Data Retreival Example #1 Armenians are an ethnic group that originally lived

in the Caucasus Mountains on Turkey’s northern border. They were a Christian minority within the Ottoman Empire. Beginning in 1915, the Ottoman Empire devised a plan to rid the country of the Armenian population. First the Ottomans rounded up Armenian intellectuals and community leaders. Next, the military displaced Armenian families from their homes and forced them to march hundreds of miles out of Turkey without food or water. Overall, due to starvation and brutal executions, up to 1.5 million Armenians were killed.

Example #2 The Tutsis and Hutus are two ethnic groups living in the

African nations of Rwanda and Burundi. Following the assassination of the Rwandan President in 1994, the majority Hutu-led government began a campaign to exterminate the minority Tutsi population. The Hutu government coordinated a campaign for quick and efficient killing. First, they organized units of national and local military to kill Tutsi and moderate Hutu families in their own villages. In addition, the government used mass-media radio broadcasts to urge Hutu civilians to kill their Tutsi neighbors. Over the course of 100 days, approximately 800,000 Tutsi and moderate-Hutus were massacred and as many as 2 million civilians fled the country as refugees.
