Today we welcome Mutford & Wrentham to the Victory Ground for our Suffolk FA Junior Cup quarter final fixture. They are having a tremendous season undefeated in the Lowestoft League. They have already knocked out Ran-somes and Stowupland Falcons from our league in earlier rounds so I’m sure we will be in for a tough game this afternoon. Today is also a special day for William Frost who will complete his 100th game for the First Team. Will is a great example of a player who has progressed through the club system having played a number of years for the Reserves before making the step up to the First Team. It means that eight of the First Team squad have played 100 games or more for the First Team, with over 50% having represented the Club at Youth level. There is a short article later in the programme regarding Wills achievement. It’s brilliant that all three adult teams in the Club have so many players that have come through the club from the Youth section. Youth Chairman Darren Brown has done a great job for the club with over 600 youngsters this year involved with the club, however whether you have played for the Youth or join the club later like Will there is a chance for you to progress into the First Team. I must just finish my notes by sending my thoughts and prayers to Josh Stannard and his family during this tough time. Josh who played for us was this week diagnosed with leukemia. I'm sure everyone at the Club who knows him would wish him a speedy recovery. I hope you enjoy this afternoons game. Next week we return to league action with a home fixture against Mendlesham when we will be back to a 2.30pm kick off.

Sporting 87 New Chairman Sporting 87 are delighted to bring some good news to you all. The search for a new chairman began at the end of last season, when Graeme Thomas declared that he felt his time as Chairman of Sporting 87 had come to an end after five years in the role. With the rate that the football club is growing and the exciting ambitions we have for the near future, we felt that the appoint-ment of a new chairman would be massively important to our development as a Club. We needed someone that would buy into the Clubs beliefs and what we’re trying to achieve, as well as having the experience and capabilities to take us to the next level. Dave Courteen is someone that we feel matches those criteria perfectly and is someone that we were eager to get involved in the Club. We approached him about the chairman’s role in No-vember. After some thought and a few follow up meetings Dave decided to accept the role. “I’m delighted to be joining Sporting 87 and been impressed with all that the club has achieved. I’m looking forward to working with Jon and the Committee to help drive the Club forward and achieve some of their new plans”. Dave is the founder and managing director of Mosaic Spa & Health Clubs, who currently have 30 health clubs and 18 spas across the UK – employing more than 450 staff. “Having set up the business straight out of college with just three staff, it has been a challenging and amazing journey over the last 30 years. In
that time I’ve pretty much been involved in every role, from working on the gym floor through to producing the ac-counts.” Dave’s wealth of experience in the sports business industry will no doubt be a huge benefit to Sporting. In addition to this, Dave fits into the clubs Christian beliefs. He attends The Forge Church in Debenham and is
involved with the serving team there. Director of Football Jon Warnock is delighted to have Dave on
board; “I am delighted that Dave has decided to be our new
Chairman and I look forward to working with him. As a club we
are enormously grateful to Graeme for the work that he has
done for the Club and I’m sure Dave will only build on his good
work.”

How I left the Wilderness After growing up in the jungles of Conga, Offrande Zan-Zala has plenty to thank God for – not least his status as a professional footballer with Derby County. Conflicts in Congo left Zan-Zala and his family homeless and living in the wilderness. He said “We knew there was a god and he was watching over us whilst we were in Congo and Austria through to the UK. “When we moved to Nottingham we attended a church and I gave my life to Christ , which was when I was 12. “Our whole family are Christians and I now put Christ at the center of my life. I am so thankful for what God has done to get me where I am today. One thing I always say to myself is that there's lots of people who want to be a footballer.
“Not many make it, but its so im-portant to keep the faith, not only in my ability but with God too. Its vital to keep God at the center and remain on fire for him. Praise Its important that even when things are going well, to give God the glory and the praise and when things aren't going well, to ask him for his help and provisions. I want to use what God has given me for his glory. For Zanzala faith remains at the core of all he does, especially before a game, where he spends time with God before crossing the whitewash. He added “Before games I will pray. I always take my Bible wherever I go. I love to read the Word of God, listen to some music and just be in his presence for me. I think its more important to be ready spiritually, opposed to physi-cally. “I pray for my team mates and the fans, then we can enjoy the game and
play to the best of our ability.”

A Team Notes
Will Frost A Team Manager
Only two games since Christmas for the A team un-fortunately they haven’t been the results we are looking for or would have hoped. Firstly we played against Halesworth Town Res who I am surprised aren’t higher up in the league. We started the game excellently moving the ball around well, getting in behind their back 4 and creat-ing chances. We took an early lead through Liam Orchard on the end of a Jordan Chaplin long throw we then doubled are lead with top scorer Rob Pettitt scoring at the far post. Then the second half was 45 minutes to forget, with them scoring just before half time, was always going to galvanise them and we just weren’t at it and made a few costly mistakes and lost the game 3-2. We then had a very tough game vs top of division 3 Bedricks Worth who had won 14/15 games on the bounce. We didn’t start the game well, conceding in the first minute, however in spells I thought we played really well, just lacking a bit of confidence in the final third. At this level of football though you do have to hold
your hands up and accept that you are playing
against a very good team and all the best to them in
the semi final.
William Frost joins the 100 Club
Today is William Frosts 100th game for the First
team. Will joined the club from AFC Hoxne in 2011
and made his First team debut 29th August 2015
against Ipswich Athletic after making 86 ap-
pearances for the Reserves. The team that
day was Ashley Brown, Alan Everett, Nick
Drewry, Will Frost, Kevin Firman, Ben Ryan,
Elliott Chaplin, Benny Mansfield, Ivan Holden,
Jack Edwards with Sam Fenning and Mike
Ginn being the subs. The team lost 3-0.
Hello and welcome to the VSG. As you read today’s notes you are probably already aware of the recent news of the passing into Glory of our friend and supporter Frances Johnson. Frances had fought a long battle with illness and died at home last week. On thinking about Frances, the phrase that comes to mind is ‘quietly supportive’. She always appeared to me to be someone who was happy to not ‘self-promote’, but to be supportive of those around, help-ing them in the things in which they were involved. Whether that be her family, the Christmas Shoebox Appeal, at her church, or on a Saturday afternoon at the VSG. Earlier in the year it was lovely to be able to share a table with Frances and Nigel at the last Adult Awards. Frances will be sadly missed by all her family, friends, and those of us who knew her and were blessed by her at Sporting. At the same time, we also know that she is now free from illness and with her Saviour. Our thoughts and prayers remain with Nigel, Luke, Bryony and Suzanne.
