Thanks to the efforts of Rtn. Atia and the
good work she has done in managing the
water projects in Nyeri, our Swedish
partners in service have committed another
Kshs. 1.6 million for new WASH projects in
Nyandarua, Kirinyaga and Nyeri. Rotary Club
of Toronto has also committed USD 100,000
which will go towards our water and
sanitation projects in Gilgil and Nairobi.
We are grateful to Rtns. Suli and C.J. Shah
for making this possible.
Thank you dear Rotarians for supporting our
fundraising dinner this year. These funds have
gone towards the Gilgil Library project. We
have also received in-kind support from the
Desai Foundation and we are now on course
and look forward to the official hand over to
the Gilgil community.
The 92nd DCA is just two weeks away and I
hope many of us will join fellow Rotarians
from the district in celebrating the work we
have done this year.
Wishing you a great week ahead and see you
at our Club Assembly on Thursday.
Ahsante!
David Githanga
CLUB PRESIDENT, 2016/17
My Fellow Rotarians,
This Rotary Year, where we have been
Serving Humanity, is drawing to a close.
Your support has been unwavering. We
have had an eventful month and I thank all
Rotarians who are spearheading the
different projects in and out of Nairobi.
This weekend, we are in Kisumu for the
Kenya Rural Blindness Eradication Eye
Camp and we are restoring the sight of
more than 250 elderly patients from the
western region. My gratitude to our lead
specialist Dr. Mukesh Joshi and our dear
Rotarians Salim and Nelson who are
coordinating the project. We are grateful to
our senior Rtn. PP Arun Devani and other
donors who have financed this year’s eye
camp.
Our global grant project HAND UP held its
last puppetry training workshop last
weekend. I would like to recognize and
commend the amazing work our visiting
Rtn. Darren Collins from Rotary Club of
De Soto, Kansas has put into making this
project a great success. Over 20000 school
children have been reached, and 6
puppeteers and 160 educators trained on
HIV/AIDS education. I am glad our senior
Rotarian PP Eric Krystal remains engaged
with the club through this project.

Club of Nairobi
History Briefs By PDG Yusuf
The Power of Rotary
The recent Sunshine Rally reminded
me of what happened at the First,
which was held in 1980 when the
Late John Karmali was the President
of the Club and when the Rally was
known as the Rally for Disabled
Children. We all arrived at the
Jamhuri Park, early morning and to
our dismay found that the power
was off. One of our members was
Julius Gecau, boss of KPLC. The
President rang him and he arrived at
the Park and did a few phone calls.
Lo & Behold the power came on!
The Power of Rotary!
Introducing Amadou Chico Cissoko
Dear Rotarians,
It’s with great delight that I present to you Mr. Amadou Chico Cissoko who has been proposed
for membership by Rtn. Nelson Mburu.
Chico hails from Conakry, Guinea and has been visiting our club with the intention of becoming
a member since May 2016. Chico is the current Representative of the Chamber for Trade,
Industry and Crafts of Guinea in Kenya, and is also the Lead Design Driven Entrepreneurship
trainer for the Business & Entrepreneurship Tracks at The YALI East Africa Regional Leadership
Center (Nairobi/Kenya). Chico has had extensive training in business and entrepreneurship with
the most recent being a Design Driven Entrepreneurship trainer certificate from Dartmouth
University & YALI East Africa.
His passion for business and social entrepreneurship led him to start his own consultancy -
Chico’s Innovators & Consultants (Nairobi/Kenya) through which he identifies, improves,
integrates and invests in scalable social innovations, and also mentors, coaches and trains
exceptional social entrepreneurs, innovators and aspiring leaders.
Join us this Thursday, 13th April 2017 as we induct Chico into the membership of Rotary Club
of Nairobi. Let us make him feel at home and share our Rotary journey with him as we seek to
make him a valuable addition to our Rotary family.
