How big is Pack 150? We currently average 45 scouts and have 6 dens.

What is the organization structure? Our pack is chartered by Saint Patrick’s Parish through Mohegan Council out of Worcester. The council is part of Boy Scouts of America.

What is a pack and how is it made up? The pack is all scout in grades 1-5(tigers, wolf, bear, Webelo and Arrow of Light are the five ranks) and adults.

What is a den? Den is a smaller group of scouts and leaders. There is a minimum of 1 den per grade but usually 2-3. Den usually meets on a weekly basis.

What is a rank? Each grade is named after and is working toward receiving a rank. Ranks are as follows: Grade 1-Tiger, Grade 2-Wolf, Grade 3-Bear, Grade 4-Webelo, Grade 5-Arrow of Light

Do parents have to stay with scout? All tigers (Grade 1) are required to have an adult partner with them at all times at all events. All other ranks can be dropped off at den meetings; however adults may be needed to help stay and help (ask den leader). All scouts must have an adult at all pack meetings, camping or outing to stay with them for the whole time.

The Cub Scout sign or “wolf ears” also know as peace sign. This is used to get silence and attention of a room. Please respond by putting up sign yourself and help stop talking of others.

Where do you get the leaders? All our leaders are volunteers, usually parents of a scout in the den they are leading.

How frequently do dens meet? Starting usually in September most dens will meet weekly. Tiger dens may not start until October because they need to be formed. These meeting scouts will work on earning their rank.

How frequently does the pack as a whole meet? As a whole the pack meets usually ones a month. These are not required events but greatly enhance the scouting experience. Activities range from camping, holiday party, pinewood derby, themed activities, etc. Almost all pack events are for the whole family. Any restrictions on who can attend will be in registration or information for that event.

When will my son get patches, achievements and awards? As of Sept 2015 we are using new program which has instant recognition belt loops handed out in den meetings. Elective belt looks will be handed out at den meetings as well but must be ordered after earned first. The more activities they come to, the more likely that they will have an award of some kind. Other awards and end of year rank advancement will be in April at pack meeting. We ask that everyone be respectful during ceremonies and not have conversation during ceremonies that distract from the scouts receiving recognition. Good sportsmanship is one of the key lessons we want to teach. Everyone that completes rank will receive rank advancement. (Exception is Arrow of Lights)

We want to work on awards outside of our den, what do we do? One of the great ways to earn extra awards and have fun outside of the den meeting is to work on electives. Anyone

can earn these at any time. Any adult can sign off on the completion of these. These are in the handbooks for each rank. There are also some patches as well that can be earned.

How is the pack run? The pack is run by a committee of volunteers. These volunteers are made up of adults in named positions or non-named positions. Any adult within the pack may join the committee to help make decision about what the pack does. All volunteers are required to take Youth Protection course prior to starting as well as other training for what title they are volunteering for. Training can be found on my.scouting.org. Anyone can register and take online courses. Youth Protection is suggested for all adults so they are aware of the requirements.

I want to help but don’t know what to do? That’s great! You can speak to any of current volunteers and they will help find what works best for you. We have everything from weekly help (den leaders, den helpers) Monthly (Pack Committee, pack meeting planners, master of ceremonies) to occasional help (campout, holiday party, pinewood, movie night, Blue and Gold) every little bit of help is needed. Many hands make for light work.

I’ve agreed to help, what’s the next step? For any titled position (leaders, committee, etc) will need to fill out an adult application and Cori form. They will also have to go to: my.scouting.org to register and complete Youth Protection training prior to application being turned in. Further training will be required, but the pack trainer will let you know what you must complete.

What is a class “A” Uniform worn? This is the blue or tan shirt, neckerchief and slide. Worn at den meetings, pack meetings, parades, popcorn show and sells, pinewood derby, etc.

What is a pack shirt or class “B” uniform worn? This is our royal blue tee shirt. These can be worn at campouts, good turns, overnights, around town.
