English Little RedGive your child some ginger beer to try (or an alternative drink if you don’t have any).What does it taste like?How does it feel on your tongue?

Create an advert for Ginger Beer and include the fact that it keeps wolves away but that you also need to be careful because it makes you belch! Watch the pre-recorded video – Monday English video (wb 11.01.21) – to give you a few ideas. On the ILD, in The Learning Zone, there is a page border saved that you could use for the advert but you could also just use plain paper.

Games Play musical chairs but with words for reading. Write some words on paper and place them on the dining room chairs, the sofa, the floor – wherever! Put on some music and, when the music stops, they must blend the word to read before they are allowed to sit down! Take away the word they have read and make it trickier! You could use ‘Tricky words’ or decodable words – why not choose some from your child’s Tricky word sheet in their book bag. Please add a video to the ILD so that I can join in the fun.!

Watch the pre-recorded video where I will draw a story mountain. – Tuesday English video (wb 11.01.21). You will find this in The Learning Zone of the ILD. I have also saved a blank copy of the story mountain in the same place so that you can have a go at making your own story mountain at home. You could ask an adult to write the phrases/sentences for you or you could draw pictures to show what happens in the story.

Role play Little RedCould you set up ‘Ye Olde Belch Inn’ at home? You could take it in turns to be a customer or an innkeeper. I wonder what tales you might tell about your adventures in the woods. When you are the innkeeper, you might want to have a notepad so that you can write down the customer’s order.

Have a go at writing the numbers to show how many teddies or toys are in each place.

English Think about the story of Little Red. Ask your child about their favourite parts and then ask them to draw a picture of their favourite part of the story. They could then add a label, phrase or sentence to go with it. It would be helpful if you could draw a line for your child to write on and then support them in hearing and recording sounds in words. I wouldn’t expect all sounds to be heard and the children won’t have correct spelling for many/all of the words. Below is an example.‘Burping was the best bit’ might look like ‘bp wos the bes bit.’

Handwriting Write some numbers and/or letters outside, on the ground, in chalk. Ask your child to use a paint brush dipped in water to trace over them. What happens? If you don’t have any chalk or it’s raining outside, you could always write the numbers and letters on paper, in pencil, for your child to trace over in pen.

Topic Go on a Welly Walk around your local area.

Talk about which season it is and look for signs on winter. You could ask your child to take photos of the signs of winter that they find and then upload them to the ILD.

Magic words Using a white crayon, ask your child to write some words, either tricky or decodable words. Then using paint, watch how the paint magically makes the words appear!

Obstacle course

Can you prepare this obstacle course for your child? You can use anything around the house from masking tape to wool! Can they weave themselves in and out, going over and under? If you would prefer, you could make an obstacle course with your child, either inside or out, for them to travel around. Video your child doing this and add it to the ILD!
