark grey with many hairline fractures with pale alteration outline. Protolith questionable but groundmass has texture of mafic intrusive or volcanic - eve i grained, massive, near a salt/pepper texture 21.6-22.3 Strong epidotization at 801 pale pistachio colour. Irregular jumbled, wispy texture caused by epidote colouring of core. 22.3-30.6 Inhomogeneous, same as 13.0-16.5. Strongly silicified with frequent pinkish, aphanitic, fractured patches. Faint banding appears in places with depth. Sometimes the aphanitic, siliceous sections have appearances of primary chert bed distinctly interbedded with volcanogenic sediment? Lower contact arbitrary - gradational based on alteration.

No carbonate style alteration or veining Saussuritization, feldspathization, as for 13.0-16.5.

3-101 disseminated pyrite

5-lO% disseminated pyrite.

Small chalcopyrite grain in silicified or siliceous section at 24.6.

30.6-47.7

BANDED METASEDIMENT OREYWACKE- AROILLITE

Well banded on meso to fine scale. Core angles 70-800 . Colour varies between dark black to pale grey with sharp contacts in

l clear evidence. Individual laminae range in thickness from a few mm to several cm or mor3 Three types of bands- thinner, finer-texture l dark blackish bands of hard argillaceous roc c; weakly graphitic but non-conductive. Constitutes about lQ-15% of interval. Seconi type still fine-grained, grey, usually forming thicker bands- greywacke composition Both are very hard (siliceous).

No alteration present in sediments.

20.5-29.5 and 13.0-16.5 are probably sediment (volcanogenic grey wacke) greenish cast. Fracture alteration by siliceous solution etc has masked the original nature of the protolith. There is not enough clearly dissimilar in nature to the groundmass in deeper rock which is clearly well banded sediment.

Rare, thin, fine grained pyrite mass or heavy dissemi nation over lcm. Occasional interval with fine-grained pyrite l-2%.

Grades in to coarsely mottled, semi-banded, green, to pale grey- green basalt containing much calcite and minor ankerite. Minor splashes of leucoxene

300.7-306.0 Well mottled basalt - churned up appearance but with tightly packed, cohesive look. Variably altered groundmass, strong disseminated calcite component in groundmass, pale, splotchy look caused by carbonate.

306.0-308.0 Deep reddish felsic dyke. Mottled pink red and dark green. Feldspath! composition. Local shear banding. Contact sharp, upper 2O0 , lower irregular mixed with basalt.

308.0-310.9 Tightly fractured, brittley stressed basalt. Continue to be in general deformation zone. Local wispy, pinkish to b alteration patches. Minor calcite veinlets. Calcite still strongly present in groundmass

Nil sulfides.

Strong calcite groundmass alteration, minimal ankerite.

Strongly ankeritized basalt. Inhomogeneous appearance due to variable groundmass alteration, veining and fragment* structure. General foliation fabric 156.00 in more uniform sections of 600 . Numerous coarse knots of white ankerite and quartz. Texture pale ankeritized basalt is close to spinifex but protolith considered to be basalt. Leucoxene grains visible. Several buff coloured sections of more intense carbonatization. Lower contact gradational.

Fine-grained, even textured, dark green basalt. Massive texture to groundmass. Initial l meter contains 5-7mm wide quartz vein running along core axis. Fine, pale discolouration lines criss cross core - following fracture lines. Gradually dissipate by 323.5 meters. This unit is different from previous basalt sections. More massive, even grained, uniform texture groundmass. No calcite in groundmass. Non magnetic. Has fine salt-pepper (oophitic) texture, white feldspar in dark green horn blende groundmass. Last 1.5m becoming paler with carbonate groundmass and weak vein alteration.

Ankeritization, some quartz vein material,
