Unique Identification of Commercial Vendors

Central Contractor Registration (CCR) is a government-wide system providing a common collection, validation, and dissemination point for vendor information used in acquisition, procurement, and financial processes

– Vendors are required to be registered for contract award and invoice payment; vendor maintains the record

Vendors are identified by their Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number (unique 9 digits) provided by Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) – key identifier in CCR

– Vendors must obtain a DUNS from D&B (provided free of charge) prior to registration in CCR

– DUNS are site-specific and division-specific

Each physical location must have its own unique DUNS number

Must have a unique physical address

– DUNS are linked through a hierarchical structure called a family tree

Set up by D&B, research, and/or entity input

Parent organization hierarchy/linkage is based on the D&B Tree

Linkage is set up at the time of the DUNS registration

– Vendor records in CCR also identify their NCAGE code (5 characters) and Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) / Social Security Number (SSN) (if a CONUS located vendor)

Federal Agency Registration (FedReg) is the government-wide system providing a common collection, validation, and dissemination point for government buyer and seller information used in inter/intra-governmental transactions

FedReg key identifier is called the Business Partner Network (BPN) Number (9 characters)

– Civilian Agency Buyers/Sellers are identified by their DUNS number (9 digits)

Hierarchy/linkage is based on the D&B Tree

– DoD Buyers/Sellers are identified by “DOD” plus their DoD Activity Address Code (DoDAAC) (to equal 9 characters)

Hierarchy based on pre-defined groups

– FedReg records are maintained by the entering Agency

DoDAAC

• DoDAACs do not have inherent linkage/hierarchy

• DAASC has developed a standardized hierarchy for the DoDAACs for FedReg purposes

• All records on the top two levels are for reference only

• All DoDAACs have been assigned to an Agency and Bureau
