Hutt Central School Newsletter No 1 Term 4 15th October - 19th October 2018
Kia ora tatou,
Welcome back for Term 4! It is great to see everyone return to school for our last term of 2018 and
it promises to be action packed!
Shake Out
Today we joined the nation in a Shake Out to remind ourselves about what we do in an earthquake.
It was great to see how ‘automatic’ our students’ response is when asked to drop cover and hold!
Gala
We can confirm the final profit from our Twilight Gala on 21 September is $15,289.51. This will be
put towards our fund to provide safer matting under our playgrounds to keep our children safe.
Thank you for sharing the learning that we carried out last term and supporting the gala.
Firewood and Mulch
We have had the trees on the field ‘topped’ over the holidays. As a result we have firewood and
mulch which we are offering to our community for a donation. Please let the office know if you would
like to collect firewood and Mulch and we will contact you to organise pick up.
Sunhats
All students need to wear a hat at school for Term 4. Can you please ensure that your child has a
bucket hat, full brimmed hat or legionnaires hat to wear outside everyday. Students who do not
have a hat will be restricted to shady areas. We will have school hats available at the school office to
purchase for $15.00 each.

Kura Ahurea
Hutt Central School continues to work on the pilot of the ‘Kura Ahurea’ programme. The focus for
this term will be on introducing ourselves by name and where we live: Ko….(name)....au (I am….)
and ‘No…..(name of where you live).....au’ (I am from….).
The focus legend for this term will be about Tane and his three kete of knowledge.
We welcome all family members in joining us to learn and to use Te Reo.
Safety at drop off and pick up times
I have noticed and had reported a number of near misses at and around the main entrance to our
school and carpark. On Wednesday this week, one car backed out of our driveway and narrowly
missed hitting one of our children who was on their scooter.
Please aim to park on Victoria Street or Te Mome Road area and walk into school to pick up / drop
off your children. We all need to work together to keep our children safe and our carpark is not a
place to pick up and drop off your children.
Please ensure that you help your children to use the designated crossings when crossing Victoria
Street, Hutt Road and Railway Ave. This will support the messages we are working on with your
children about keeping themselves and others safe.
Please help your children to walk their bikes and scooters in the school grounds from 8:15 to
8:55am and 3:00pm to 3:30pm.
Reminder:
Monday 22 October is Labour Day and the school will be closed.

Signmee
There has been a great response to Signmee so far but some of you are missing out on information
and opportunities because you haven't completed the signup information.
If you need help to do this please talk to your child’s teacher or someone at the
school office.
It is important to read the notices carefully and ensure you sign them, and clicking
on the other information if it asks for it. e.g parent help, approval etc. The
system allows us to see who has viewed the information, and we have noticed
that in some cases the notices are being viewed but not signed.
Please make sure you see the red ‘signed’ stamp at the bottom before you log out.
Tennis Tournament
Congratulations to Ethan Nash, Nikhil Choudhury, Alex Thorn and Ethan
Brabant who represented Hutt Central School today.
