Pico Far East Holdings Limited Announced Record High Turnover and Profit in FY 2010
Pico Launches VISION 2020
2
Pico Far East Holdings Limited announced its
annual results on 25 January 2011. During
the Year, Pico has delivered a record performance
despite continued uncertainty in the global
economy. The Group’s turnover reaches
HK$3.075 billion, representing an increase
of 38% compared with the previous year.
Profit attributable to owners of the Company
increased by 55% to HK$192 million.
Mr. Lawrence Chia, Chairman of Pico, said
“With our strong foundation in Asia, in particular
China, the Group has ended the financial year
on a positive note with significant growth
across all of our business segments. Highlight
of the year has been our completion of the
Shanghai World Expo 2010 which contributed
about 20% to the overall Group’s turnover.”
Chairman Chia added, “In Asia, the engine of
growth is still China. Therefore, the Chinese
economy is an important factor in the continued
growth of the Group’s business. We believe
that our business in China, while large in relation
to our total turnover, is still small relative to the
size and potential of the China market. We are
confident of the strong potential of the enormous
exhibition and event business in China as the
huge latent consumer market has only just
started to be developed. In addition, the Group
continues to strengthen our position in the
Middle East and India.
We believe that the exhibition and brand
activation prospects will remain resilient in the
short term in spite of current difficult global
economic conditions, and that the long-term
prognosis remains positive. I would like to
thank our loyal clients, our shareholders and all
our staff for their effort and commitment and
for contributing to this year’s strong results.”
Pico and Montgomery Worldwide Sri Lankan JV
Two of the leading names in the global trade fair business, Pico Global
and Montgomery Worldwide, are to work in partnership, organising
a series of international trade exhibitions to internationalise the local
exhibition industry and serve Sri Lanka’s rapidly modernising economy.
Having staged its first exhibition for the construction industry in London
in 1895, Montgomery remains amongst the world’s oldest established
specialist multi-national exhibition organisers. Between 1970-1980, the
company pioneered specialist trade shows for many rapidly emerging
economies across Asia and the Middle East.
Said Montgomery Chairman, Sandy Angus: “We have carefully monitored
recent developments in Sri Lanka and seen solid growth and strong
potential everywhere we’ve looked. The many infrastructure projects
the country plans will benefit not only our industry, but also some
21,000,000 Sri Lankan people.”
Echoing Mr. Angus’s confidence, Executive Director Pico Sri Lanka, Shanti
Outschoorn said: “In providing a perfect B2B platform, our joint exhibitions
will help accelerate Sri Lanka’s development. I and my colleagues are
both proud and privileged to help in this nation building process”.
The Pico and Montgomery joint venture is already working on hosting a
series of exhibitions at Colombo’s Sri Lanka Exhibition & Convention Centre.

Appointed as the event’s Official Venue Infrastructure Overlay Sponsor,
Pico recently helped Singapore to construct the Main Media Centre for
the first ever 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG). Our team also provided
design consultancy for the content and exhibition of the first YOG
Learning Centre, Torch Relay Consultancy, Village Square and Official
Merchandise stores at Orchard Road. The sponsorship arrangement
additionally called for the design of a parts kit for venue dressing plus
the provision of informational icons for Games-time signage. Other duties

China Mobile, Taiwan Beer and Wang Lao Ji Drinks at Guangzhou Asian Games
Held in Guangzhou last year, the 16th Asian Games boasted a size and scale unprecedented in the quadrennial event’s 59-year history. In all, over
10,000 athletes from 45 countries across the region competed for medals in a record 42 sports ranging from Archery to Chess.
Renowned brands like China Mobile, Taiwan Beer and JDB Group appointed Pico to showcase their best at this spectacular event. The Games’ 6th
Prestige Partner, China Mobile appointed our team to create a 456 sq. m. main pavilion at Tianhe Sports Centre and two other experiential points
inside the Garden Hotel and outdoor at the Guangdong Olympic Aquatic Centre.
Taiwanese cultural icon, Taiwan Beer, took its first step into the massive Mainland China market by becoming the 2010 Games’ Official Beer. To this
end, we specially designed a pavilion which showcased three of the brand’s key features: Foam splashing over the rim of a glass; cool, golden beer
and one of the brewery’s trademark green bottles. Inside the pavilion itself, our designers created an impactful beer mug handle-shaped information
counter to add more fun for attendees. They also leveraged multi-coloured LED lights and a large glass wall to both catch visitors’ eyes and minimise
energy consumption.
The JDB Group is a large Hong Kong-based enterprise which specialises in beverages. In creating this brand’s stand, our team provided a one-stop
service covering everything from conceptual definition, design, fabrication and operation management to dismantling. Creative high technology
displays employed included a simulated snowfield and multi-point touch screen.
Our professionalism was also involved in assisting the Guangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee in developing and applying the event’s look
program across numerous areas during the pre-qualification period.

included establishing a competition venue at Marina Reservoir and stage
set ups for both the opening and closing ceremonies.
A striking two-storey facility, the Learning Centre encourages visitors to
not only experience Olympic values but also trace Singapore’s journey in
winning the bid to host the first ever YOG.
Specific tasks here involved the design and construction of a huge
hydraulic bridge operated via a first-of-its-kind customised lift capable
of reaching 24m in 12 seconds. Pico also helped construct a 33m-high
Opening Torch cauldron with an enclosed glass façade plus and reflective
pool on a floating pontoon. A unique thematic gallery portraying the
story of Singapore at the YOG village square plus precision design and
deployment of 3,000 signs across 33 venues were other tasks our team
completed within this job’s remarkably short timeframe.
Our teams were also heavily involved in venue design, creating a
competition venue for canoe/rowing in an inaccessible piece of land
in Marina Reservoir. To this end, they not only anchored a competition
pontoon inside the reservoir but also constructed a two-storey office
on a pontoon within a safe working load.

XIX Commonwealth Games 2010Held in Delhi last October, the XIX Commonwealth Games attracted
some 6,081 athletes from 71 Commonwealth nations and dependencies.
Its 21 sports and 272 events easily made it one of 2010’s biggest sporting
extravaganzas.
The Organising Committee of Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi
(OCCGD) appointed a Pico-led consortium as Overlays Provider. As such,
we were responsible for the supply, installation, testing, commissioning,
operation, maintenance, de-commissioning and removal of all cluster
1 and 6 overlays. Specific areas covered included tents, marquees,
prefabricated units, portable toilets, containers, security fences and
wooden/metal structures. Our teams also looked after furniture, public
display LED boards, floor finishes, material handling equipment, generator
sets, cabling, UPSs, aircons, lighting, civil construction, grandstand seating,
golf carts, reefer, partitions and floorings, etc.

2nd Asian Beach Games
IMAGEMAKER // SPRING 20114
A modern multi-sport event developed by the Olympic Council of Asia,
the second biennial Asian Beach Games (ABG) recently took place at
Al-Musannah Sports City in Muscat, Oman. Pico was responsible for the
supply of overlays and temporary structure as well as overall development
at the event.
In all, the games featured athletes from some 45 Asian nations
participating in 52 events including 14 kinds of traditional and more
modern beach or water-sports. The specially constructed playing venues
and facilities for each event included Pico-supplied stands accommodating
between 6,000 and 7,000 fans.
ABG’s ultimate aim is to encourage Asian youth to celebrate the region’s
cultural diversity by coming together in sport. In doing so, they not only
strive to uplift national pride but also create a festival of co-operation
and camaraderie.

12 Tier-1 Motorola Outlet Re-brandTelecom giant Motorola is shortly to split up its operations. To
streamline the changeover, Pico was recently commissioned to
design, produce and install re-branding at 12 Motorola facilities/
locations across North America.
The key challenge here involved the simultaneous installation
of over 400 individual branding elements in all 12 locations
over just one three-day weekend. Ultimately, the entire design
to installation phase took less than six weeks! Motorola were
delighted how quickly and well we were able to work with
their CMO and Global Brand Management team and develop
their new look and feel.

Bacardi-Martini Museum Botanical RoomsOnce humble cellars in Martini & Rossi’s factory, near Turin, Italy, these
beautiful 18th century rooms are ideal showcases for Egyptian amphorae,
roman glassware, hand-carved grape harvest carts and wine presses.
The exhibition’s ultimate aim is to guide visitors through the many
fascinating moments of wine making’s two-millennia-long history. The
biggest challenge was to accomplish all this while Martini continued to
use the Pessione complex as its blending and bottling plant.
Working with various creative partners, Pico was commissioned to
transform an area of the museum into a permanent presentation and
tasting space. Mandatory requirements included its future usability as
a presentation area by the Bacardi/Martini Sales and Marketing team’s
Beautiful Drink and Sparkling Wine training programmes.
“…Pico’s quality in delivering a showcase the client can be - and are -
proud of was absolutely excellent.” – Graeme Strachan, DrinkWorks

At last year’s Singapore F1 Grand Prix, Pico provided turnkey services
from creative concept, design and building to collaterals design and
production. Our other responsibilities here included RSVP, transportation and
hospitality suite program management for the Philip Morris M Lounge.
Over the three days it was open, the facility welcomed a total of 480
exclusive trade and consumer guests.
Our team’s additional key roles included ensuring a 5-star reception for
guests arriving at Philip Morris’s exclusive F1 Paddock Club. In addition
to design and outfitting, specific duties here included guest management
and operations. As passes were in short supply for the two locations
and three days, manpower was very limited and tightly knit well
planned co-ordination was essential.
One of the Lounge’s core requirement was a special indoor smokers’
room - a first for the Singapore Grand Prix. As the space provided
was never intended for smoking and actually had features in place to
prevent people from lighting up, ensuring the comfort of the majority
of non-smoking areas was hugely challenging.

Our teams were also involved in customising a comprehensive ‘goodie
bag’ including invitation cards and assorted freebies for attendees. Its
impact and exclusivity was further heightened by a personalised delivery
and RSVP process.

World Boutique 2011World Boutique 2011 spotted out the fashion trend of
every season. Hong Kong Fashion Extravaganza is one of
international fashion show. Every year, Hong Kong Trade
Development Council will invite various fashion brands
and designer to participate. This year, Keita Maruyama
from Japan, Doii Lee from Korea, Alex Wang from Beijing
China and Barney Cheng from Hong Kong were presented.
Other than construction of the setting, Pico was also
responsible for the model sequence, lighting and audio-
visual effects, fitting preparation, and even scouting for
the special performance of the entire function.

Hong Kong National Geopark Visitor Centre
While only measuring an ultra-compact 160-sq. m., Hong Kong National Geopark’s Visitor Centre for must provide a fascinating overview of the
Territory’s entire geological environment. In doing so, it is also required to encourage a greater interest in earth sciences and raise people’s awareness
of the need to preserve our geological heritage. Although initially opened in December 2009, 2010 saw the centre undergo a period of fine-tuning
before its re-opening last September.
In enhancing the facility, Pico was appointed to supply and install all graphics and interactive games machines both at Lions Nature Education
Centre and Geopark itself.
To maximise interest and awareness, our teams created an experiential educational path which lead visitors through various local geographical
landscapes. In addition to creating lifelike props, we also whetted visitors’ curiosity with colourful displays and ingeniously placed artefacts.

Hong Kong EcoPark Visitor Centre
Hong Kong’s Environmental Protection Department (EPD) public relations
and educational spearhead, the 1,000-sq. m. EcoPark Visitor Centre is
the territory’s first ever solid waste management showcase.
In appointing Pico to design and build the centre, EPD commissioned
nine different galleries with ceiling heights of between 2,500mm and
6,000mm. The facility also had to be big enough to accommodate 40
people at a time and sufficiently interesting to fully occupy attendees on
guided tours lasting up to 75 minutes.
Equipped with engaging, radio-frequency identification- (RFID-) enabled
exhibits such as life-size landfill diorama covering 148 sq. m., this is
probably Asia’s largest indoor landfill exhibit. Its interactive multimedia
exhibits, games and video presentations ultimately not only enhance
visitors’ awareness of environmental protection but also their under-
standing of municipal solid waste management. The primary aim is for
everyone to go home eager to live the 3R values of “reduce”, “reuse”
and “recycle”.
Local school teachers whose classes have visited the Centre were among
the many who phoned in expressing their gratitude for its positive impact
on their students’ environmental commitment.

Taiwan External Trade Development Council
Taiwan External Trade Development Council
(TAITRA) recently appointed Pico to handle
booth designs for not only PV Taiwan and
Food Taipei 2010, but also Foodex Japan.
Our teams also worked closely with TAITRA
at the 18th International Plastics and Rubber
Trade Fair and its recent series of Asiawide
Taiwanese Excellence expos.
Held every year, PV Taiwan brings the world’s
top solar companies to Taiwan. Our team’s
responsibilities here included the overall shell
scheme and public area decorations. We also
helped provide special designs for leading
exhibitors such as Ferro, SAP Solar, Staubli,
SVCS and long-term Pico partners, Oerlikon
and Sellingware.
Our designers’ expertise was equally apparent
at Food Taipei 2010. This time around, we
provided around 800 sq. m. of special multi-
dimensional designs for six national pavilions
and two commercial clients. Among them
were, Spain, France, Thailand, the Philippines,
Brazil, Macau, H&C Food Industrial and
Gourmet’s Partner.
The importance TAITRA places on promoting
Taiwan overseas can be seen from its involvement
in the Taiwanese Pavilion at Foodex Japan
2010. To maximise awareness, Pico chose
traditional architecture from southern Taiwanese
gourmet hub Tainan as its design motif. With
its inimitable red brick and earthenware
eaves, the final design greatly enhanced the
image of Taiwanese food for all who were
attracted to venture inside.
Taiwanese industries were also busy at the
national Pavilion at the 18th International
Plastics and Rubber Trade Fair or K Show in
Dussledorf.
In promoting Taiwan’s image, we chose a
contrasting black and orange colour scheme
to encourage visitors to check out the growing
strength of Taiwanese industries.
Last but not least was TAITRA’s six month-long
series of Taiwan Excellence projects across
four increasingly important cities in markets
such as Vietnam, Indonesia and India. In echoing
the events’ high-tech aims, Pico’s booth
outline was not only neat and dynamic but
also elegant enough to draw shoppers’ eyes
in malls.
