This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership record. VACANCY
Scotland’s first modern hospice, St Columba’s Hospice first opened its doors in 1977. Over the years it has grown and evolved into an exemplary provider of specialist palliative care for thousands of people with life-limiting illnesses in Edinburgh and
the Lothians annually, while also providing support to their relatives and loved ones. We currently have the following opportunity to join the Hospice team:
AHP Therapy AssistantBand 3 £17,760- 20,727 pro-rata, per annum + Pension Part-time 24 hours per week, worked over 4 days.
This is an exciting opportunity for auxiliary staff to step up into a 6 month secondment with the AHP team. This opportunity has arisen out of our Empowering and Enabling agenda, and in response to changes and long terms sickness in the team.
We are looking for an experienced, self-motivated, enthusiastic person who is able to work independently and as part of a team, and is ready to work in a different way.
You will undertake a range of therapeutic activities with ward based patients as directed, to include supporting the physiotherapy service in providing rehabilitation to inpatients, assisting with the organisation of discharges, and ordering equipment. You will be at the heart of supporting an enabling approach for people in the inpatient unit alongside and with the support of colleagues.
You will have good working relationships with staff and volunteers across the Hospice. You will be able to encourage and motivate people to enable them to achieve their goals. You will have a flexible approach and able to work unsupervised.

2. JOB PURPOSE
To undertake a range therapeutic activities with ward based patients as directed by the AHP team (physiotherapy, Social Work, Occupational Therapy). This will include supporting the physiotherapy service in providing rehabilitation to inpatients, assisting with the organisation of discharges, and ordering equipment. Supporting an enabling approach to patients in the inpatient unit.
To provide high quality support in the daily running of the AHP service both as an individual and team player.
3. DIMENSIONS

goals and continuing rehabilitation• Assist with organising discharges, liaising with professional, information gathering, and
ordering transport as directed by Occupational therapist or Social worker.• Assisting ward staff with patients who require support with daily function including
adaptive cutlery and small aids, communication charts. As directed by Occupational Therapist.

5. ROLE OF DEPARTMENT
The AHP service includes Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Social Work. We work within the inpatient unit, community and day therapies. We provide a holistic assessment and intervention approach to improve and maintain patient/family’s quality of lives. Working closely with the wider hospice team.
6. KEY RESULT AREAS
Administrative support• Supporting the team in the arrangement of meetings and / or events, including the
booking of venues, organising materials required etc • Processing documents, including distribution and collation of materials/responses as
required.• General administrative duties including copy typing, filing, photocopying and scanning.
Patients• To follow intervention plans set by AHP team to patients in the inpatient unit, supervising
and instructing patients/clients in activities relating to their treatment• Order suitable equipment for use on ward or in home environment• Monitor and manage OT equipment cupboard, ordering equipment & materials/managing
stock• Assisting AHP team with collecting information, liaising with other agencies regarding
discharge planning
General• To participate team meetings and act in accordance with agreed office practices• To carry out all tasks in line with St. Columba’s Hospice policies and to uphold these at

8. ASSIGNMENT AND REVIEW OF WORK
• Post holder provided with day to day support by the AHP manager and other clinical staff in AHP team and via regular updates and staff meetings and through the completion of the annual appraisal. Supervision is readily available,
• Workload will be generated by inpatient AHP staff. The post holder uses own initiative to make basic decisions regarding workload priorities and volunteer enquiries.

periods of concentration, but at the same time deal with unpredicted interruptions that may be urgent in nature and therefore require immediate attention.

PENSION: We offer a generous Hospice Pension. The amount that Hospice will pay will depend on your age, as shown in the table below.

PAYMENT OF SALARY: The successful candidate’s salary will be paid monthly direct into his/her bank/building society account and he/she will be required to open an account if such facility is not currently in operation
ANNUAL LEAVE: 27 days per annum on commencement29 days per annum after 5 years service33 days per annum after 10 years service
PUBLIC HOLIDAYS: 8 days per annum
Part-time staff will receive a pro-rata entitlement for annual leave and public holidays combined. Reckonable Hospice, NHS and Council service may be credited for annual leave purposes.
BANK ANNUAL LEAVE: Bank workers receive a payment of 12.55% in addition to their hourly rate for holiday pay
SMOKING POLICY: There is a ban on staff smoking in Hospice premises
