1) Note: As we exchange with UC on a University-wide system, all places are allocated in OPAS as quarter as most of the campuses operate on a quarter system. However, if students are allocated to UC Berkeley or UC Merced, they will be on exchange there for a full semester: UC Berkeley and UC Merced operate on a semester system; other 8 campuses for exchange work on quarter system. Students should be aware they may only be on exchange at UC for one quarter, depending on which UC campus UC allocate them to. It is up to students to find out if their module/credit requirements will allow them to do an exchange to UC given they may be on the exchange for just one quarter. Spring as a starting term is only an option for the semester campuses, that is UC Berkeley and UC Merced. Spring is not an option at the UC campuses that operate on a quarter system. Students are not allowed to go for more than one quarter if placed at a quarter system campus. 2) Placement is NOT GUARANTEED - students may be re-directed to other UC Campuses despite what they put on their application form. Students must submit study plans for 3 UC campuses together with UC application forms. There is a chance that if students are admitted to UC that they may be placed at a campus not on their application. Once allocation has been done by UC it is not possible to change the campus allocation. 3) SEP students going in AY2014/15 can only apply for ONE quarter. Students will NOT be able to extend their programme. 4) Information Management, Journalism and Law courses in all UC campuses are not available to exchange students. Other restricted programmes: See

Students who intend to do an exchange-semester at undergraduate level are expected to have a standard of proficiency in German at the level C1 according to the Common European Framework. On master level it is much easier to find enough courses taught in English. Students are expected to take courses offered by University of Zurich. It might be possible to apply for one additional course offered by ETH Zurich provided that the student asks for approval at ETH Zurich.
