ANNUAL REPORT : 2012 – 2013

The Chairman and the Members of the Executive Committee of National Institute of Personnel Management (Kerala Chapter) take pleasure in presenting the Annual report for the year 2012- 2013.

The year 2012 – 2013 was memorable and packed with enormous activities and programmes with the whole hearted support and cooperation of our valued Fellows, Members / Member Institutions and Well wishers.

The main attraction of the year under report was the 31st Annual National Conference 2012 hosted by NIPM Kerala Chapter from 6th to 8th

September 2012 at Le Meridien International Convention Centre, Kochi. The programme was inaugurated by H.E. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Former President of India on 6th September 2012 and the Chief Guest of the Valedictory Function on 8th September 2012 was the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala Sri Oommen Chandy.

During the year under review, we have lost following two senior professionals who were having very very close association with NIPM:

1. Dr. P. K. Aravindan, Past Chairman, NIPM Kerala Chapter who expired on 29-06-2012

2. Mr. P. V. Kurian, First National President NIPM who expired on 04-04-2013.

We pray to God that the departed souls may rest in peace and the bereaved families be blessed with courage and fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING – 2012

The Annual Day Celebrations 2012 was organized at Hotel Presidency, Paramara Road, Kochi on 23rd June 2012. The Chapter Chairman Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai presided over the function. . The MoM of the AGM 2011, Annual Report for the year 2011-12 were presented by Mr. Saji V Mathew, Hon. Secretary and the Audited Statement of Accounts & the Balance Sheet for the year 2011-2012 were presented by Mr. G. Anilkumar, Hon. Treasurer. The Annual General Meeting adopted the above MoM, Annual Report, Audited Statement of Accounts & Balance Sheet unanimously. The AGM also appointed M/s. Joseph & Co., Ernakulam as Auditors for the year 2012-2013.

Immediately after the business session the Annual Day Celebrations were organized. In the inaugural session, Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai, Chairman presided over the meeting. Sri R. Mohandas, National President, Sri Somesh Dasgupta, National Vice President, NIPM, Sri K. Ramachandran Pillai, NIPM Retna & CMD, NTC Ltd., Mr. G.L. Muraleedharan, Southern Regional Vice President (Elect) were the dignitaries participated in the Annual Day Celebrations. Various Awards including the Academic Excellence Awards like Zachariah Memorial Award, KRC Nayar Memorial Award, M. Sulaiman Memorial Award were presented during the occasion. Various cultural evens were presented by Family Members/ Children and also by Cochin Swarasree Chocklets during the Annual Day Celebrations. The celebrations were concluded with Annual fellowship and Dinner.

Biennial Elections for the term 2012-2014

The Biennial Elections for the Kerala Chapter Executive Authorities were completed as per the schedule announced earlier. During the Annual Day Celebrations, Mr. P. J. Joy, Past Chairman, NIPM Kerala Chapter announced the Biennial Election Results for the term 2012-2014 and installed the new office bearers on behalf of the Chief

a Legal Update 2012

23-06-2012 – NIPK Kerala Chapter’s Annual Flagship Programme “Legal Update 2012 was organized at Hotel Presidency, Paramara Road, Kochi on 23rd June 2012 from 9.30 am to 5.00 pm. The Key Resource Person was Prof. H.A.C. Poppen. The Panel Experts for Interactive Session were Mr. K. V Mohandas, Adv. Benny P. Thomas and Adv. C.B. Mukundan. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai, Chairman, Kerala Chapter. A total of 170 delegates from various industries all over Kerala and nearby states attended the annual workshop

b. NIPM Palakkad Group organized a One Day seminar on 12th

NIPM Annual National Business Quiz 2012

NIPM Kerala Chapter hosted NIPM’s 2nd Annual National Business Quiz 2012 on 6th September 2012 at SCMS Cochin from 9,30 am onwards. NIPM National President Mr. R. Mohandas inaugurated the Quiz Programme. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai, Chairman, NIPM Kerala Chapter. Mr. Shamim Rafeek was the Quiz Master.

9 Teams from various B-School of 5 Regions participated in the Business Quiz 2012. The following are the winners of the Business Quiz 2012.

The Cash awards were presented to the winning teams during the award ceremony of NIPM on Day 1 of the 31st Annual National Conference held at Le Meridien International Convention Centre, Kochi.

The much awaited 31st Annual National Conference 2012 was hosted by NIPM Kerala Chapter in a grand way and the programme was a well appreciated by the whole participants / guests / print & electronic media etc. The programme was held at Le Meridien International Convention Centre, Kochi from 6th to 8th

September 2012.

The Theme of the conference was “Aligning HR for the Triple Bottom Line – People, Planet & Profit”. The Sub Themes were:

The programme was inaugurated by His Excellency Dr. A.P.J. Kalam, Former President of India on the 6th September 2012 at 4.00 pm. The presidential address was delivered by Sri R. Mohandas, National President, NIPM. Mr. K. Babu, Hon. Minister for Fisheries, Ports and Excise, Government of Kerala delivered Special Address. The Key Note address was delivered by Sri M.M. Murugappan,

Vice Chairman, Murugappa Group and the special address was delivered b Sri Steven Heaslip, Chief Human Resources Officer, Laurelton Diamonds, Tiffany & Co., USA.

During the inaugural ceremony Sri P.V. Kurian, First National President, NIPM was given a special recognition by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and to Mr. Kochouseph Chittilapally, Vice Chairman, V-Guard Industries Ltd. for CSR Initiatives.

Mr. A. S. Girish, Chairman, NCON 2012 delivered the welcome address, and the other speakers were Mr. P. Premchand, General Convener, NCON 2012, Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai, Chairman, Kerala Chapter, Mr. P. Sudeep, SRVP. Mr. Y.P.S. Kanwar, Hon. General Secretary, NIPM proposed vote of thanks.

NIPM Annual Convocation was inaugurated by Mr. Ramachandran Thekkedathu, Vice Chancellor, Cochin University of Science & Technology. The Annual Award Night was also held immediately after the inaugural ceremony and many awards were distributed during the occasion. Various cultural events were also presented by B-School Students, and professional dance/ musical troupes on the inaugural day, followed by Dinner.

On the occasion of the Annual Day Celebrations on 23rd June 2012, NIPM Family Forum Members and Children presented various colourful cultural programmes. Family Forum also organized Dance, Musical programme etc. presented The Annual Fellowship and Dinner for NIPM Members & Families was also organized to mark the occasion.

b New Year Celebrations

On 19th January 2012 the New Year 2013 Celebrations were also held at Hotel Highway Garden, Kochi organized by NIPM Family Forum. Various cultural programmes including a musical fate were presented. The event concluded with Fellowship and Dinner.

a Academic Excellence Awards

During the AGM 2012, Academic Excellence Awards to the children in respect of Zachariah Memorial Award for Ist Rank Holder in MHRM conducted by M.G. University, K.R.C. Nayar Memorial Award for 2nd Rank Holder in MHRM conducted by M.G. University were presented. M. Sulaiman Memorial Academic Excellence Awards for Xth, XIIth & Degree were also presented to the children of NIPM members on the occasion.

b Induction Programme for B-School Students

11-06-2011 – Rajagiri Centre for Business Studies (RCBS), Kochi has organized an Induction Programme titled “Deeksharambham”

for new batch of MBA / MHRM Students at their premises on 11 th

June 2011. Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai, Chairman & Mr. Saji V Mathew, Hon. Secretary, NIPM Kerala Chapter attended the above function and addressed the new batch of students and briefed about NIPM activities. A Power Point Presentation was also given to them showing various activities of NIPM and also the benefits for becoming Student Member of NIPM. Student Interaction Programme

13-03-2013 - Mr. Anish Aravind, Executive Committee Member, NIPM Kerala Chapter and Associate Director, Arbitron Technology Services India Pvt. Ltd. has given a 2 Hour session to the Passing out Students of MBA 2013 batch on “Industry Expectation from Management Graduates” at Marthoma College Management and Technology, Perumbavoor on 13th March 2013

05-05-2013 – An interactive Session with the B-School Students at De Paul Institute of Science & technology was organized at the Cllege premises. Senior NIPM Members M/s. M. D. Varghese, G. Anilkumar & Anish Aravind interacted with the students and given presentations.

25-05-2013 – Interactive Session with the B-School Students at SAINTGITS, Kottayam was organized at the college premises. Mr. K.K. Vijayakumar, Mr. G. Anilkumar, Mr. Anish Aravind & Dr. K. K. Anirudhan were the faculty members interacted with the students. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai, Chairman, NIPM Kerala Chapter.

Students Forum –Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai, Chairman, NIPM Kerala Chapter has inaugurated the students forum of NIPM Kerala Chapter (Kottayam Group) at Saintgits College on 25th May 2013 at SAINTGITS. 31 Students enrolled as Members of NIPM.

d 08-08-2012 – NIPM B usiness Q uiz 2012 (C hapter Level)

NIPM Kerala Chapter in association with Binani Zinc Limited & SCMS Cochin organized NIPM Business Quiz 2012 for Ghanshyam Binani Ever Rolling Trophy at SCMS Cochin Campus on 8th

August 2012 from 1.30 pm onwards. 12 Teams for various Business School all over Kerala participated in the competitions out of which SIX teams qualified for final rounds after the preliminary

rounds. The Quiz Master was Mr. Arun A.S. The following are the winners of the Quiz competition:

In the valedictory function Cash prizes of Rs.10,000/-, Rs.7,500/- and Rs.5,000/- to the Ist Prize winning team / Ist runner-up team and 2nd runner-up team respectively and Ghanshyam Binani Ever Rolling Trophy to the Ist prize winning team were distributed. e Rotary Binani Zinc CSR Award 201209-02-2013 - Rotary Club of Cochin Metropolis in association with NIPM Kerala Chapter, Binani Zinc Limited, CII, ICAI & IMA organized the 3th Corporate Social Responsibility Award for the CSR programmes followed in organizations through value creation by innovative sustainable business model, risk management compliance and corporate philanthropy.

The Rotary Binani Zinc Awards were presented during the function held on 9th February 2013 at Bolgaty Palace Kochi along with the SCRIPT 2012 International Short film festival on socially relevant themes with over 400 entries. Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai, Chairman, Mr. Saji V Mathew, Hon. Secretary and many other senior members of Kerala Chapter attended the function.

b Conference Volume – NIPM Kerala Chapter has released the “Conference Volume” on the occasion of the inaugural day of the 31st Annual National Conference 2012 on 6th September 2012.

Kerala Personnel, our quarterly Magazine has been redesigned (2 quarterly + 1 Annual) and the aesthetic appeal has caught the attention of readers. Its richness and quality both in terms of its contents and presentation are well appreciated by all

d Executive Committee Directory 2012-14

NIPM Kerala Chapter has published the Chapter Executive Committee Directory for the year 2012-14 which was released by Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai during the Executive Committee Meeting on 27th November 2012.

e Commemorative Book Release on NCON 2012

Released the Commemorative Book on the 31st Annual National Conference 2012 (NCON 2012) by Sri M.P. Joseph IAS, Additional Chief Secretary (I/R), Advisor to the Minister for Labour & Advisor to Government of Kerala at 6.30 p.m. at Hotel Presidency.

LIBRARY

a We are happy to inform you that we have a well equipped Library at NIPM House, Kochi housing invaluable Books written by eminent Scholars / Professionals / Writers, related to HR/IR/Labour Laws etc. Members are requested to make use of our Library.

March 2013 along with the Auditor’s report are appended.

GROUP ACTIVITIES

a NIPM Palakkad Group

NIPM Palakkad Group organized a One Day seminar on 12th January 2013 at FCRI Conference Hall, Palakkad on the topic”Inspired Passion & Leadership for Organizational Success”. The Resource Persons were Mr.Winnie P John, Mr. G. Udayakumar & Mr. Sandeep K.

In the Evening the Annual Award Nite and New Year Celebrations were also held at FCRI Conference Hall, Palakkad followed by Fellowship and Dinner. Many senior Members from Kerala Chapter attended the function on 12th Jan. 2013.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIESSelection of Manpower for Kerala State Owned Enterprises.

a. As in the last year, we have during the this year successfully conducted Selection of Manpower for Kannur International Airport Limited which includes short-listing of candidates from the online applications, conducting written test and final interview out of the short-listed candidates from the written test. After successful conducting of the Interview, the final Rank List has been handed over to the authorities of Kannur International Airport within the stipulated time period.

ACHIEVEMENTS & RECOGNITIONS

a Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai, Chairman, NIPM Kerala Chapter has been nominated by the Government of Kerala as Senate Member, Cochin University of Science & Technology (CUSAT).

b Mr. K. Suresh, Hon. Addl. Secretary, NIPM Kerala Chapter has been elected as the General Secretary of “Kochi Health Mission” for the year 2013.

c Mr. A. S. Girish, Fellow NIPM, Head-HR & Admin., Apollo Tyres Limited has been nominated as Convener, HR Panel, CII-Kerala State Council for the year 2013-2014.

CONCLUSION

We take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to all members, organizations and well wishers who have extended their whole hearted support and cooperation in making our efforts a grand success.

Our special thanks are due to Chief Executives of various Industrial and Trade Organizations in the state for their patronage.

The Co-operation received from, the National Office during the year was very encouraging.

We also acknowledge with gratitude, the commitment of the Chairmen and members of various sub-committees.

We also thank NIPM groups at Calicut, Palakkad, Kottayam, Alappuzha & Infopark (IT/ITES) for their contributions and active support in making Kerala Chapter vibrant.

Our report for the year will be incomplete if we fail to specially mention pivotal role-played by the Fellows and Senior Members of NIPM Kerala Chapter and we sincerely thank them for their illustrious contributions through out the years. We also expect same spirit and cooperation in our future endeavors too.
