Students will . . . be tested on multiplication facts

complete standard of 15 Accelerated Math objectives per 6 weeks
receive & be expected to complete homework on a weekly basis

STAAR SCIENCE (5TH GRADE)
WRITING – MS. WILKINS
IN WRITING CLASS, WE LEARN HOW TO independently plan, revise, and edit
written responses write perfect simple, compound, and
complex sentences express ourselves in creative,
persuasive, narrative, and expository writing
use correct spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and word choice
STAAR WRITING TEST
2 days long (4 hours each day) approximately 30 multiple-choice questions
revising skills – sentence structure and coherence editing skills – spelling, punctuation, and word
choice 2 compositions
narrative – a realistic, personal life experience expository – explains student’s opinion/knowledge
about a topic

A passing paper (2) must be the appropriate
genre, be in legible English, have a clearly-stated
topic sentence, stay on topic, and be written clearly

TO SCORE A 3 OR 4, THE COMPOSITION MUST
WHEN MY CHILD WRITES, HE/SHE MUST
have better written expression (word choice, transitions, organization, details, descriptive language, etc),
have better mastery of grammar and mechanics (spelling, punctuation, and capitalization), and
have a conclusion that expresses the value of the topic.
