MusingsThe Model United Nations was fashioned not only to create confident and outspoken young minds but also to bring awareness among them about globally pertinent and burning issues and instil in them a sense of duty and responsibility. It has been a platform for these bright, young minds to come together in the spirit of diplomacy and multi-culturalism to discuss solutions to the most pressing issues currently affecting our world. VIBGYORMUN 9 was a grand event indeed. The dedication, determination and conscientiousness of the Organising Team is praiseworthy. Their silent yet relentless efforts have contributed in a large measure to make VIBGYORMUN 9 a force to contend with. I extend my heartiest congratulations to all for making it a magnificent success.
Rustom Kerawalla Founder Chairman, VIBGYOR Group of Schools
VIBGYORMUN 9 has been an outstanding event. The presence of an overwhelmingly large number of delegates speaks volumes for the respect and popularity that VIBGYORMUN enjoys. In just nine years, VIBGYORMUN has achieved a stature that attracts globally committed citizens to come and present their opinions to the leaders of tomorrow. These young and very aware citizens of tomorrow have impressed us greatly. These young minds have acquired the ability and skill to thrive and flourish under difficult conditions and discuss, deliberate and resolve issues pressing their world today. It was, at the same time, an honour to have with us respectable and experienced
international guests delivering such timely and appropriate words of encouragement. I extend my appreciation to the students, staff and management of VIBGYOR High as well as the Secretariat, the Executive Board, the delegates and the Organising Committee of VIBGYORMUN 9 for making this magnanimous event such a memorable affair.
Kavita Sahay Vice Chairperson, VIBGYOR Group of Schools
VIBGYORMUN provides a platform for the young minds that helps them evolve into leaders who can be catalysts of change. This year, we had the privilege of having some eminent and learned personalities as our guests - Mr. Erik Solheim, Shri. Aadityaji Thackeray, Mr. Afroz Shah and Mr. Tor Dahlstrom; panellists for 'MUN Ki Baat' - Ms. Priyanka Chaturvedi, Mr. Vismay Shroff, Mr. Rahul Narvekar and Major Bikramjeet Kanwarpal. Their invaluable thoughts and insights concerning various environmental and societal challenges will go a long way in shaping the minds of our delegates. I am pleased with the wonderful work done by the Core Committee of VIBGYORMUN, the Executive Board and the Secretariat. It is their consistent efforts and zeal that has helped this event to be a grand success. My sincere appreciation to the Principals and Heads of participating schools, Colleges and Universities in India and abroad for encouraging and supporting their students to attend this conference. I look forward to these delegates metamorphose into dynamic human beings who can make a difference in our society and the world.

The 9th edition of VIBGYOR Model United Nations was the very epitome of success as it was very interactive, engaging and self-motivating. It has redefined the MUN experience leaving students thirsting for more.
Global issues took the centre stage and each delegate shone like the scintillating gemstones in the crown of VIBGYORMUN 9. They naturally displayed an array of individual brilliance while ensuring goodwill and friendship between people who magnanimously differed in their thinking and outlooks. VIBGYORMUN, since its inception in 2011, has been gaining grounds with an unmatched alacrity. It is not a surprise therefore that VIBGYORMUN has entrenched a prestigious position among the most popular MUNs in the country.
More than 400 enthusiastic delegates from 35 schools and colleges in Mumbai and the rest of the country wholeheartedly and diligently participated in discussing and deliberating over three days. The illustrious and eloquent speakers and the very energetic and interactive panel discussion 'MUN Ki Baat' also grabbed everyone's attention. The introduction of 2 new committees to focus, discuss and debate on international and national issues, 10 fascinating and insightful topics, about 20 hours of intense committee sessions, 20 experienced Secretariat and the Executive Board Members and innovative and exciting developments, all in the warm and hospitable environment of the Hyatt Regency, Andheri (East) culminated in ensuring that VIBGYORMUN 9 became a phenomenon par excellence.
The two new committees, All India Political Parties' Meet (AIPPM) and United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UNW), with their star-studded Chairs and Vice Chairs set new benchmarks in alleviating the seemingly insurmountable issues that threaten our existence. The remarkably experienced and competent Secretariat ensured that the experience of the delegates was exhilarating and at the same time, transformed the flicker of hope to a steady flame to strengthen resolutions related to pressing issues like education, freedom of speech, terrorism and agrarian distress. This consequently reinforced the belief that if responsible minds are given the power to change, then change is inevitable. It is the common man who has to now rise and do the extraordinary to save the world today for the generations to come. Only then can all of us enjoy prosperous and rewarding lives where economic, social and technological progress will occur in harmony with nature.
A memorable MUN indeed!

VIBGYORMUN 9 | Keynote Speakers and Special Guests
On Day 1, one of our chief guests at the Opening Ceremony was a very illustrious personage, Mr. Erik Solheim, who was the Executive Director of the UN Environment programme between May 2016 and November 2018 and has been awarded UN Environment's Champions of the Earth award. He also put into place the Nature Diversity Act which is considered to be one of the most important pieces of environmental legislation. During his speech, delegates gained some crucial insights about the virtues and leadership qualities that one can imbibe from the life of Mahatma Gandhi.
Aaditya Thackeray, the Chairman and President of Yuva Sena, the youth wing of Shiv Sena mesmerised the august audience with his passionate and articulate oration that highlighted the need of the hour to save the environment, past all petty issues of allegiance that keep us far from reaching our potential. He reminisced and shared with our enthusiastic delegates his varied experience of associating with Mr. Solheim and Mr. Afroz during the legendary beach clean-up at Versova. His speech reflected the dynamism that he embodies and his concern for social causes.
Afroz Shah, who has been honoured by none other than the United Nations itself for his role in the largest beach clean-up in the history of human civilization, holds a pre-eminent position in the hearts of all Mumbaikars and especially with Vibgyorites for his enriching association over the past years. His vast experience driving the initiative of increasing awareness of the pollution of the rivers and oceans and other pressing ecological issues unfolded the grim state of affairs that we have put our Mother Earth into with our apathetic disinterest. It also highlighted the hope that is promising in the involvement of young students when they regularly lend a hand cleaning up the mess that our past generations have left us to.
Tor Dahlstrom, Consul – Deputy Head of Mission, Norwegian Consulate and our Chief Guest for the Closing Ceremony, is an icon of resourcefulness. His work with the UN has formally been on trade and development issues at the UN in Geneva. But in Mumbai, he has joined forces with Mr. Afroz Shah in fighting marine pollution, taking up cudgels, especially against plastic. He praised the efforts of Mumbaikars, especially the youth for standing up for the elixir of life that is put at risk through neglect and excessive pollution. Delegates were rejuvenated to rise in a joint effort to clean and preserve the limited sources of fresh water available today.

It was a great event, packed with so much knowledge and great speakers, offering a unique balance between extensive research and applications. VIBGYORMUN 9 offered a compact source of inspiration for infrequent participants.
Ms Aqsa Temrikar (Website Content)
It was an enriching programme on so many levels. It not only helped students build their public speaking, diplomacy and collaborative skills but also gave them an insight into pressing global issues like plastic pollution and global warming. This was done through the knowledgeable and articulate speakers that were carefully chosen. MUN Ki Baat had an impressive set of speakers who were well qualified to speak on the chosen topic. They cited examples about the topic from their own lives and through this they connected with the audience.
Ms Leann Fernandes (Administraon Team)
VIBGYORMUN 9 allowed me to work as the Registrations and Committees head. The work entailed a lot of planning, an eye for detail and proper execution. It was wonderful to work closely with the students from Admin and Security Team and to see them take up greater responsibilities right from the preparation of Registration Kit to the managing of the administration in the various committee sessions. VIBGYOUMUN 9 with its set of challenges taught me the importance of teamwork and helped me grow as an individual as I learnt to be more meticulous.

VIBGYORMUN 10 Calling ….The omega is the alpha every time. Precisely a year from now, we will again provide our dear delegates with VIBGYORMUN 10 - the chance to debate and deliberate on newer topics in newer grounds with rejuvenated enthusiasm. It will be a grandiose event with extended horizons stimulating the minds that will matter the most in future. Already we are in the preparatory stage, conceptualising and planning the next edition so that it makes our delegates hear a new voice which they will slowly recognise as their own, that will keep them company as they stride deeper and deeper into the world, determined to do their little bit which will be of gigantic help to mankind.

VIBGYORMUN has been a game-changer for me. My idea about MUN and my perception of global issues have undergone a metamorphosis. The healthy debates, rigorous research and the new friends that I made are the memories I will cherish forever.
Abhijaya Bapst (Delegate of SC)
The transcendent magnificence of VIBGYORMUN is splendiferous; it is the greatest, most organised and well-managed MUN in Mumbai. I began my MUN journey from VIBGYOR High MUN. VIBGYORMUN stays true to its motto, “Debate, Discuss, Deliberate” and provides a great learning experience to all the delegates participating. It also helps younger delegates to build up confidence, speaking and communication skills and gives an experience of handling responsibility. Overall, it is a great platform which helps in developing the delegates as more diplomatic individuals.
Harsh Mehta (Press Team)
My journey from being a shy first-timer in SOCHUM to the best delegate in SC was quite an eventful journey in which I was supported greatly by my school. VIBGYORMUN was by far, the grandest and the most organised MUN I have ever attended. Debates are also a whole new experience. Honestly speaking, this MUN conference was probably more productive than the actual UN itself.
Kahaan Doshi (Delegate of SC)
Another year and I feel like VIBGYORMUN keeps getting bigger and more engaging. Although now we're VIBGYORMUN and not VHMUN, the experience is still as brilliant as always: cups of coffee all day, running around in mod caucuses and fights to get people to vote for your working paper.

SECRETARIAT
VIBGYORMUN 9 was an amazing experience. I started participating in MUN since its 3rd edition and 6 years later, being a part of the Secretariat was a proud feeling. Loved working with my previous teachers and reliving my childhood memories with my fellow VIBGYORrite EB and Secretariat. I could connect with some amazing people who came in as our chief guests and panellists. These 3 days of the conference have made me grow a lot as an individual. Glad to be a part of the grandest MUN experience ever, glad to be a part of the VIBGYORMUN family.
Ritwik Sinha - Secretariat (Adminstraon and Security Head)
VIBGYORMUN 9 AIPPM was a very special experience both in terms of chairing as well as committee performance as a whole. The delegates of my committee performed phenomenally well despite most of them being first-timers as they had thoroughly researched and were eager to learn. In terms of hospitality, the conference was spectacular at all the fronts. I'm grateful to the Organising Committee and Secretariat of VIBGYORMUN 9 for having me at the conference.
