for 30 hours’ document for further information about 30 hour funding.

It is very important that children arrive and are collected on time. Staff are not responsible for your child out of these

hours.

Children that stay all day need a packed lunch from home.

If you do not collect your child on time regularly, you will be charged for the extra time outside of the session.

Children attend for either 5 mornings or 5 afternoons per week. There is no cost for these sessions.

As long as our numbers allow, we can offer an extra session for your child in addition to their 15 hours. For example if

Please help your child to find a peg (in groups) and encourage them to hang up their coat and any bags.

Caterpillars, Cocoons & Butterflies

Children will be assigned a key worker and will either be in blue, red or yellow group. You will find out this

information when your child starts Nursery.

Children in Caterpillars will find their name & picture and stick it to the ‘I’m here’ board. Once your child has done this, they are able to choose an activity.

Children in Butterfiles & Cocoons will find their name & picture and stick it to the ‘I’m here’ board. Children in Butterflies & Cocoons will also find their name card or write their name. Please help your child to write their name.

It is important to give your child lots of encouragement and praise for their efforts.

Once your child has finished writing their name, they are able to choose an activity.

Children can become upset at leaving a parent/ carer or be overwhelmed by the occasion. We know how difficult it can be to leave your child if they are upset but please try not to worry. Children usually become calm within a few minutes and start to play happily. Sometimes it is best to say goodbye and reassure your child that you will return for them in a short while. If you are at all worried you are welcome to phone school to see how your child has settled.

Nursery Routine

Registration – the children come in and either find or write their names.

Carpet Time – The children will enjoy a short carpet session to introduce our topic. Then caterpillar, cocoons and butterflies will enjoy separate carpet session; tailored to their age and needs. Caterpillar children learn to develop their counting

skills and letter recognition. They will sing songs and listen to stories. The butterflies & cocoons will enjoy a more structured and formal short teaching session, focusing upon their current

topic. The sessions will be a mixture of early literacy, developing their maths skills and enhancing their knowledge

and understanding of our world.

Independent learning: The children choose activities set up in the different areas inside and outside or carry out an activity

with an adult. Children also have a phonics lesson.

Fruit time – Children sit at the table with their adults and friends. They have a piece of fruit and a choice of milk or

water to drink.

Children access further independent learning Home time – the Nursery gate will be unlocked at the end of the session and the children will leave Nursery one at a time as the safety of your children is our priority. No child will be allowed to leave Nursery without their designated person –

please let us know if for any reason this changes.

School Links

The Nursery and Reception class are part of the Foundation Stage therefore work closely together in a number of ways.

We celebrate the children’s achievements, both socially and academically, with a Foundation Stage assembly every Friday

morning at 9 am. If your child has been chosen as ‘The child of the week’ you will be invited to come to this special assembly to see their child get their reward. Please make sure we have

up-to-date mobile phone numbers.

Visits and Trips

The Nursery usually have trips out each term for example we may go to Sankey Valley Park for an autumn walk or Stockley Farm to see the animals, the library etc. Parents are always informed of any trips or visits we arrange for the children

and must accompany their child on any outings.

We hold a ‘stay and play’ session every half term. Please read the fortnightly newsletter for these dates.

You’re welcome to join us during these sessions for an hour until snack time to get involved with your child’s learning.

them if you wish!

Behaviour in Nursery

In Nursery we expect the children to follow our special rules, these include having kind hands, kind words, good sharing and

listening to our teachers.

We encourage the children to follow our special rules by using positive praise where by we reward and praise the children

who are modeling the correct behaviour.

We believe that Nursery is a time to teach children the expectations in terms of how to behave and therefore try to avoid being negative when unwanted behavior is exhibited,

however, if a child intentionally and repeatedly chooses not to follow our special rules, they will receive a verbal warning, if

the same behaviour then continues, the child will be asked to take some thinking time for 3 minutes.

If the behaviour then continues following time out the child will be asked to take time out in a different classroom, parents will be informed of any concerning behaviour at the end of the

session.

On a brighter note, those children who do extra special things in Nursery will be entered into a draw for our ‘star of the week’ award which will be presented in our celebration

assembly on a Friday morning.

One last word…..

We are looking forward to you joining us, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask any of the staff in
