Better quality hot meals, not made from pre cooked frozen ingredients. Good quality soups, not thickened with cornflour. Pasta dishes are spoilt as the pasta is overcooked and becomes too soggy. Bread used on sandwiches is cheap, often no butter/margarine on the bread. You can order in advance but not everyone is aware of this.

Staff are often rude and unapologetic when their food is returned. Food is often bland and at best tepid. From past experience I do not buy sandwiches other than on a Monday, because I know their bread will be stale. Food is often over cooked and rock-solid e.g. chicken pieces. And generally, items are way over priced for their quality and quantity! Due to the above (and I could go on!) I have started to bring my own lunch and only use Mellor's as a last resort.

Despite blonde food server wearing a hairnet, she allows her fringe to dangle freely. She only uses the hairnet to cover her bun and not the rest of her hair. This is vile, as it is unhygienic and risks her hair falling into the food. It is wrong that she sees it as professional and appropriate to put her own looks before the safety and quality of the food on offer. Being someone who has been employed in the catering industry, I know that there are great risks and challenges associated with such unhygienic practices. Its a wonder that I have not fell ill through such vile standards, but then again I tend to avoid this unappealing 'food' on offer. Staff are often rude and unhelpful. The vending machines have a better sense of customer service than the mellors employees.

needs to open all day to meet the needs of staff and students. Also canteen needs to generate funds to ensure that the cost of this bulid was worthwhile and a good use of funding.


Some of the staff are really stingy with the food, others will give you loads of food. Also some staff don't actually speak to you when you're paying for your food, they just stick their hands out for the money and don't smile.


I love the canteen ladies they are very kind and nice :)

due to some college rules, we are not allowed to eat take away food in the canteen, however the price of the canteen food is very expensive and its a lot cheaper outside of college for equivalent products, if the price was a lot cheaper we wouldn't be tempted to bring take away food in.

it is inconvenient when hot food is not available after 11:30. On certain day, the only time I have available to eat is between 11:30 and 11:55. Last week the hot food was not ready until 11:45, leaving me with around 5 minutes to eat a full hot meal. This is not the first time this has occurred, although I understand that the kitchen staff are probably doing all they can to prepare the food on time, and the service is generally satisfactory.

I think the cold food is average as this is what I buy - The hot food always looks great but I don't eat it at lunch times. I sometimes have the soups which have always been lovely. I have rated the food average because I don't think there is enough filling in the sandwiches or pannini's and they can be quite dry at times. The staff are all lovely though.

I bring my own lunches because the quality is better. I can make nice salads with a range of ingredients that are not on offer in the canteen. Staff would use the facility if the food was a better quality but it needs promoting to staff.
