PROJECT TITLE: FURNISH FIVE (5) CLASSROOMS FOR VULNERABLE CHILDREN IN KADANA STATE, NIGERIA.

PROBLEMS STATEMENT: Lack of adequate furniture is a barrier to effective teaching and learning activities in rural communities.

ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND: HIV/AIDs positive widows and orphans initiative (HAPWOI) was registered on 26th September 2008 with the Corporate Affairs commission (CAC) (Registration number 295965) under the companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) of 1990 with a total of nine (9) trustees.

The initiative started in 1996 as a cooperative group with the purpose of helping widows, orphans and the less privileged in the society. The membership grew in number and needs, therefore the need to go beyond just being a corporative.

The members came together on monthly bases to meet each other’s needs, organize outreaches, conduct HIV counseling and testing within the community. They also went further to provide educational support, nutrition, psycho-social support etc. to its members and the general public with the limited resources available to them.

With the intervention and impact made by the corporative, it became imperative to work beyond being a corporative, hence, the conception and birth of HAPWOI.

In 2003, HIV/AIDs Positive widows and Orphans Initiative (HAPWOI) registered an outpatient clinic in Fada Kagoro known as Love and Care

PROJECT JUSTIFICATION: Lack of adequate classrooms and furniture has been identified as part of the challenges that lead to low school environment in rural communities in North West, Nigeria.

As a CBO that has done projects of this sort in several communities in Kaduna state, we have verifiable evidence that provision of more classrooms have increased school enrollment.

A block of classrooms that was donated by HAPWOI to U.B.E Dusai gida is a testament of this claim.

PROJECT GOALS

To increase school enrollment in rural communities. To provide conducive teaching and learning environment. To reduce the incidence of school dropout.

PROJECT SUMMARY

HAPWOI plans to construct chairs and desk to five communities within Kaura and Sanga Local Government Areas of Kaduna state for poor Orphans and vulnerable Children.

Our organization has conducted need assessment in these communities and we identified inadequate and non-conducive classrooms and furniture as the major challenges affecting education in the community. This has led to more school dropout, absenteeism, and lack of interest in school. With the provision of this furniture more vulnerable children will have asses to quality education.

At the end of this project, a total of about 200 poor and vulnerable children in Dusai gida, Dutse, fadan-daji, Ningon and Nungu communities will benefit.

This furniture will serve the communities for a long time. This project seeks to enhance education and reduce or eliminate out of school cases, social vices etc. Education brings positive sustainable change and development.
