Claston Sunanon is the Director of Fuels, Power Marketing, Contracts & Settlement for the Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC—The Reliable One), the 14th largest public power utility in the United States. Sunanon is an accomplished and goal oriented Senior Professional with over 37 years of experience in the Utility Industry with progressive leadership roles in Engineering, Generation Portfolio Planning, Generation Optimization, Operations, Transmission and Distribution, Fuel Supply and Logistics, Power Marketing and Renewables. His excellent strategic leadership, communications, negotiations, motivational and interpersonal skills have allowed him to build positive relationships and strategic alliances at all levels of the industry.

Sunanon currently serves on the Board of Directors for Florida Municipal Power Agency, Florida Gas Utility and The Eastern Fuel Buyers Conference.

Jan C. Aspuru is the Chief Operating Officer for the Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC—The Reliable One), the 14th largest public power utility in the United States. He is responsible for all electric, water, chilled water and lighting operations.

Prior to assuming the COO role, Aspuru served as Vice President of Electric and Water Production, overseeing power production, water production, chilled water services, fuel services and wholesale power marketing.

Aspuru has extensive experience in engineering, construction and operations of fossil and renewable generation, potable water production, district cooling facilities, fuel procurement, logistics and wholesale trading activities.

Aspuru currently serves on the Heart of Florida United Way Board of Directors and is past Chair Person for Prospera USA (formerly the Hispanic Business Initiative fund of Florida).

Aspuru earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Central Florida and a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Northeastern University in Boston.

Jim Thompson, Executive Director for IHS Markit Coal and IHS Markit Coal Markets Expert, has analyzed and provided insight on coal markets for nearly three decades. He is lead commentator for the IHS Markit Coal & Energy daily newsletter and editor of US Coal Review. Thompson’s major area of expertise is the North American coal markets, though he is conversant on worldwide market trends.

Mr. Thompson’s expertise is both in thermal coal for electricity production and metallurgical coal for use in the steelmaking process. He is widely quoted in by major financial newspapers and speaks at multiple industry-related conferences. Thompson has performed coal market consultations both for coal producers and consumers as well as for financial analysts and investors. Thompson’s views on the coal markets are widely read throughout the world. Thompson came to IHS Markit as a part of its acquisition of Energy Publishing, of which he was a co-founder.

Mr. Thompson was educated at Dallas Baptist University.

Scott Teel is the vice president of commercial operations for Southern Company. He directs fuel services, fleet operations, and energy trading. Responsibilities under his oversight include fueling the Southern Company system generating fleet reliably and economically by procuring, transporting and managing fuels, optimizing commitment and dispatch of generating and market resources, and buying and selling electricity. He assumed this role in 2015.

Teel joined Southern Company in 1999 with responsibility for natural gas trading and operations. He later served as energy Trading Manager in fleet operations and trading before assuming the role of Assistant to the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Southern Company in 2005.

Teel served as the Vice President and CFO for Southern Company Operations in Birmingham from 2007 to 2010. In this role, he was responsible for Operations’ financial services, as well as wholesale generation and fleet operations and trading.

He joined Gulf Power in 2010 as CFO, where he was responsible for financial planning, budgeting, pricing and forecasting, as well as accounting. Before joining Southern Company, Teel held positions at Sonat and Ernst & Young.

Teel earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Alabama in 1992.

We believe Mr. Brock’s extensive knowledge of our industry and our operations gained during his years of service with CONSOL Energy in positions of increasing responsibility in its coal operations provides the company and Board of Directors with valuable experience.

Samuel J. Andrus, Executive Director, IHS Markit, is an authority on North American gas markets with operational and trading experience in natural gas and power markets. At IHS, he is responsible for the North American gas analytics practice, which covers modeling of natural gas supply, demand, storage, and price in support of short, intermediate and long term market outlooks. Sam has contributed to numerous shale related research projects such as America’s New Energy Future and Fueling the Future with Natural Gas. Besides his general focus on gas market fundamentals, Sam specializes in the operation and commerciality of interstate pipelines and underground storage as well as helping clients to understand the relationship between physical and financial natural gas markets relative to the development of natural gas contracting and hedging strategies.

Prior to joining IHS Markit, Mr. Andrus provided consulting services to the energy industry and helped start and manage several energy trading organizations, overseeing natural gas trading and risk management, including short-term and long-term hedging of gas production and fuel supply for full requirements power contracts, as well as participating in US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and Canada’s National Energy Board regulatory proceedings. Mr. Andrus began his career with ANR Pipeline Company where over a span of 19 years he held a range of technical and managerial positions in reservoir engineering, pipeline operations, facility planning, and business development. Mr. Andrus holds a BA in Chemistry from Adrian College, a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan, and an MBA from the University of Detroit.

Jim holds the position of Chief Commercial Officer for CONSOL Energy Inc., with responsibility for all of CONSOL’s coal sales.

His previous executive responsibilities included sales, marketing, supply chain management, land and operations.

Jim joined CONSOL in 1976 as a coal miner, and advanced progressively through operating and management positions at the Bailey and Enlow Fork mines, culminating in being promoted to Mine Superintendent at the Enlow Fork mine and subsequently at Mine 84.

Jim holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Business from the University of Pittsburgh Katz Business School. He has been named a distinguished alumnus of the University of Pittsburgh’s Swanson School of Engineering.

Jim currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Washington Health System Foundation, and is a member of the University of Pittsburgh’s Swanson School of Engineering Board of Visitors.

He and his wife Terry have three children.

Ted O’Brien joined Xcoal in 2017 with a role split between Capital Markets and Marketing, where he evaluates global investment opportunities in mines and infrastructure, and supports Xcoal’s core business of marketing coking coal and thermal coal to customers around the world. Prior to joining Xcoal, Ted spent 10 years at Doyle Trading Consultants, most recently as CEO, where he led the boutique coal consulting and analytics shop. Ted sits on the Board of Goehring & Rozencwajg Associates, a boutique investment management firm focused on the natural resource sector.

Ted is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University and is based in New York City.

A. Jerald Hylton is Director of Utility and Industrial Sales for Central Appalachian Coal Producer, Booth Energy Group. Hylton is responsible for sales, transportation and marketing of domestic and export thermal coals as well as domestic and export industrial and specialty coals produced from four mining complexes in three states.

Jerald is actively involved through membership in several industry organizations including the Lexington (KY) Coal Exchange where he is on the Executive Board of Directors and also Past President, Member and Past Board Member of The Coal Institute, and Member and Executive Board Member of the Peter’s Creek (WV) Coal Association.

Mandy Gunasekara joined the Environmental Protection Agency in March and is the Principal Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Office of Air and Radiation.

Previously, Mandy served as Majority Counsel for Chairman Inhofe during the 114th Congress and for Chairman Barrasso during the 115th Congress on the United States Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. She led committee actions and policy development on Clean Air Act and climate change issues.

From 2012 to 2014, Mandy worked as Senior Legislative Counsel for Congressman Bob Latta (Ohio-05) where she developed the Congressman’s legislative agenda on issues related to energy, environment, agriculture, immigration, labor, manufacturing and trade. She also led his committee agenda for the United States House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce.

Prior to joining Congressman Latta’s office, Mandy worked for Ranking Member Mike Enzi on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee. While there, she worked on labor, employment and disability issues. In addition, Mandy spent two summers as a law clerk for the United States House of Represen-tatives Committee on Energy and Commerce Office of General Counsel.

Bruce Rew is Vice President of Operations for Southwest Power Pool, Inc., located in Little Rock, Arkansas. He is responsible for SPP’s real-time reliability and market operations. These responsibilities include the Balancing Authority, day-ahead and real-time markets, operational planning, and analysis support of all reliability coordination, market operations, tariff administration and scheduling functions. He has been with SPP since 1990 in various engineering and management positions. Prior to SPP, Mr. Rew served in the United States Air Force on a nuclear missile launch crew.

Mr. Rew received a Bachelor of Science Degree in electrical engineering from Louisiana Tech University in 1990 and a Master of Science in operations management from the University of Arkansas in 1992. He is also a graduate of Harvard’s Business School’s Advanced Management Program. He serves on the Energy Systems Integration Group (ESIG) board, and the engineering advisory boards with the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and the University of Oklahoma.

David T. Lawson, Vice President Coal Marketing at Norfolk Southern, has diverse experience with the company, which operates approximately 20,000 route miles in 22 states and the District of Columbia.

Lawson joined NS in 1988. Prior to taking the responsibility for the railroad’s vital Coal business, he served as Vice President Industrial Products and President Modalgistics, Lawson has also held various positions in the NS Automotive Supply Chain Group.

NS moves both thermal and metallurgical coal from U.S. mines to domestic and international markets. Lawson has been in charge of the Coal Marketing group since July 2013.

Lawson graduated from Louisiana State University and earned an MBA from Wayne State University. He also completed the Advanced Management Pro-gram at the Harvard School of Business.

Mr. Schwartz is the President of the consulting firm of Energy Ventures Analysis, and was one of the founders of the firm in 1981. He and his firm specialize in analysis of the energy markets, including forecasts of supply, demand and prices.

Mr. Schwartz manages EVA’s coal consulting practice, working for investors, consumers and producers in the analysis of coal markets. EVA publishes regular reports on coal markets, including forecasts and current market data.

Mr. Schwartz consults on coal procurement activities and served as President of Centennial Resources, a medium-sized coal producer, during its bankruptcy restructuring.

He received a degree in Geological Engineering from Princeton University in 1977.
