The Road Not TakenTWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down

one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth;        5    Then took the other, as just as fair,And having perhaps the better claim,Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same,        10

The Road Not TakenAnd both that morning equally layIn leaves no step had trodden black.Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way,I doubted if I should ever come back.        15

I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference

The Road Not Taken What are your initial reactions to the

poem?

When “two roads diverge,” people are forced to make a choice. -What is Frost suggesting about the importance of that choice? -What is he suggesting about the difficulties in returning to make a different choice at a later time?

The Road Not Taken Have you ever felt yourself to be at a

point where “two roads diverged” for you? If so, can you talk about it?

What individuals have you encountered in your own life that have taken the road “less traveled by,” the one that “was grassy and wanted wear”? Did their choices make “all the difference”?

The Road Not Taken

What is the “undergrowth” of our lives? What should we do about it?

How do you feel about the last line? Agree, disagree?

Individualism, Caution, Commitment, Accepting a Challenge

The Road Not Taken As we move into this unit of choosing

to make a difference, why are we reading this poem?

How are you feeling about the project?
