FROM THE DESK OF THE HEADTEACHER I like to read... I don’t know about you but I just don't get an awful lot of time to do so! I do though like a little bit of inspiration. Sometimes that comes through the autobiographies I read and sometimes through poetry. I came across a beautiful poem this week that I would like to share with you - a poem that inspires. It is on the other side of this week's newsletter. The poem is titled 'Thinking' and was written by Walter D. Wintle, an American poet in the early 20th century. The poem says a lot about character and that how you think directly impacts on how your character develops. Certainly here at Pardes, we teach the boys to believe in themselves and that whatever level they are at in whatever subject - קודשor חול, they can do it! I encourage you to read the poem with your children and discuss it with them. Next week is of course פוריםand I know our boys have a lot of fun to look forward to. The staff are also looking forward to the various activities in school in the run-up to next weekend. Good Shabbos! FROM THE DESK OF THE HEADTEACHER

I like to read... I don’t know about you but I just don't

get an awful lot of time to do so! I do though like a little

bit of inspiration. Sometimes that comes through the

autobiographies I read and sometimes through poetry. I

came across a beautiful poem this week that I would

like to share with you - a poem that inspires. It is on the

other side of this week's newsletter.

The poem is titled 'Thinking' and was written by

Walter D. Wintle, an American poet in the early 20th

century. The poem says a lot about character and that

how you think directly impacts on how your character

develops.

Certainly here at Pardes, we teach the boys to believe in

themselves and that whatever level they are at in

whatever subject - קודש or חול, they can do it! I

encourage you to read the poem with your children and

discuss it with them.

Next week is of course פורים and I know our boys

have a lot of fun to look forward to. The staff are also

looking forward to the various activities in school in the

run-up to next weekend.

Good Shabbos! Mr. Sager

Newsletter תלמוד תורה פרדס 3rd March 2017 – ה' אדר

PARDES HOUSE PRIMARY SCHOOL

דבר תורה - פ' תרומה

In this weeks סדרה the תורה teaches us about the כלי

. המשכן

one - ''הרוצה שיחכים ידרים'' teach us ב''ב דף כה in חז''ל הק'

who wants to become learned, should go the דרום side

where the מנורה was situated, which represented the תורה

however, someone who wanted wealth, should go to ,הק'

the northern side יצפין – because the שלחן which

represented material wealth, was in the דרום .

The כתב סופר asks בשם his father the חת''ס - why is the

מנורה before the סדרה taught in this weeks שלחן - surely

? precedes material wealth לימוד התורה

And he answers that just as משה רבינו benched זבולון

before יששכר, the 'תורה הקrespects and blesses those who

support תורה before benching יששכר - as it is they who

enable and empower others to learn תורה undisturbed, so

too the שלחן represents those who understand the

importance of supporting לומדי תורה .

The זצוק''לחפץ חיים explains that a person should aim to

be הולך אל דרום – walk towards the מנורה - and learn as

much as possible, however, one also needs to earn a פרנסה

- therefore, he may be סובב אל צפון - spend some time

occupied by the שלחן - earning an income, but sometimes

this overtakes his main aim in this world, and he is סובב

הולך הרוח until - סובב - he is נפטר having spent too much

time there, ועל סביבותיו and due to this waste of time - שב

עוה''ז he is forced to return to הרוח again!

One must be careful to utilise all his time correctly!

Thinking

Walter D. Wintle

If you think you are beaten, you are;

If you think you dare not, you don't.

If you'd like to win, but you think you can't,

It is almost a certain - you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you're lost;

For out in this world we find

Success begins with a fellow's will

It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you're outclassed, you are;

You've got to think high to rise.

You've got to be sure of yourself before

You can ever win the prize.

Life's battles don't always go

To the stronger or faster man;

But sooner or later the man who wins

Is the one who thinks he can!
