HOLY FATHER’S PRAYER INTENTION FOR SEPTEMBER

The Protection of the Oceans That politicians, scientists and economists work together to protect the world’s seas and oceans.

FATHER LEDOUX’S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR SEPTEMBER

WORSHIP: As a community of faith, may we actively contemplate the Exaltation of the Holy Cross of Jesus Christ within the mystery of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, through the intercession of Our Lady of Sorrows.

FAITH FORMATION: At the start of this Catechism year we pray for the Parents and Youth of our Parish Faith Formation program. May this year be a fruitful one that binds parent and child closer to each other and to the Heart of Christ and His Church.

EVANGELIZATION: May the Holy Spirit begin to stir the hearts of those persons whom He seeks to find entrance into Full Communion with His Church through the RCIA program.

SOCIAL JUSTICE: Challenged by the threats against the innate value and dignity of the human person, may we strive to give witness to God’s presence through acts of faith, hope and love

BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES: May the Holy Spirit move our hearts to great trust and generosity in pledging and committing to our combined Parish and Diocesan Capital Campaign through prayer, time and finance.

FEAST OF OUR LADY OF SORROWS September 15th

The feast of Our Lady of Sorrows is dedicated to the spiritual martyrdom of Mary, Mother of God, and her compassion with the sufferings of her Divine Son, Jesus. In her suffering as co-redeemer, she reminds us of the tremendous evil of sin and shows us the way of true repentance. May the numerous tears of the

Mother of God be conducive to our salvation; with which tears Thou, O God, art able to wash away the sins of the whole world. As Mary stood at the foot of the Cross on which Jesus hung, the sword of sorrow Simeon had foretold pierced her soul. Below are the seven sorrows of Mary:

1) The prophecy of Simeon (Luke 2:25-35) 2) The flight into Egypt (Matthew 2:13-15) 3) Loss of the Child Jesus for three days (Luke 2:41-50) 4) Mary meets Jesus on His way to Calvary (Luke 23:27-31; John

19:17) 5) Crucifixion and Death of Jesus (John 19:25-30) 6) The body of Jesus being taken from the Cross (Psalm 130; Luke

23:50-54; John 19:31-37) 7) The burial of Jesus (Isaiah 53:8; Luke 23:50-56; John 19:38-42;

Mark 15:40-47)

PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF SORROWS: O Mary, Mother of Sorrows, I beseech Thee, by the bitter agony thou didst endure at the foot of the Cross, offer to the Eternal Father, in my name, thy Beloved Son, Jesus, all covered with Blood and Wounds, in satisfaction for my sins, for the needs of Holy Church, the conversion of sinners, the relief of the Souls in Purgatory and for the special grace I now implore. Mention your request. Amen.

PRAYER BEFORE A CRUCIFIX

Look down upon me, good and gentle Jesus, while before Thy face I humbly kneel, and with burning soul I pray and beseech Thee to fix deep in my heart lively sentiments of faith, hope and charity, true contrition

for my sins, and a firm purpose of amendment; while I contemplate with great love and tender pity Thy five wounds, pondering over them within me, having in mind the words which David Thy prophet said of Thee, my Jesus: "They have pierced my hands and my feet; they have numbered all my bones."

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be for the Holy Father's intentions

"A plenary indulgence is granted on each Friday of Lent and Passiontide to the faithful who, after Communion, piously recite the above prayer before an image of Christ crucified; on other days of the year the indulgence is partial." ~ Enchiridion of Indulgences, No. 22

DIVINE MERCY MESSAGE “JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU”

St. Faustina: “Most Holy Trinity, I trust in Your infinite mercy. God is my Father and so I, His child, have every claim to His divine Heart; and the greater the darkness, the more complete our trust should be.’” (Diary 357)

PRO-LIFE REFLECTIONS

And you yourself a sword will pierce. ~ Lk 2:35

REFLECTION: Today we honor Mary under the title of Our Lady of Sorrows. Mary’s heart was pierced with a sword many times, most notably at the foot of the Cross.

The Sorrowful Mother is also a symbol of the many mothers who feel they cannot continue their pregnancies, as well as those who have aborted a child. Mary intercedes for them today and so must we all.

PRAYER: Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us and for all mothers who bear pains of body and soul.

ALTAR SOCIETY DUES Altar Society dues ($1) will be collected under the portico at the front of the church before all weekend Masses on September 14/15, 21/22 & 28/29. You may also mail your dues to Melinda

Devillier, 104 Red Barn Dr., Carencro 70520. Dues and donations are used for purchasing altar linens. Thank you for your support!

PRAYER FOR SEPTEMBER: MONTH DEDICATED TO

OUR LADY OF SORROWS

MOTHER OF COMPASSION O Holy Virgin, in the midst of all your glory, we ask you not to forget the sorrows of this world. Cast a look of pity upon all who struggle against life’s difficulties, and

who cease not to feel all its bitterness. Have pity on all who have been separated from those they love. Have pity on the lonely and friendless. Pardon the weakness of our faith. Have pity on those whom we love. O Holy Mother, show a mother’s compassion toward the sorrowful and those who tremble under life’s afflictions. Give them hope and peace. Amen.

O Jesus, Eternal Priest, keep Thy servants within the shelter of Thy Sacred Heart, where none may harm them. Keep unstained their anointed hands, which daily touch Thy Sacred Body. Keep unsullied their lips, purpled with Thy Precious Blood. Keep pure and unearthly their hearts, sealed with the sublime mark of Thy glorious Priesthood. Let Thy holy love surround them and shield them from the world’s contagion. Bless their labors with abundant fruit and may the souls to whom they minster be here below their joy and consolation, and in Heaven their beautiful & everlasting crown. Amen.

O Lord Jesus Christ, great High Priest, I pray that You call many worthy souls to Your holy priesthood. Enlighten the Bishop and Vocation Director in the choice of candidates, the Spiritual Directors in molding them, and the professors in instructing them. Lead the seminarians daily in Your unerring footsteps, so that they may become priests who are models of purity, possessors of wisdom, and heroes of sacrifice. May they be steeped in humility and aflame with love for God and man, apostles of Your glory, and sanctifiers of souls. Mary, Queen of the Clergy, pray for us. Amen.

POST ABORTION HEALING:

RACHEL’S VINEYARD RETREAT A Rachel's Vineyard weekend retreat is an opportunity for any man, woman, couple, grandparent, sibling, or anyone who struggles with the emotional or spiritual pain of abortion. This weekend retreat provides participants the opportunity and space to enter the grieving process, identify effects the abortion has had and release deep feelings of anger, shame, and guilt that frequently accompany an abortion experience. This unique retreat process is designed specifically to help retreatants experience the gentleness, mercy and compassion of Jesus as they walk the journey from pain to forgiveness. Participants re-connect on a spiritual level with the children who have been aborted and give them honor and dignity through many special exercises as well as in a memorial service. Those who journey through their grief allow God to transform their experience into one that brings hope, liberation and peace. When: October 4-6, 2019 (Respect Life Weekend) Time: Friday, 6:00 p.m. - Sunday, 3:00 p.m. For more information and/or to register contact: Trista @ 337.261.5598. Pre-registration required. PARISH FINANCIAL STEWARDSHIP

In gratitude for our many gifts from God, parishioners and visitors made a joyful offertory to the Lord.

SEPTEMBER 8, 2019

OFFERING TOTAL $5,367.00 Building & Maintenance $189.00 St. Vincent de Paul $150.00 First Saturday Seminarian Support $125.02 On-Line Giving (9/2-9/8) $1,166.00

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

Among the primary themes in today’s Gospel when we hear Jesus’ well-known parable of the Prodigal Son is forgiveness and the need to repent. But from a stewardship point of view what is also interesting is one of the secondary themes: the failure to use responsibly the gifts that have been so generously bestowed. The youngest son who demanded his inheritance and left home broke no laws or religious commandments. His wrongdoing was that he wasted his inherited wealth, the abundant gifts given to him. His sin was in his extravagant living; squandering his gifts in pursuit of selfish pleasures. Good stewards acknowledge that everything they have comes from God, and they are required to cultivate these gifts responsibly. What are our God-given gifts? Do we use them responsibly? Do we exercise good stewardship over them?
