BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINABuenos Aires is the capital of Argentina,

South America’s largest Spanish-speaking

country. This dynamic metropolis of almost

3 million people is home to one of every

three Argentines. Buenos Aires is a vibrant,

cosmopolitan city with a European flavor,

whose elegant residential neighborhoods,

beautiful parks, and wide boulevards are why

some refer to it as the “Paris of the Americas”.

The vast array of cultural activities in Buenos

Aires rivals that of any other world capital.

Porteños, as the residents are called, enjoy

an extensive offering of theater, music, dance,

and cinema as well as plenty of local soccer

games and other sporting events. Buenos

Aires never sleeps; there is always time

to enjoy a coffee at a street café, sample

Argentina’s famous beef or visit a trendy

nightclub and dance until dawn.

Universidad Torcuato Di Tella is located in

Belgrano, one of the 48 neighborhoods that

make up Buenos Aires. It is about twenty

minutes from downtown, connected by

subway, commuter train and several bus lines.

Argentina’s geography and climate are

widely varied, providing many unique

travel opportunities. The northern part of

the country is subtropical and home to the

breathtaking Iguazú Falls. To the west is

the Andes mountain range, where great

skiing and hiking are only a two-hour flight

from Buenos Aires. Further south, the

Perito Moreno Glacier, notable because

it is still advancing, and Ushuaia, the

world’s southernmost city, are spectacular

destinations.

Iguazú Falls, Misiones.

Founded in 1991, the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella is a non-profit institution

created on the pillars of two cornerstone organizations in Argentina: the

SIAM factory (1910) and the Instituto Di Tella (1958).

SIAM was the country’s largest industrial company of its time and also the

first Argentine organization to have commercial presence in several Latin

American countries and in Europe. Innovative and with a global vision, it

produced over 250 different products, ranging from household appliances

to gas pumps and cars.

The Instituto Di Tella (1958) was home of the artistic vanguard of the late

50s through the 70s. Also center of outstanding research in the social

sciences, the Instituto Di Tella brought together some of Argentina’s most

influential intellectuals and artists.

Inheriting the entrepreneurial and innovative spirit of the SIAM company

and the vanguardist essence of the Instituto Di Tella, the University’s

mission is to educate the country’s new business, political, academic, social

and artistic generations, and to produce basic and applied knowledge in

an environment of pluralism, academic excellence and equal opportunity.

ASTRID DE BOISSEU - HEC PARIS

“My experience at the UTDT has been excellent. The classes were very

interesting and the organization was good thanks to teachers and people of

the administration always ready to help. “

IRIS MAUBON - MCGILL UNIVERSITY

“Studying for a semester at Universidad Torcuato di Tella

was an amazing experience. Students, professors and

staff really help you feel at home from the very beginning,

it is thus really easy to adapt and integrate! Overall, Buenos

Aires is an incredible city that has so much to offer: a

strong and beautiful culture, great people, delicious food,

exciting nightlife … All you need for an exchange semester!“

STEPHEN DYER - THE GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY

“UTDT is inspiring and excels at preparing students not only

from Argentina, but also from around the world, to be the

next generation of business leaders. The campus is small but

its reach is infinite. The professors at UTDT are setting the

stage for how to do business in Argentina, Latin America, and

developing countries. I took my major classes at UTDT and am

now well prepared to enter the global workforce. If you want a

top-notch education in one of the best cities in Latin America,

choose UTDT. The faculty and staff are experienced, highly

educated and overall leaders in their fields.”

SETH AMOS - UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA

“I was a bit nervous about studying at UTDT because Spanish is not my first language.

However, everything in my experience was perfect. The University is easy to get to using public

transportation and the bus ditelliano, the people are super nice, and the academic experience

was very enriching. I left the country with many friends from all over the world and with the

feeling that there is no better place to study in Buenos Aires than UTDT.”

16

www.utdt.edu/derecho

UTDT offers a broad range of extracurricular

activities that enrich the experience abroad

and provide exchange students with the

opportunity to become more integrated in the

Di Tella community. Students are encouraged

to become involved with the sports teams

and to pursue cultural activities such as

chorus and theater.

Social action groups, which organize a wide

range of activities to improve the situation

of the less fortunate, and interest-specific

clubs and organizations are some of the other

environments where exchange students can

obtain a more in-depth knowledge of the

Argentine culture while contributing to the

community.

Through the buddy system and the language

exchange program incoming students are

partenered with local ones to help them ease

into the city and the university life, while

practicing their Spanish.

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

17

The DBIA program is an intensive one-week

course taught in English by UTDT Business

School faculty and invited speakers. The 30

hours of class time are divided into modules

that analyze diverse components of the

local business environment, thus creating a

comprehensive overview of how business

works in Argentina. It includes company visits

and cultural activities, as well as academic

exchange with professors, local students and

business leaders.

We offer two open editions in March and May

and are happy to create custom programs

that perfectly fit every school’s needs.
