When first printed books appeared the public was indignant. “Manuscript copies are valuable only!”

Now printed books have to be protected to compare with electronic ones.

What advantages do eBooks have?

•eBooks are easily readable. Most readers offer zoom functions, letter resizing, etc.

•You can carry multiple books on one device.

•They're much more environmentally friendly. You don't have to kill a few trees for each book, and let's not even talk about the ink.

•Note-taking is much more powerful, and the notes you write can be found and referenced quickly and easily.

•Lighting conditions essentially become meaningless. Many readers incorporate display lighting allowing you to read whenever and wherever you like.

What advantages do printed books have?

Fans of printed books claim that there’s still nothing like the smell of paper and the rustle of the pages as the reader flips gently through the book with their fingers.

They cause a great number of associations. Paper books tell about a person. They include an imprint of the identity of the owner.

You will always remember a bright cover of the fairy tale which mother read in your childhood or a small volume of verses which someone presented you on birthday.

It not the same thing:

lending someone your favourite book to read and sending a link to a site by e-mail.

You are unlikely to be upset if the link doesn't return to you.

Paper books don’t need electricity.

They don’t finish on the most interesting place.

You can exchange paper books with your friends and other people.

You can get author’s autograph.

Just as vacation photographs show off where we’ve been, books on the shelves show where our minds have traveled.

«In the case of good books, the point is not how many of them you can get through, but rather how many you can get through to you.» Mortimer Adler
