Rockets, Son Volt, and Wilco. Uncle Tupelo's No Depression came out, they defined what Alt-Country was at the time and despite their split in 1994 after their highly praised Anodyne, Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy went their separate ways and ended up making their defining albums in music. At first, Jay Farrar's Son Volt started their critical and commercial success with their first album, Trace, however they didn't stay consistent. Also, although Wilco's A.M was decent but ended up not doing as well, they ended up being the bigger player because of their musical diversity. The Bottle Rockets was like Uncle Tupleo but more of a southern rock feel in their songs and they were critically acclaimed with their second album, The Brooklyn Side but had issues with their label and still made albums despite not reaching their heights of popularity in the mid 90s.

These two Grunge bands from the 1990's both showed what made it successful at that time despite the comparisons of their sound through their breakthrough albums. For starters, there is a

common influence that deals with The Pixies. For instance, both Gavin Rossdale and Kurt Cobain were fond of The Pixies and both ended up using the same producer Steve Albini within their careers. with varying results. Sixteen Stone, Bush's first album showed that Grunge was still going strong but a lot of people realized that by this time in 1994-1995 that the genre that dominated the early 90's was declining due to multiple reasons, including the death of Kurt Cobain of Nirvana. The connection between them to me was the fact that their sound was similar and fans, along with critics felt that Bush was a decent effort to help show what Grunge was. However, they criticized them for acting like Nirvana and it got worse when they worked on their sophomore effort, Razorblade Suitcase in 1996. My overall opinion of Sixteen Stone is that I feel that even though Nirvana and Bush had The Pixies as an influence in their music, they both shared a time of greatness in their genre that hasn't been replicated since.
