Fox Sports – Muncie is legally licensed as WXFN AM 1340. One of Indiana’s oldest, tradition rich radio stations it signed on in 1926 as WLBC AM. The station was owned for more than 60 years by Indiana Broadcast Pioneer and Hall of Fame broadcaster, Don Burton.

Mr. Burton eventually added WLBC FM and WLBC TV to his Muncie broadcasting empire. He sold Channel 49, WLBC TV to Ball State University in 1971 (WIPB) while WLBC FM 104.1 continues to this day to be the regions most important “voice” for community events, weather, news, entertainment and information.

The call letters for WLBC AM were changed to WXFN in October, 1996 and the station became Indiana’s 1st 24 Hour All-Sports Radio station that same fall. (WXFN = Sports for the X-TREME FAN.)

In 2013, an FM signal at 102.9 began broadcasting the programming originating from WXFN 1340.

Now owned and operated as a part of Jay Chapman’s WOOF BOOM Radio group, the station is a 24/7 All-Sports station affiliated with Fox Sports Radio, and various other sources of topical, sports news, talk and live play by play.

After nearly 90 years, the station still produces local radio sports coverage and information for a new generation of fans of high school, college and professional sports teams.

No station in the state has a longer, deeper tradition of broadcasting High School Sports than Fox Sports Muncie.

Don Burton was a pioneer Broadcaster at the Indiana State Finals in the 1930’s, 1940’s and 1950’s. He eventually turned over the microphone to his college-aged protegee, Morry Mannies who called every state championship game between 1956 and 2010. Morry was selected as the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame “Silver Medal” winner in 2003, his legacy of professionalism is a part of the continuation of the stations coverage in 2016. Mark Foerster, is the latest high school “voice” for the station.

It all begins in late August with HS Football and rolls through the fall and into the winter with high school basketball and the state championship games in both sports.
