FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT

First Reading: Micah 5:1-4a Micah speaks of the ruler who will come from Beth-lehem. He discusses how the people of Israel will be saved from corruption and live in peace.

Second Reading: Hebrews 10:5-10 Paul describes to the Hebrews how Jesus came into the world and offered to do God's will. We were saved through his sacrifice, the only offering suffi-cient for the sins of the world.

Gospel: Luke 1:39-45 Mary paid a visit to Elizabeth, whose baby stirred in her womb upon hearing Mary's greeting. Elizabeth filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb." Elizabeth was deeply overjoyed that the words God had spoken to Mary had now been ful-filled.

Christmas & New Year Blessings to all

I am sure you have read this before but it is worth repeating.

The Significance of Christmas

Christmas is the birth of the Son of God on earth. And yet, only the first Christmas took place in a stable. Every Christmas since then has taken place in human hearts. Every Christmas since then is significant insofar as it records the birth or rebirth of Christ in believers. Every Christmas is a celebra-tion and there is no celebration that compares with the realization of its true meaning— with the sudden stirring of the heart that has extended itself toward the core of Life. Faith and Hope and Love—which cannot be bought or sold or bartered, but only given away—are the wellsprings, firm and deep of Christ-mas celebration. These are the gifts without price—the ornaments incapable of limitation. They are not always easy to come by, but they are in unlimited supply—ever in the province of all.

This Christmas let us mend a quarrel. Build peace. Seek out a forgotten friend. Dismiss suspicion and replace it with trust. Write a kind letter. Share some treasure. Give a soft answer. Encourage youth. Manifest our loyalty in word and deed. Keep a promise. Find the time. Forgo a grudge. Forgive an enemy. Listen. Apologize if we were wrong. Try to understand. Forgo envy. Examine our demands on others. Think first of someone else. Appreciate. Be kind, be gentle. Laugh a little. Laugh a little more. Deserve confidence. Take up the arms against evil. Decry compliancy. Express our gratitude. Go to Church. Welcome a stranger. Gladden the heart of a child. Take pleasure in the beauty and wonder of the earth. Speak our love. Speak it again. Speak it still once again!

May joy, peace and love be yours this Christmas and in the year to come.

Thank you for all you do,

Fr. Duff

On behalf of our entire parish, I’d like to wish you all a Merry Christmas!

At Mass today you should receive the book The Big-gest Lie in the History of Christianity. This is a Christmas gift from St. Marys to you! We hope it empowers you to live life to its fullest. You will see that the book’s subtitle is “How Mod-ern Culture is Robbing Billions of People of Happi-ness.” Our culture is constantly feeding us lies and false promises. But the biggest lie isn’t a lie the world tells us. It’s a lie we tell ourselves. This book exposes the lie, gives you practical tools to cut through the confusion around you, and reveals the one truth that is the key to experiencing more happi-ness than you ever thought possible. I invite you all to read just a few pages a day and see how it infuses your life with meaning and purpose.

Once again, Merry Christmas! We wish you all the joy and peace this season brings.

Fr. Duff Fr. Aloysius Fr. Vincent
