2018 CCBF Golden Pinwheel Young Illustrators Competition
China Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair (CCBF)
——the only book fair fully dedicated to books and other content for children aged from 0 to 16 in Asia Pacific
The first CCBF was held in 2013 under the guidance of State
Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, and co-
organised by Shanghai Press & Publication Administration, China Education
Publishing & Media Group Ltd., and China Universal Press & Publication Co.,
Ltd. After five successful editions, CCBF has quickly become an important
event for the global publishing industry. CCBF 2018 will take place from 9th to
11th November at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Centre.
CCBF 2017 brought together estimably 300 exhibitors from many
professional backgrounds. Over 30,000 people participated in the three-day
event. Participants include illustrators, designers, publishing houses and
agencies, authors, literary agents, translators, content developers, packagers,
printers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers, education and training institutions,
cultural institutions, etc.

The Golden Pinwheel Young Illustrators Competition is an international
art contest organised by the China Shanghai International Children’s
Book Fair (CCBF). Officially supported by the Shanghai Press and
Publication Administration, it is one of the most important events of
CCBF.
Established in 2015, the competition is committed to providing a venue
for emerging illustrators to showcase their talent and promoting exchange
and cooperation between illustrators and publishers, both domestically
and globally. It has given fresh life to China’s children’s book industry.
Thanks to the support of various international illustrator associations,
in 2017 the competition received 778 entries from 37 countries and
regions, which translated into 3,655 creative and high-quality illustrations.

A selection of the best 50 artists will be established by five international judges. Their work will be exhibited at the Golden
Pinwheel Young Illustration Showcase where publishing professionals and children's book enthusiasts will be able to enjoy them
during all the duration of the book fair.
The exhibition will take place in the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Centre on 9-11 November 2018.

The 50 finalists’ artworks and contact
information will be featured in the 2018 Golden
Pinwheel Illustration Yearbook. It will be
recommended to global children publishing
professionals.

The visual identity of 2018 CCBF was created by
Zhang Fan, a winner of 2017 Golden Pinwheel Grand
Award (China).
Inspired by the flying kid in his work “Self-portrait”,
Zhang Fan presented a powerful and unstrained inner
world of children. The elements in his work such as
gigantic horses, flying kid and the step to the moon,
are matched to CCBF’s concept – embrace the future.

to be a designer of 2019 CCBF’s visual identity

To compete, illustrators must be between 16 and 39 years of age (born between 1 January 1979 and 31
December 2002).
Regardless of their nationality, professional illustrators, art school students, and other amateur
illustration enthusiasts can enter the competition free of charge.
Entries can be made as an individual, school, association or other third-party organisations.
