Solution The standard analyses of Inventory Controlling access two info structures: S032, which contains the CURRENT stocks, and S031, in which all the movements of the past are periodically aggregated (usually monthly). Thus, the info structure S031 does not contain ANY stock values for a past event. If you then start an analysis, in which information on a stock and its value is queried in the past, first the current stock is read from S032, and then all the receipt values and issue values are added to or deducted from the current stock up to the time of the date selected in the selection of the analysis from S031. An example: The month is August 2002 and you start a standard analysis, from which you want to determine the stock of material XYZ in May 2002. Your current stock in August 2002 is 10 pieces. This information is obtained by the analysis from S032. The analysis then reads the receipt values and issue values from S031. Let us assume the following entries for material XYZ in S031: Month-Receipt-Issue May - 3 - 5 June - 4 - 4 July - 7 - 8 August- 0 - 0 Therefore the analysis performs the backdated stock calculation in May as follows: Current stock = 10 pieces minus receipt August (0) plus issue August (0) = 10 minus receipt July (7) plus issue July (8) = 11 minus receipt June (4) plus issue June (4) = 11 (Remark: the receipt values and issue values in May are taken into account since the analysis always displays the stocks at the END of the month). Hence the analysis displays a stock in May of 11 pieces although the stock in May is not noted in any information structure (because the stock is calculated instead of being saved on the database). Therefore, in this instance, if you see an incorrect stock in May 2002, this can have the following causes: Your current stock is incorrect, and consequently the system displays an incorrect stock value in all periods in the past. An individual receipt value or issue value in S031 is incorrect: Imagine you had the following incorrect entry (80 instead of 8 in the issue quantity) in S031 for July in the aforementioned example: Month-Receipt-Issue July - 7 - 80 The analysis performs the backdated stock calculation in May as follows: Current stock = 10 pieces minus receipt August (0) plus issue August (0) = 10 minus receipt July (7) plus issue July (80) = 83 minus receipt June (4) plus issue June (4) = 83 512416 - LIS | Stocks in the past  Version 2 Validity:  22.04.2002 - active Language English Released On 22.04.2002 15:00:54 Release Status Released for Customer Component MM-IS-IC Inventory Controlling LO-LIS Logistics Information System Priority Correction with high priority Category Help for error analysis Other Components

    Reason and Prerequisites

Incorrect receipt values and issue values in info structure S031.

    Solution

The standard analyses of Inventory Controlling access two info structures: S032, which contains the CURRENT stocks, and S031, in which all the movements of the past are periodically aggregated (usually monthly). Let us assume the following entries for material XYZ in S031: Month-Receipt-Issue May-3 - 5 June -4 - 4 July -7 - 8 August- 0 - 0 Therefore the analysis performs the backdated stock calculation in May as follows: Current stock = 10 pieces minus receipt August (0) plus issue August (0) = 10 minus receipt July (7) plus issue July (8) = 11 minus receipt June (4) plus issue June (4) = 11 (Remark: the receipt values and issue values in May are taken into account since the analysis always displays the stocks at the END of the month). An individual receipt value or issue value in S031 is incorrect: Imagine you had the following incorrect entry (80 instead of 8 in the issue quantity) in S031 for July in the aforementioned example: Month-Receipt-Issue July - 7 - 80 The analysis performs the backdated stock calculation in May as follows: Current stock = 10 pieces minus receipt August (0) plus issue August (0) = 10 minus receipt July (7) plus issue July (80) = 83 minus receipt June (4) plus issue June (4) = 83

  • As a result the analysis shows a stock in May 2002 of 83 pieces although the current stocks of S032 and the values for May are correct in S031. THEREFORE AN INCORRECT ENTRY IN S031 DISTORTS THE STOCK VALUES OF ALL PREVIOUS MONTHS. To examine the facts in more detail, proceed as follows: 1) Compare the CURRENT stocks of an analysis with the materials management/the material master (for example Transaction MM03): If you find differences, set up the S032 again (possibly limited to a test material) in accordance with Notes 64636 and 79083. 2) If the current stocks are correct, you can carry out a material-related set up of S031 using report RMCBMMAT in accordance with Note 111691 for test purposes. 3) After that, to check the S031, you can start an analysis, in which you query the stock at a time at which you are SURE that no stock can have been available (for example May 1970). If the system also displays stock for this period, which you cannot explain in the comparison to the materials management, report this incident to the SAP Support. 4) It is also possible that both S031 and S032 were updated incorrectly by an incorrect posting. In this case in your system you will find both an incorrect current stock in S032 and an incorrect receipt value or issue value in the period of S031, in which the incorrect posting occurred. Consequently the analysis will display incorrect stock values for the current time UP TO THE PERIOD of the incorrect posting. The values before this time are correct however (because the incorrect values of S032 are compensated again by the entry in S031 through the backdated calculation). In this way you can determine the period in which an incorrect posting has occurred. If you send the message to SAP for the further processing, make a note of which steps you have already carried out. Additional information: In the selection log of the standard analysis it is displayed that the results were read from info structure S039. However this only indicates that S039 is able to read data from S031 and S032 as a parenthesis structure view. In actual fact, however, the analysis directly accesses S031 and S32. You can find more information in Note 79545.
