FLOWCRETE
December, 00 Page 1 of 3
PRODUCTTarget Flowcrete consists of accurately weighed Portland cement, aggregates and chemicaladmixtures. The product is designed to be used as original or repair concrete in situationsrequiring a high-quality concrete with a maximum aggregate size of 10mm (3/8 inch). It maybe mixed to any consistency from stiff plastic to flowing. An air-entraining agent isincorporated in the dry product to produce a concrete having good resistance to freezing andthawing. Shrinkage compensating agents are included to minimize plastic shrinkage. Onrequest, Target Flowcrete based on Type 50 (Type V) cement can be supplied for use inareas requiring sulphate-resistant cement. Target Flowcrete with Silica Fume is also availablefor applications requiring reduced permeabilty.

FLOWCRETE
December, 00 Page 2 of 3USES Target Flowcrete is designed for uses such as the following:
Grouting of keyways or general grouting operations where a maximum aggregatesize of 10mm (3/8 inch) is desirable.Levellng beds with a thickness of 25mm (1 inch) or more.Void fillng where a 10mm (3/8 inch) aggregate is desirable or where the minimumdimension ofthe pour exceeds 25mm (1 inch). For smaller dimensions , use TargetMachine Base Grout, Target Portland Expanding Grout or Target 1118 Grout.Structural repairs and applications requiring a high quality concrete at anyconsistency between stiff plastic and flowing where the quantities involved orplacement conditions make the use of conventional ready-mixed concreteimpractical. On request, silca fume can be included in the mix to give reducedpermeabilty.
PROCEDURES1. Prepare existing concrete surfaces for application of Target Flowcrete by thoroughly
cleaning, using appropriate techniques to remove dirt, oil , laitance, efforescence ordeteriorated concrete.Note: In some cases , such as overlays, levellng beds or repair work, a bondingslurr of Target Fast Set Patching Concrete with a mixture of one part by volume ofTarget Polymer Bonding Agent to two parts by volume of clean water is required.See product literature for Target Polymer Bonding Agent for additional details.Placing of Target Flowcrete over the slurr coat should be completed before theslurr dries and wiin one hour of mixing the slurr.
2. Add clean water to a suitable mixing container. Appropriate mixers include Jiffer orpaddle mixers powered by a 1/2 inch dril , or conventional mortar or concrete mixerswhere batch sizes warrant the use of a larger mixer. Rotating drum mixers aresuitable only if the batch size is 50% to 75% of the nominal capacity of the mixerand the mixer fins are in good condition.
3. Add Target Flowcrete to water with continuous mixing to achieve the requiredconsistency.
4. Mix for not less than 2 minutes. If a mixing period of less than 5 minutes is used, remix before placing.
5. Place and consolidate within 30 minutes of mixing, using methods suited to theapplication and consistency required.
6. Use conventional concrete finishing procedures to obtain the required surface finish. The use of magnesium or Plexiglass trowels has been found to give improvedfinishes to flatwork.
7. Place only at ambient temperatures above 5 C (40 F) and below 30 C (86 F).Protect from freezing and from temperatures above 35 C (95 F) during the first threedays after placing.
Prouct perfornce is affecd by n1any factor. including storage, method and conditions of applicauon and us. . To anchor posts , signs , railngs and other fixtures in concrete or masonry.
COLORSimilar to Portland cement concrete
PROCEDURES1. Prepare the repair areas by chipping, saw-cutting, sandblasting or other
means that wil ensure that deleterious materials are removed. It is alwayspreferable to have a 10mm (0.4 inch) minimum vertical edge where contactbetween new and old concrete occurs. Feather edging is generally notrecommended , except when Target Polymer Bonding Agent is included inthe mix.
2. Remove any dust or loose material from the area to be patched or filled. Thesurface should be thoroughly saturated with water and maintained wet for atleast one hour before fillng operations begin. Remove all free surface waterand allow the surface to become "surface dry just prior to fillng.
3. In smaller patches and joints , bonding agents are generally not necessary. Inlarge patches in slabs or walls the bond strength can be increased by firstscrubbing the area to be filled with a slurry of Target Fast Set PatchingConcrete mixed with a blend of 1 part by volume of Target Polymer BondingAgent to 2 parts by volume of water. The use of Target Polymer BondingAgent wil also give improved resistance to penetration by water and de-icingsalts.
4. Empty Target Fast Set Patching Concrete into a clean wheelbarrow, pail ormixer and add clean water. Alternatively, a blend of 1 part by volume ofTarget Polymer Bonding Agent to 3 parts by volume of water may be used as

the mixing liquid for the repair mix to obtainimproved bonding. This procedure should be used only if a slightly darkercolor of the repair material is acceptable. Mix thoroughly until a stiff plasticconsistency is achieved. (Certain applications may require a dry packconsistency. ) The temperature of the mix should be 10 C to 24 C (50 F to
F).5. Mix only as much material as can be used within 30 minutes after the
addition of mixing liquid.6. Place the repair mix in the prepared area and firmly consolidate. Strike off
level with a trowel or float and wait approximately 10 t015 minutes beforeapplying the final finish.
7. Adequate curing is extremely important. As soon as the concrete hashardened , maintain the patch in a continuously damp condition for not lessthan 24 hours by water spray, ponding, wet burlap or plastic, or use TargetCure & Seal. Protect from temperatures below 5 C (41 F) or above 35(9S F) for at least 72 hours after placing.
CAUTIONTarget Fast Set Patching Concrete is intended for use in a dry pack or stiffplastic consistency in a thickness of up to 75mm (3 inches). Where apourable material is required consult Target Products Ltd.Target Fast Set Patching Concrete is a cement rich material , and while it isformulated for minimum plastic shrinkage, it is not recommended for use inlarge exposed areas with a potential for drying shrinkage cracking. It is not recommended for use under machinery or rails subjected to severerepetitive impact or vibration. Contact your Target representative forinformation on Target grouts for use in these situations.
. Do not apply Target Fast Set Patching Concrete when the surfacetemperature of the area to be repaired is less than 5 0 C (41 F). or more than35 0 C (95 0 F).

PRODUCTTarget Polymer Bonding Agent is a styrene butadiene emulsion polymercontaining special chemical admixtures. It is designed for use as a bondingagent with concrete and cement-based products in interior or exteriorapplications.
Target Polymer Bonding Agent is also designed for use as a polymer modifier inmortars and concretes to develop increased tensile, flexural and bond strengths. The use of Target Polymer Bonding Agent in concretes and shotcretes alsogives significant improvements in resistance to penetration by chlorides and de-icing salts.
After curing, Target Polymer Bonding Agent is not re-emulsifiable.
APPEARANCEWhite, milky liquid
USESTarget Polymer Bonding Agent is designed for uses such as the following:Bonding slurr coats or primers applied to existing concrete before placingoverlays or patches. As an integral component of mixes such as:
Concrete or mortar overlays, patches and levellng coatsShotcrete or guniteBonding mortars such as tile setting mortars.Pointing mortars , stucco and Portland cement plaster.Parge coats for concrete.
PROCEDURESA. BONDING SLURRY FOR REPAIR OF OVEkLAY WORK
1. Prepare existing concrete surfaces by removing all traces of dirt, oilgrease, laitance and loose or deteriorated concrete. Sweep, vacuumclean , or use air jets to remove all loose material.
2. Saturate concrete with water for 24 hours before placing new material.Remove excess water from concrete surfaces before applying bondingslurry. A saturated surface-dry base concrete is ideal.
3. Prepare a bonding slurry by mixing either Target Fast Set PatchingConcrete or a 1: 1 cement: fine sand blend with sufficient diluted Target

Polymer Bonding Agent to give a thick creamy consistency. The dilutedTarget Polymer Bonding Agent should contain 1 part of volume of TargetPolymer Bonding Agent to not more than 2 parts of volume of water.
4. Apply the bonding slurry to the saturated concrete , using a stiff bristlebroom to ensure that the slurry is scrubbed onto the concrete surface andspread to form a layer not more than 3mm (1/8 inch) thick.
5. When mixed as described in Section A3 and applied at a thickness of3mm (1/8 inch) the bonding slurry wil cover approximately 8m
(87tf) perliter (1 US gallon) of undiluted Target Polymer Bonding Agent.
Coverage rates wil vary with the texture of the surface being coated.6. Place the overlay or patching mix over the immediately after applying the
slurry. Protect the slurry from drying before placing the overlay orpatching mix.
7. Use standard moist curing or Target Cure & Seal to prevent drying of theoverlay or patching mix, except in cases where Target Polymer BondingAgent has been used as a component of the overlay or patching mix (seeSection B). NOTE: In some situations , the use of a bonding slurry might not befeasible. Consult Target Products Ltd. for advice on the use of liquidTarget Polymer Bonding Agent in these applications.

the concrete or mortar mix. Recommended dilution ratios are shown inthe table. The dilution ratios given are suitable for most conditions.Where bonding or resistance to salt penetration is critical , consult TargetProducts Ltd. for advice on appropriate procedures.
2. Place the mix within 20 minutes of the start of mixing.3. Avoid over-trowellng. For large areas use metal edged screeds.4. Clean trowels or screeds with water frequently during placing and
finishing.5. Where rapid surface drying caused by air movement or high
temperatures is likely to occur. protect the material from moisture loss byapplying wet burlap or polythene sheeting.
6. Moist curing of mixes containing Target Polymer Bonding Agent is notessential or recommended , except as noted in Section 5 above.
C. POLYMER MODIFIED SHOTCRETE OR GUNITE1, For dry process applications , use a pre-moisturizer to bring the moisture
content of the shotcrete or gunite to approximately 4% by weight. Useundiluted Target Polymer Bonding Agent as the mixing liquid at the waterring
2. For wet process applications based on saturated aggregates, useundiluted Target Polymer Bonding Agent as the mixing liquid. If dryaggregates are used in the mix, add sufficient water to bring the moisturecontent of the mix to approximately 4 % by weight before adding undilutedTarget Polymer Bonding Agent to obtain the required consistency.
CAUTION. DO NOT allow Target Polymer Bonding Agent to freeze.. DO NOT apply mixes containing Target Polymer Bonding Agent at
temperatures below 5 C (41 F) or above 30 C (86 F). Protect fromtemperatures outside this range for at least 3 days after placing.Avoid over-mixing of material containing Target Polymer Bonding Agent orthe use of high-speed mixers , which can entrain excessive quantities of air.
. When used as an integral component of mixes, Target Polymer BondingAgent can cause the color of cured concrete to be slightly darker thanunmodified concrete. Where color is of importance, a test area should beprepared and evaluated.
