POWER-TECH FORUM Detailed Agenda | Pre-summit Technology Day | Monday 3rd December

1 2 : 0 0 Exhibition Opening

1 3 : 0 0 Chairman’s Opening Address

EU Stability and Growth – The Strategy for RenewablesInv. Opening Keynote Speaker: Günther H. Oettinger, Commissioner for Energy, European Commission*

The Technologies that will Enable the Power Industry to Deliver Higher Energy Efficiency, TighterRegulations and Environmental Requirements

How Europe’s energy portfolio is being shaped according to CO2 emission reduction targets & the coming availability ofgame-changing technologies

Meeting the challenge of integrating more renewable energies into the power grid and into existing coal and gas plants The future role of CCGTs as backup facilities for renewables Technological and scientific facts versus economic trends & political pressures View into the future - the technologies that will enable stable networks enabling a balanced, efficient and environmentally

friendly power landscape

The 2020 Vision for Europe – Achieving Competitive, Sustainable and Secure Energy UtilisingAdvances in Smart Grid Technology & DeploymentAs utilities, equipment manufacturers etc try to integrate all the different pieces of the smart grid puzzle into a common architecture, the development of consensus concerning standards is lagging behind deployment

European Electricity Grid Initiative (EEGI) Roadmap- addresses the challenge of integrating new technologies under reallife working conditions and validating the results

Interoperability - Common technical standards that will connect the European grids Working towards consensus standards- what works and what doesn’t The way ahead - delivering the roadmap to fill the gaps Catching up with deployment – the co-ordination and acceleration of standards Developing the standards required for devices to be utility controlled

Recent Global Advances in Electricity Energy Storage (EES) The increasing potential for EES in enabling the storage of wind and solar generation from off-peak or shoulder hours to

on - peak periods is becoming a priority. Why improving grid reliability and stability and deferring new generation and transmission investments are becoming key

objectives for grid operators The most promising EES technologies and their potential application to reduce line congestions, providing frequency

regulation and managing the intermittency of renewables The latest cost-effective storage solutions and their capabilities
