Newsletter – Friday 22nd June 2018 Dear Parents/Carers, Author Visit Sarah Lean Last week Year 5 and 6 received a visit from award-winning author Sarah Lean. She introduced us to her latest book 'The Sand Dog' and gave us an insight into how she writes her books. The children responded brilliantly with very imaginative ideas for their writing. Sarah taught us about the 'power of reading': how reading about characters in books helps us to better understand ourselves and other people. She also taught us how important it is as a writer to keep improving and working on your ideas and not to settle for the first word or idea that you thought of. We still have some signed copies of Sarah’s latest book, ‘The Sand Dog’ for sale at £6.99. Please visit the school gateway to buy a copy of this brilliant story. Enterprise Week This week has been Enterprise Week in school. Our Year 6 children have opened their stalls each day before school to raise money for their chosen charity. This project helps the children to learn the basic ideas of business. To begin with they had to think creatively and come up with an idea for a fund-raising activity. They then had to write a business proposal and convince Mrs Carpenter that it was viable before she would release their £10 float. They then had to get together all the equipment/materials/ingredients they needed to create their products and ask for adult help as required. I am sure you will agree that the children have done an excellent job with their fund-raising ideas. Here is what they raised – amazing work Year 6. Thank you for supporting them. Summer Music Concert Thursday 28th June (please see adjusted times below)

We are looking forward very much to the Summer Music Concert next week. It is a fantastic opportunity for the children to show-case all their learning. There will be recorders, clarinets, choir, keyboards, guitar and drums. We hope very much that you will be able to attend. There is no charge; however, we will be making a collection after the concert and any money raised will go towards supporting the teaching of music in school. Please note there is a slight change to timings due to England playing in the World Cup. Children will need to be back in school for 5.00pm to warm up, the concert will start at 5.30pm and will finish at 6.30pm so that you have time to get home and watch England if you so wish!

Dance Festival

This week the Year 2 and 3 dance group (led by Miss Vaughan) performed at the Ashton Park Dance Festival. They danced wonderfully – their best performance yet. Well done to all the children involved.
