Trip costs and reductions:

Highlights:

Saturday, 24 December: Depart USA on an overnight flight to Israel

Sunday, 25 December: Entering the Land. Arrive in Israel to be met and assisted by your ITC representative. Check-in at the Dan Panorama Hotel on Tel Aviv's Mediterranean Coast. Welcome dinner at Maganda Restaurant in Tel Aviv's Yemenite Quarter.

Monday, 26 December: The Hebrew City and the Jewish State. Relive the moment when David Ben Gurion declared the new State of Israel at Independence Hall. Visit the Palmach Museum for a multimedia presentation about the elite underground army that played a critical role in the 1948 war. Travel to Rehovot for a guided tour of the Ayalon Institute, the clandestine bullet factory used by the Jewish underground before the founding of the State of Israel. Continue to neighboring Rishon Lezion to meet new immigrants from Ethiopia, with whom we will share a light, early dinner. Free evening.

Tuesday, 27 December: The North. We head up the Mediterranean coast to Kibbutz Ein Shemer to experience early Zionist pioneering and kibbutz life. Tour the ruins of Caesarea, including its Roman Theater, Amphitheater, Hippodrome and Promontory Palace. In Haifa we will visit the Leo Baeck Educational Center, one of Israel's leading schools, to meet students of diverse Jewish, Christian and Muslim background, and drive by the ornate Bahai Gardens. Check-in to the Kibbutz Lavi Hotel in the Galilee. Dinner at the hotel.

Wednesday, 28 December: More North. Drive north to the Galilee Panhandle. Look out over surrounding region from above the Manara Cliffs (where we‛ll ride on a zip line!), including views into Lebanon and across the Hula Valley to the Golan Heights. IDF Colonel (ret.) Kobi Marom will share with us his expert perspective as he guides us along the Lebanese border and hosts us in his restaurant, Charolais, which has amazing and strategic views of the region. After lunch with “lone soldiers” (new immigrant soldiers with no family in Israel), an afternoon jeep tour in the Golan Heights for a special understanding of Israel's complex geopolitics. Visiting former Syrian bunkers overlooking pre-'67 Israel puts a lot in perspective. If time permits, a quick visit to Tiberias to shop and wander its lakeside promenade. Dinner at hotel.

Thursday, 29 December: Agriculture, Roman Ruins, Falafel and Jerusalem. A visit to Kibbutz Sde Eliahu, a world leader in biological pest control, to learn about organic agriculture. Onto the stunning ruins of Beit Shean, before lunch in Afula, the Falafel capital of Israel. Heading south on the Trans Israel Highway, we‛ll view and discuss Israel's Security Fence. After a special welcome ceremony at the Haas Promenade overlooking the Old City, we check into the Dan Panorama Hotel. Free evening.

Friday, 30 December: Holocaust, Remembrance and Continuity. We begin at the Mt. Herzl Cemetery, where many of Israel's prime ministers and soldiers are buried, as well as Theodore Herzl. Onto a tour of Yad Vashem, including the Historical Museum and Children‛s Memorial. (An alternate program, likely a visit to the Jerusalem Zoo, will be provided for younger children.) For lunch we explore the raucous Machane Yehuda Market and take in a slice of local life as Jerusalemites prepare for Shabbat. Then free time to relax and prepare for Shabbat. We welcome Shabbat together at the Western Wall. For Shabbat dinner we will be hosted, as families, by Jerusalem families, with Shabbat blessings, stories and songs.

Saturday, 31 December: And on the Seventh Day. Shabbat morning services together overlooking the Old City, an opportunity for all who wish to read Torah in this most sacred city. After a light Kiddush, enjoy the remainder of the day and a free eveninga great time to explore Old City's Arab market on one‛s own. The guide and hostess will have lots of wonderful suggestions on fun things to do.

Sunday, 1 January: Masada and the Dead Sea…Freedom Fighters or Fanatics? Setting out across the Judean Desert we ascend Masada by cable car (the option of hiking up Snake Path) to tour the ruins of Herod's palace and hear the story of the Zealots' stand against the Romans 2,000 years ago. Then, a swim in the Dead Sea at a local resort, followed by lunch. (Massage and spa treatments available by prior reservation!) We stop off at "Abraham's Tent" for a Camel ride and a biblical hospitality dinner accompanied by a drum circle, before returning to Jerusalem.

Monday, 2 January: The Old City of Jerusalem. We tour 2,700 years of history in the Jewish Quarter, from the First Temple period to modern times, including the Cardo, Broad Wall and Rooftops. Then we head “down” to the Western Wall Tunnels A maze of subterranean passages beneath the Old City. Lunch on our own, and an afternoon free to explore, relax, pack and get in last minute shopping. Farewell Dinner at Black Restaurant. Transfer, sadly, to Ben Gurion Airport for the flight home.
