Dream of GossTotal Rewards caught up with the most charming singer at Caesars Palace, Matt Goss.
Yes. I always dreamed of performing in Las Vegas. I grew up singing standards with my grandfather, Harry. He had a beautifulvoice. Together we sang songs by classic crooners. I could see how happy singing those songs made my grandfather, so I’ve always had a love of those soulful standards. I’m very proud to be at Caesars Palace. And I like to keep my show classy. My mom always said, “Civility costs nothing.” (The quote is even tattooed on Goss’ arm.)

Rest Hard to Play Hard
Take a relaxing shower. Showers can work wonders. If you’re in Biloxi, visit Bellissimo’s unique Vichy room, which turns warm water into an art form. The “Bellissimo Signature Shower ” uses showerheads to soothe chakra points and includes a 25–minute massage.
Try some happy scents. Relaxing scents help your mind unclench. For the ultimate nap, spray lavender on the bedsheets. Or trust the professionals. Bellissimo goes beyond traditional aromatherapy: They use aromatic mud containing black magma in their “Renew” body wrap.
Get a massage. This one’s easy. Most casinos have a spa where you can get massages—and in some locations, you can get those services in your room. For an extra jolt of mellow, have the massage therapist provide a hot stone massage.
Have some “me” time. Low-key prep time can recharge your energy for the night ahead. Try a facial mask—your ticket to bliss. Need help? Let a spa do the heavy work. You just sit and plan the night’s adventures.
Want to enjoy your late nights? Pre-game with relaxation.
The secret to a fun night is a mellow afternoon. We asked Bellissimo Spa & Salon at Harrah’s Gulf Coast for their advice on daytime downtime. EATING DINNER WITH SINATRA, WATCHING LAS VEGAS TRANSFORM, AND BEING ON STAGE AT THE CLASSIEST CASINO ON THE STRIP.By Wayne Newton
The construction of Caesars Palace was an amazing thing to witness. I literally was there from the begin-
ning—right across the street, headlining at Flamingo Las Vegas. I was in my early twenties, and I’d never seen anything like it. It felt like I was watching them erect the Taj Mahal in India. There were only a handful of hotels on the Strip at the time, and Caesars Palace was mammoth by comparison. What hit me the most was how its look perfectly captured the days of the Roman Empire.
Total Rewards10
And once it opened, in August 1966, Caesars Palace became the hotel on the Strip. It was truly the city’s pièce de résistance, the place you started and ended the evening. I first performed there in 1982, and when you said you worked Caesars Palace, that’s all you had to say. It meant you’d reached the pinnacle of being a performer, that you were a star. If you worked Caesars, you were it.
Everything at Caesars Palace was state of the art, from the lighting to the sound. We had rain curtains, we had floors that lit
up from beneath. If you thought it, you could do it. And the casino drew a higher clientele. It was true class, all the way.
Fifty years later, I’m back across the street from Caesars Palace, this time with a residency at the Windows Showroom at Bally’s Las Vegas called Wayne Newton: Up Close and Personal. I would not recognize this Caesars Palace as the same place that I saw open all those years ago. Back then, it was a single building with those famous fountains in front. Today, the casino has expanded so greatly that it’s like a city unto itself.
My show captures the spirit of those early days—it’s a step back in time. It’s more intimate, designed to make the audience part of the show. If they want to request a song or ask a question, they can. The first question I always get is about my relationship to the Rat Pack. I show the crowd clips of perfor-mances I did over the years with Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, and tell them the behind-the-scenes stories. Like how Dean never showed up for rehearsals, even for television shows.
There’s a story I tell on stage about Sinatra, from the period in the late 1970s when he was headlining Caesars Palace. I’d known Frank, but we were never really close. Then one night, I was performing at the Sands and, between

shows, I got a call. My aide picked up the phone, and he turned pale. He said, “This guy on the phone says he’s Frank Sinatra.”
So I picked up the phone: “Wayne, this is Frank.” I was sure it was one of the Vegas impressionists trying to put me on. He said, “I’m having a dinner tomorrow night after my shows at Caesars. I wanted to invite you to join us.” And I said—again, thinking for sure that it was not Frank Sinatra—“How many people are you expecting?” He said, “We’re probably going to have about 20 people.” And I replied, rather rudely, “Why don’t you call me when there are less people?” There was a pause, and he said, “Okay,” and just hung up.
The next night, the phone rang around the same time. The same guy picked up and said, “It’s Frank Sinatra again.” I was sure that it wasn’t Frank—until I picked up the phone and he referred to me by a colorful nickname he’d given me at a fundraiser years earlier. Then I knew it was for real. “I’m inviting you to dinner tomorrow night, with just me and my wife,” Frank said. “Does that feel like few enough people for you?” I started to laugh and explained why I’d been so rude before. Then Frank started to laugh, and from that point on we became very close friends.
I have lots of great memories like that from all my years in Vegas. I’ve witnessed so many changes since I first moved here in 1959. And Caesars Palace was a huge influence on what Vegas has become. I think it was the first hotel that leased space to outside shops and restau-rants, so it had a variety of high-end options. After that, the Vegas casinos realized that they were going to have to create that sort of atmo-sphere to draw people in. Caesars Palace is still a class place, ranking up there with the best of them. And I expect the casino will only grow better, and more iconic, over the next 50 years.
Years ago, when I’d be on the road, people would say, “You live in Vegas?” I said then, and I say now, “Where in the world could you go to find that level of entertainment? That level of dining? That level of shopping?” Plus 20 minutes in one direction you’ve got Lake Mead, one of the largest man-made lakes in the West-ern Hemisphere, and less than an hour away in the other direction you can go skiing in the wintertime. Where would you go to find all of that? There’s only one place. Nothing compares to Las Vegas, and Caesars Palace remains the center of it all.

UPGRADE!TOTAL REWARDS HAS OFFICIALLY UPPED THE HOTEL GAME ACROSS THE ENTERPRISE. HERE’S WHAT THE HOST OF ENHANCEMENTS MEAN FOR YOU AND YOUR STAY.
HERE’SYOUR
15TotalRewards.com
s Caesars Palace, the gold standard of hotel casinos on the Las Vegas Strip, celebrates half a century of operation, Caesars Entertainment has geared up for centuries more. How? By upgrading more than 5,700 hotel rooms at eight Total Rewards destinations across the country. The massive project, which affects 20% of total rooms in Las Vegas and 15% of total rooms across the company, will elevate your experience.
Accommodations have been enhanced at Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, Paris Las Vegas, Harrah’s Las Vegas, The LINQ Hotel & Casino, Caesars Atlantic City, Horseshoe Tunica and Harrah’s Gulf Coast. While renovations have varied at each destination, all have modern improvements including new (and fun) beds, lavish baths and improved tech amenities.
Comfort and ConvenienceStay at any of these Total Rewards hotels and you’ll notice some big changes in the convenience category. For starters, check-in has gotten crazy fast at Caesars Palace, The LINQ Hotel & Casino and the Flamingo Las Vegas, thanks to new self check-in kiosks. “Caesars Entertainment is the first in Las Vegas to have a true omni-channel check-in experience where guests may use a combination of email, web, text, app and kiosk to check in,” explains Bob Morse, president of hospitality at Caesars Entertainment. “This new service offers the flexibility and easy access needed to personalize the hotel experience for all guests.”
Whenever you do get to your room, you’ll be wel-comed by amazing room enhancements, including bunk bed rooms at The LINQ Hotel & Casino, celebrity-inspired rooms and suites at Planet Hollywood, and luxurious offerings at Caesars Palace. “Our properties offer a comprehensive experience. From the room offerings to celebrity chefs and world-renowned entertainment, the options are endless,” says Morse.
No matter where you stay, there’s a good chance the bed will be very comfortable. The revamped guest rooms in the Julius Tower (formerly the Roman Tower) at Caesars Palace have luxurious Beautyrest Bouvet Island mattresses, each affixed with a custom-upholstered headboard with mirrored panels.

Each room at Caesars Palace has a specially curated minibar with top-shelf liquors to give you the tools to become a nightcap king. Rooms at Harrah’s Las Vegas have plush new California king and queen pillow-top beds with custom headboards and ambient lighting.
At Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, it’s all about acting like an A-lister—and sleeping like one. Each new suite offers award–worthy comfort in the shape of “retro round” sleeping beds and hanging daybeds. If you’re traveling with a crew, The LINQ Hotel & Casino offers the most bang for your buck, with 12 new bunk-bed rooms. Plus, sleepovers are fun.
Refresh YourselfThe baths, showers and vanities have been upgraded across the Total Rewards empire—key elements for primping for and unwinding from your fun on the floor.
The suites at Mississippi’s Harrah’s Gulf Coast offer impressive master bathrooms with marble features, oversize showerheads and illuminated vanity mirrors. “We focused on new mirrors and showers, a backlit vanity and Jacuzzis in all of the suites,” says Jonathan Jones, general manager at Harrah’s Gulf Coast. The six-foot-by-six-foot double Jacuzzis seat two guests for those truly special moments in the parlor, execu-tive suites and penthouses.
Similarly, Planet Hollywood’s marble and glass bathrooms come with oversize soaking tubs. And in Caesars Palace’s brand-new Julius Tower, guests will enjoy stone and glass baths with handheld showerheads and double–sink vanities.
“There’s an upgrade in comfort and luxury that offers any guest renewed refreshment to get back out into the lobby and casino to enjoy an improved experience throughout the hotel,” says Morse.
On the Cutting Edge“Our goal is to deliver the highest quality, cutting-edge room accommodations for all our guests across the country,” Morse explains. Goal achieved! Rooms at the Las Vegas properties are stocked with massive 50-inch flat-screen TVs, LED lighting, charging stations and sustainable furnishings. And the Julius Tower at Caesars Palace boasts brand-new work stations and even electrical outlets in the headboards.
With all these advancements, the heritage of each brand still stands. Harrah’s Gulf Coast, Caesars Atlantic City and Horseshoe Tunica all have fresh room designs and modern wall coverings, and in-clude the familiar brand look and feel. “When guests visit [Harrah’s Gulf Coast], they’ll be comforted and invigorated by Harrah’s familiar purple colors, but they’ll also notice a much more modern design to every room, suite and corridor,” says Jones. “And Tunica received similar treatment!”
The Total Rewards network will serve you well. So what are you waiting for? Get out there!
