THE 6 WORD MEMOIR Apparently, Ernest Hemingway was lunching at Algonquin, sitting around the famous “round table” with a number of writers, claiming a six-word-long short story. Of course, the other writers balked. Hemingway told each of them to put ten dollars in the middle of the table; if he was wrong, he said, he’d match it. If he was right, he would keep the entire pot. He quickly wrote six words down on a napkin and passed it around; Papa won the bet. The words were “FOR SALE, BABY SHOES, NEVER WORN.” A beginning, a middle and an end! You are going to write your own 6 Word Memoir. A memoir is a slice of your life. It could be just one time period, and it could be just one aspect of your life. You can focus on your life as a whole so far or reflect on your middle school experience. It can be about something that happened to you, a life lesson you learned, a motto for your life, or a way to describe who you are. Your 6 Word Memoir does not have to be a perfectly complete sentence, but it should complete a thought. It should not be 6 words just strung together. Publishing the Memoir Go to my website, mscookhhms.weebly.com, After you have written your memoir, you will create a PowerPoint slide with a background image and at least your first name. Then email it to Mrs. Cook at [email protected] with your first and last names in the subject line. For sale, baby shoes, never worn.
