YOUR BRAND IS PART OF OUR STORYJoin Melbourne as partner city at Hong Kong Business of Design Week.

In December 2018, Melbourne takes the mantle from recent partner cities and design heavyweights Italy, Barcelona and Chicago. It’s the first time that Hong Kong has chosen a partner from the Southern Hemisphere for its international conference on design.

Our partnership for this event reflects the growing global appreciation of our state’s design credentials and is an opportunity to build Victoria’s international design impact and profile.

The information below explains how you can participate in this initiative, which will take the best of Victorian design, both celebrated and new, to a major international business forum.

Join us in the ‘Business Showcase’, part of the Melbourne Pavilion at the DesignInspire Exhibition at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The knowledge gained and information taken away will be fundamental in rolling out what will be a significant future pillar of our business, allowing us to set forth a strategy to establish an eCommerce platform in HK and China.2017 BoDW Victorian Trade Mission delegate

MELBOURNE: BUSINESS OF DESIGN WEEK 2018 OFFICIAL PARTNEREach year, BoDW selects a partner city or country that is recognised globally for the quality and breadth of its design sector. Over the past 15 years, design-leading countries in Europe, including Italy, Denmark, France, Sweden and Finland have been featured as event partners as have the cities of Barcelona and Chicago.

This is the first time that a partner has been selected by the Hong Kong Design Centre from south of the equator.

As partner city in Hong Kong, Melbourne will be in the international spotlight in the BoDW conference program, as the key exhibitor at DesignInspire, at official BoDW events and in activities of our own making around the city.

The Victorian presence at BoDW will be led by the most senior Victorian Government representatives, in collaboration with leaders of design industry associations. It will include more than fifty small and large businesses, and at least six Victorian educational institutions.

MELBOURNE PAVILIONAT THE DESIGNINSPIRE EXHIBITIONLocated in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and delivered by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, DesignInspire is an international exhibition about design, creativity and brands. The exhibition is open to the public across three days (6–8 December 2018) and features installations from a mix of government, business, industry associations and educators.

Melbourne PavilionMelbourne delivers the centrepiece exhibition for DesignInspire on a footprint of at least 400 square metres.

The Melbourne Pavilion will carry the theme “Think Collaborate Create”, reflecting Melbourne’s approach to design.

The proposal for the Melbourne Pavilion is to present, through an integrated design and theme, five different zones:

1. A curated exhibitionProfessionally curated by the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), this zone will feature selected design work that presents Victoria’s design capability and achievement. It will incorporate a mix of design disciplines, including audio-visual and interactive components. The area will show some of Victoria’s most recognisable design-led business successes. Case studies in this area will have a design-led growth story that connects design impact and capability to Victoria.

2. A business showcaseVictorian businesses will have the opportunity to promote their own products and capabilities. Whether design companies, or companies that have been built on design, the business showcase is a way to reach a large international, design-aware audience.

3. An education showcaseThis part of the exhibit will allow Victorian tertiary institutes to present design research, case studies and collaborative projects.

4. Networking spaceA central “home base” within the pavilion becomes a focal point for networking. The Victorian Government will host at least one official event here.

5. Meeting facilitiesThe exhibition will also have limited space for more private meetings, allowing delegates to arrange business and engage in business matching programs.
