The first step of the Scientific Method Define or Identify the purpose/problem

What are you trying to find out?

Educated guess of what you predict is going to happen

If….Then….Because Need Variables to form hypothesis!

All the essential materials used in the lab

Should be bulleted One material listed per line Amounts should be included

Describes the steps you use during an experiment

Step-by-step format Should be numbered One procedure per

line Need diagrams to go

with procedures!

What is being tested in the experiment?OR

What is being Observed?OR

What is being Measured?

Each time you test the dependent variable, what is being changed or manipulated from the last time you tested the dependent variable?

What am I changing? What am I doing? What part am I doing differently?

Part of an experiment that is not being tested and is used for comparison

Variables that do not change are the constant variables

Makes sure the experiment is “fair”

The information collected during an experiment

Can be qualitative (observations)What do you see or observe? (anything with

the senses)Write and draw!

Can be quantitativeNumbersData Tables

Scientists make observations to help them make a hypothesis or collect data during an experiment

What did you see during the lab?

Should have a title Independent Variable in the left column Dependent Variable in the right column Amounts and Units should be included

After the experiment, scientists organize and analyze the data

How did your variables relate to one another?

What does your graph say to you??

Summarizes the results of the experiment

Written after the experiment 4 parts
