Draw us to you and one another that our growing unity may bring healing of life to all, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. Thought for this week…..by Rev. Michelle Martin As the nights get longer and the cold weather is beginning to set in, it is starting to feel like winter is on the way. One of the things I love in winter is being out and about on an evening and seeing all the lights on in people’s houses. It always looks so warm and welcoming. Light in darkness is a real sign of hope – a reminder of the love which is always surrounding us. It reminds me of Jesus’s words to us in Matthew’s Gospel, comparing his children to a city on a hill whose lights cannot be hidden. We are the lights of the world (Matthew 5: 14-15). November 16 th marks the beginning of advent in the Celtic tradition. The Celtic Daily prayer book describes Advent as a time of interior ‘housecleaning’. If we are to really shine with the light that God has given us, then we need to take some time out to examine ourselves, do a spot of interior housecleaning and make sure our windows are clean enough for the light to shine through!
