SAVING THE ENVIRONMENTRecently my friend came down in a spaceship from the planet Mars, to visit me. He was shocked at how the people of earth havedestroyed their planet. I explained to him that nowadays everyone is talking about saving the environment. We read about it in ourbooks at school, newspapers and magazines write about it and television screens flash out saving environmentprogrammes. Fortunately the humans have realised that they need to save their planet earth from further decay. Fortunatelythe humans have realised that they need to save their planet earth from further decay. My friend, the Martian reminded me,to my dismay, that he had been keeping a watch on how the earthlings were steadily destroying the environment. He said thatcutting down trees for building factories and settlements was harmful. But worse was polluting the rivers and lakes by throwinginto them factory and human wastes. He observed that the huge monsters we call factories, even breathed out smoke making theair unfit to breathe. He enquired about a variety of plant and animal life which had disappeared. I told my dear friend that recentlya number of organisations had been set up to look after and preserve our environment. Environmentalists were striving hard to keeplakes and rivers pollution free. The governments of the world have passed laws banning the felling of trees and indiscriminate killingof animals. Factories too were warned against dumping of wastes into nearby lakes and rivers. I assured my friend, the Martian, that we would do all we could to save mother earth. The Martian replied that he hoped to see a better earth on his next visit.Environmentalists were striving hard to keep lakes and rivers pollution free. The governments of the world have passed lawsbanning the felling of trees and indiscriminate killing of animals.

Electronics And Telecommunications EngineeringBy Dr Vibha Gupta

Electronic engineering focuses on the development, design and applicationof circuits, devices and control systems for communication, computers, information processing and display, and system instrumentation.Telecommunication engineering is primarily concerned with transmissionand reception of messages and data. The Work Electronics engineers areconcerned with electronic components, integrated circuits andmicroprocessors. They design, develop, test, and oversee the productionof electronic equipment for appliances, radios, televisions, computersand information services. Telecommunications engineers are involved indesign, manufacture and operations of telecommunications devices. They specialize in one of the telecommunications sectors -the telephoneindustry, computer industry, microwave, radio systems, satellitecommunication, earth stations using satellite dishes, cellular phones

industry, fibre optics communication systems etc. These engineers designcircuits to perform specific tasks, such as amplifying electronic signals, adding binary numbers, and demodulating radio signals to recover theinformation they carry. Circuits are also used to generate waveformsuseful for synchronization and timing, as in television, and for correctingerrors in digital information, as in telecommunications. Duration AndWhat The Course Covers The duration of this course is 4 years and thebasic eligibility is 10+2 with the subjects Physics, Chemistry andMathematics. The study covers a range of topics such as electronicdevices and components, electrical networking, control systems, electromagnetic theory, power electronics, tele-communication,microprocessors, computer fundamentals. Many institutes all over Indiaoffer this course. Admission is, usually, made on the basis of admissiontests, which evaluate students' aptitude, ability, knowledge and applicationof the subjects.
