WARM UPWrite your interpretation of the poem below. How does the form enhance the meaning? Does it rhyme?
POETRY -> FORMRefers to a poem’s structure, or the way the words are arranged on the page.
All words in a poem are arranged into line. The length of the lines, where they break, and how they are punctuated add to the meaning and rhythm.
A group of lines in a poem is known as a stanza (it’s like a paragraph in fiction).
FORMArranged into two categories:1.Traditional2.Organic
TRADITIONAL FORMFollows rules and a set structure.Popular due to predictable and regular rhythm and rhyme.
Example: Sonnet, Haiku, Lyric
EXAMPLES OF TRADITIONAL POETRYEpic: Long, narrative poem -> OdysseyOde: a meditative or commemorative lyric poemBallad: a narrative poem that is meant to be sungSonnet: 14 line poem having a set pattern of rhythm and rhyme -> Shakespeare

ORGANIC FORMMay not follow any set rules, pattern, rhythm, or rhyme.
