    INTRODUCTION

    The CD player is capable of readingmost compression systems currently inuse (e.g.: LAME, BLADE, XING,FRAUNHOFER) but, following the de-velopment of these systems, the read-ing of all compression formats is notguaranteed.

    do not stick labels on the surface of theCD and do not write on the recordedsurface using pens or pencils;

    do not use CDs that are veryscratched, flawed, distorted, etc. Us-ing discs like this will result in malfunc-tions or damage to the player;

    the use of original CD supports is re-quired for the best quality audio pro-duction. If CD-R/RWs that have notbeen correctly mastered and/or witha maximum capacity above 650 MB areused, correct operation is not guaran-teed;

    do not use the protective sleeves soldfor CDs or discs with stabilizers, etc.because they could get stuck in the in-ternal mechanism and damage the disc;

    if copy protected CDs are used, it maytake a few seconds before the systemstarts playing them. The CD player can-not be guaranteed to play all protect-ed discs. The fact that the CD is pro-tected from being copied is oftenshown in very small letters or is difficultto read on the actual CD cover whereit may be, for example, COPY CON-TROL, COPY PROTECTED, THISCD CANNOT BE PLAYED ON APC/MAC, or it may be identifiedthrough the use of symbols, such as, forexample:

    CDs

    Dirt, scratches or any distortions on CDscould cause problems when playing andpoor sound quality. Follow this advice foroptimum conditions:

    only use CDs with the following brand:

    clean every CD thoroughly removingany fingermarks or dust using a softcloth. Hold CDs by the outside and cleanthem from the middle outwards;

    never use chemical products (e.g. anti-statics or thinners or sprays) for clean-ing as they could damage the surface ofthe CDs;

    after listening to them place CDs back intheir casings to avoid damage to them;

    do not expose CDs to direct sunlight,high temperatures or dampness for longperiods;

    The volume at which the traffic update istransmitted depends on the reception vol-ume:

    listening volume above 5: traffic newsvolume equal to listening volume +1.

    If the volume is changed during a traffic up-date, the level will not be shown on thedisplay; the new level will only be main-tained during the update.

    ANTI-THEFT PROTECTION

    The radio is equipped with an anti-theftprotection system based on the exchangeof information between the radio and theelectronic control unit (Body Computer)on the vehicle.

    This system guarantees maximum securi-ty and avoids the secret code having to beentered every time after the radio pow-er supply is disconnected.

    If the outcome of the check is positive, theradio will start to work, whilst if the codescompared are not the same or if the elec-tronic control unit (Body Computer) is re-placed, the equipment will notify the userof the need to enter the password fol-lowing the procedure in the paragraph be-low.

    Entering the password

    When the radio is switched on, if the pass-word is requested, the display will showRadio code for about 2 seconds fol-lowed by four dashes - - - -.

    The password is made up of four numbersfrom 1 to 6, each corresponding to one ofthe dashes.

    To enter the first number, press the but-ton corresponding to the preset stations(from 1 to 6). Enter the other code num-bers in the same way.

    If the four digits are not entered within 20seconds, the display will show Enter code- - - -. This event is not considered an in-correct entering of the code.

    After entering the fourth digit (within 20seconds), the car radio will start to work.

    If an incorrect code is entered, the radiowill emit a sound and the display will showRadio blocked/wait to notify the user ofthe need to enter the correct code.

    Each time the user enters an incorrectcode, the waiting time will gradually in-crease (1 min, 2 min, 4 min, 8 min, 16 min,30 min,1h, 2h, 4h, 8h, 16h, 24h) up to amaximum of 24 hours. The waiting timewill be shown on the display by Radioblocked/wait. After the message disap-pears, the code entering procedure maybe started again.

    Code card

    This document certifies ownership of thecar radio. The Code Card contains themodel of the radio, the serial number andthe password.

    IMPORTANT Keep the Code Card some-where safe so that the authorities can besupplied with the relevant information ifthe radio is stolen.

    MP3 MODE

    In addition to playing normal audio CDs,the radio is also capable of playing CD-ROMs on which MP3 format compressedaudio files are recorded. The radio worksaccording to the modes described in chap-ter CD Player when an ordinary audioCD is inserted.

    The use of good quality media burnt at theslowest possible speeds is recommendedfor optimum quality.

    The files on the MP3 CD are in folders,with sequential lists of all the folders con-taining MP3 tracks (folders and sub-fold-ers are all on the same level) and foldersthat do not contain MP3 tracks cannot beselected.

    The operating conditions and specifica-tions for playing MP3 files are as follows:

    the CD-ROMs used must be burned incompliance with the SpecificationISO9660;

    the music files must have an .mp3 ex-tension: files with a different extensioncannot be played;
